Here we go again….menstrual cycle disruption after booster!

Had booster in early dec. Period was due 2 days after, which came as usual.

This month, I had the usual cramps and PMT on cycle day 26/27. Then…..nothing. I’m now on cycle day 33 and no sign. I feel uncomfortable but there is no sign of anything starting. This happened after my second jab too when I ended up with almost a 40 day cycle when I am usually 28 days like clockwork.

So. Fed. Up.

Why are people / health authorities pretending this doesn’t happen???

My periods were delayed after both AZ1 and my Moderna booster.

The AZ1 was concerning as I had a much-delayed smear test booked which should have been fine based on my regular predicted dates. It did just clear in time but it was a concern and potentially inconvient especially as there were particular arrangements in place.

I suspect that thanks to December's booster and getting Covid within 19 days, I'm in for my second disrupted menstral cycle in a row. December's didn't have significant external consequences, just an annoying prolonged PMT phase. This month the PMT phase is also presenting differently hence expecting further disruption.

Hormones can have a significant effect on how women feel and their performance. Where possible I try to avoid certain things on certain days when I'm likely to be sluggish, lethargic and irritable. In professional sportswomen there is begining to be research on how to optimise training around hormonal changes to play to changing strengths in speed and stamina.

Then there's the importance of understanding the cycle in puberty, TTC and menopause. I'm fortunate to be of an age where these aren't relevant. I can understand how hesitancy is triggered for girls/ women of these life stages. Then there's the whole debacle of changing advice and effective communications regarding vaccines in pregnancy...

It does matter for many reasons and women deserve appropriate recognition and research.

I am not going to do the booster now just to be safe. I am doing an IVF cycle atm so I am not going to risk it for the jab. I am just being extra careful and social distancing.

I had my booster on 18th December (the week my period was due) and still haven't had one. Im grateful I got it as I caught covid and its been fairly mild but its very strange. Doctors don't seem interested

I know that a menopause charity had had lots of women contact them about suddenly bleeding again after a few years of meno following jabs and they were encouraging women to yellow card it.

Not AZ for me but moderna has. Two weeks late. I started hrt in nov too though so I don't think my body knows what's what highly annoying as I'm following a 28 day cycle with the hrt so am all wonky.

DinoDora · 23/01/2022 17:43

AZ I feel worsened peri symptoms. It's what led to hrt.

I had my booster in November and my period came a day or two after that as scheduled.

My period came as predicted in December.

I went through a lot of stress Christmas week. There was a bad moody bitch on my back and I felt stress all over me. I suspected my January period would be late due to stress and perhaps a delay in ovulation from stress. I knew I was going to have a late one.

My cycle is usually 28 to 30 days. The cycle from December was 40 days. I wasn't expecting it to be so long. It eventually came on Friday and it's a heavy bleed. I'm not usually this heavy.

Many of the vaccine side effects are due to whats known as the nocebo effect. As in they are caused by our expectation of it rather than the vaccine itself. It's a well documented phenomenon.

DinoDora · 23/01/2022 18:50

No it's starting to show a pattern.

However, other vaccines have been shown to throw menstrual cycles off eg flu jab, as do bad infections. And Covid is documented as doing so.

We just don't have so many all being vaccinated at the same time with a new jab.

Woman's hour covered it in the summer and had some expert explaining.
