New isolation rules, am I right ?

Dd18 has this morning tested positive on a LFT, am I right in thinking she does not need a PCR?

Also is it correct it's 7 days isolation including today and on days 6 &7 ( Monday &Tuesdays) she needs to retest and get a negative one both to be able to leave the house and return to work on Wednesday?

Does she have symptoms or is this an asymptomatic infection.

The rules are

Lateral flow tests are taken by people who do not have COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone who develops 1 of the 3 main COVID-19 symptoms should stay at home and self-isolate and take a PCR test. They must self-isolate if they get a positive test result, even if they have had a recent negative lateral flow test – these rules have not changed.

WreckTangled · 12/01/2022 16:30

Today is day 0 and tomorrow is day 1 (assuming today is the first day she has either tested positive or had symptoms).

As pp says if she's symptomatic she needs a PCR still.

lazylockdowner · 12/01/2022 16:33

Ahhh ok she feels a little tired and slight blocked nose but no huge symptoms or feeling unwell

Check the gov.uk website as far as I can see it doesn’t matter if you have symptoms or not. A positive lateral flow is enough

dementedpixie · 12/01/2022 16:44

Day of the test is day 0 so day 6 and 7 are Tuesday and Wednesday. She would need a negative test on both those days to be released from isolation early

LethargicActress · 12/01/2022 16:46

My understanding is the same as yours. And then even if she does test positive on day 6 and 7, she can be out and about again on day 10 next Saturday.

dementedpixie · 12/01/2022 16:48

No, her 10 days would finish midnight Saturday so free on Sunday.

musicalfrog · 12/01/2022 16:49

You can also test on days 8 and 9 to get out sooner if testing negative.

Rosie the bit in bold is the Gov Website - but it is strongly on the 3 main symptoms!

Do log it though as a positive test

Lougle · 12/01/2022 16:53

Yes, she's on day 0 now. Day 6 is the 18th and Day 7 is the 19th. If she tests negative on both those days (with the tests being at least 24 hours apart) then she can leave isolation. Otherwise, she can leave isolation on day 10 at midnight, which is the 22nd, so realistically the 23rd is her first day time freedom.

gogohm · 12/01/2022 16:53

@Quartz2208 rules changed this week.

She needs to register her positive lft on the government website, today is day 0, on day 6 Tuesday and day 7 Wednesday she needs to take a lft, if north negative she can go back to work unless her employer has different arrangements

Quartz2208 · 12/01/2022 17:04

Yes I know the rules are here

www.gov.uk/government/news/confirmatory-pcr-tests-to-be-temporarily-suspended-for-positive-lateral-flow-test-results

It also says track and trace will be in contact after the LFT is logged as well

tigger1001 · 12/01/2022 17:04

I'm in Scotland so maybe slightly different, but once you register the positive lft they tell you the isolation dates (or at least when day 10 is) so you can work it out from there. From my recent positive lft they counted the test date as day 1 which was different from when my son tested positive last year.

And whilst it is technically correct that people with symptoms are supposed to do a pcr, I honestly don't see the point if there is a positive lft. I haven't done one after my positive lft. I recorded the results and have isolated accordingly. What difference will a follow up pcr make?

Quartz2208 · 12/01/2022 17:33

I think if you have the main symptoms you arent suppose to LFT but PCR test because then there is no chance of a false negative and missing a case rather than there being a problem if it is just a LFT that you add to the numbers (if that makes sense).

aLittleL1fe · 12/01/2022 22:41

My understanding is the same as yours @lazylockdowner (what a username Grin ), PCR is no longer needed to confirm a positive LFT.

JanglyBeads · 12/01/2022 23:12

@tigger1001 it means a swab can go for genetic testing? But only if sampled/chosen

aLittleL1fe · 12/01/2022 23:35

@tigger1001 PCR result was needed as evidence for time off work etc, but this has changed a couple of days ago and a positive LFT is sufficient.

sleepwouldbenice · 13/01/2022 00:21

@musicalfrog

You can also test on days 8 and 9 to get out sooner if testing negative.

I have been wondering a lot about this. I have seen several commas ( eg my work and from my kids school) saying that it's either day6 and 7 or wait until day 10 but surely that's not logical? Where have you seen the testing reference re 8 and 9 ( and I assume 7 and 8?) please?

I am sure it's quite important to those who need paying for work and employers to keep services moving!

User6397254 · 13/01/2022 02:59

That doesn't sound like the 3 main symptoms so no PCR needed
RoseAndRose · 13/01/2022 06:08

12/01 is day zero.

So she would test to release on Tues 18 and Wed 19, and if negative for both return to work on Thurs 19 (it's release after 7 days, not on the seventh day).

If she doesn't get two consecutive daily negative tests, but remains symptom free, then her tenth snd last day in isolation is Sat 22, and first day out is Sun 23

musicalfrog · 13/01/2022 06:34

@sleepwouldbenice I just took that as a given, I thought it was worded 'from day 6 and 7' however even if it's not I would work on that premise. Why wouldn't it be?

User6397254 · 13/01/2022 06:47

Actually you can end your isolation after your negative test on day 7 you don't have to wait until next day so on the 7th day after testing so best to do in the morning for an early get out, it's in the government rules. For day 10 it is the next day
