Child age 2 positive day 2 high temp eating less drinking he had a temp of 39 only two hours after calpol I woke him up and gave him nurophen it's slowly bringing it down.

Why has the calpol not brang it down ?

Anyone else had a poorly 2 year old or young one who has been poorly on day 2

I'd call 111 if my 2 year old had a temperature of 39 2 hrs after calpol, and get some advice. Doesn't hurt to check and that sounds a very high temperature to me.

NotAllItsCrackedUpToBe · 11/01/2022 22:18

Or follow the questions through on here: 111.nhs.uk/
Hope your little one feels better soon.

YesIcan3 · 11/01/2022 22:21

My 3 year old temp was bad for about 2 days he was being sick a lot too! Slept constantly he's now on day 4 and perked up a lot today. Not much of a appetite had a little toast, upset tummy too! Hope your little one starts to feel better soon.

stressedaboutcovid · 11/01/2022 22:30

@YesIcan3 sorry your little one is
Poorly my sons temp is now in the normal
Range I did call a doctor and they wasn't concerned as he was drinking and eating just told me to alternate calpol and nurophen.

Concerned but his temp is now in the normal range I did contact the doctors and because he's eating and drinking they was not concerned they told me to let him sleep and eat and drink what he wants

My kids tend to run high temps. They’ve needed Nurofen after Calpol a good few times.
I hope he’s feeling better soon and you’re able to get some rest too.

Purplewithred · 11/01/2022 22:44

www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng143/chapter/Recommendations#advice-for-home-care NICE guidance is only to give paracetamol/ibuprofen if your child is distressed, not just to bring down their temperature.

stressedaboutcovid · 11/01/2022 23:02

Dose anyone no if i can give more nurophen at 4 hours or is it 6 hours the bottle says doses should be given every 6-8 hours but then it says leave atleast 4 hours between doses ? Am
I being thick ? So is it 4 or 6 ?

@stressedaboutcovid good news the temp has come down. My child also had a very high temp at first although he is older, but then he got a lot better after the first 24 hours.
Not sure on the ibuprofen - I'd stick to every 6 hours to be on the safe side and better after food too.

victoriavictoria22 · 12/01/2022 00:07

Hi OP I'm not sure about the ibuprofen but please do call 111 and they will definitely be able to advise you.

I am praying your DC is better soon.

liveforsummer · 12/01/2022 02:22

6 hours for nurofen 4 for calpol

ToManySnacks · 12/01/2022 02:40

6 hours Nurofen
4 hours calpol

But remember if you give through the night you cant give all day too as you must stick to the maximum amount allowed in 24 hours

stressedaboutcovid · 12/01/2022 03:31

@ToManySnacks thank u he had his last calpol at 10.45pm and nurophen was two hours before that. So can I give tomorrow when he wakes up?

OP posts:
ToManySnacks · 12/01/2022 03:41

You have to calculate from when you started Calpol / nurofen and then within the next 24 hours dont exceed the dose for each one

@stressedaboutcovid

ToManySnacks · 12/01/2022 03:42

Watch for how much he is weeing
If reduced talk to GP / 111
If he stops weeing then its A&E

Mindymomo · 12/01/2022 07:01

With my DS calpol never really helped with temperature, so he would have Nurofen. Keep a note of what time you give medicine, then you will know what you’ve given.

stressedaboutcovid · 12/01/2022 08:12

He's awake now temp 38.4 😢 but playing with his toys have given him more meds waiting on doctors to call back again. I want them to see him. Just to make sure there's no ear infection or throat! Bet my doctors will love me keep calling them (joke)

OP posts:
Bobholll · 12/01/2022 10:27

Your docs probably won’t see him if he has covid. Covid causes a fever, there is no need to check him for anything else at this stage unless he’s complaining of a sore ear etc 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t know what you are panicking about? It’s not nice when they have a fever but it’s also a good sign their body is fighting the infection. Keep him hydrated & ride it out.

Bobholll · 12/01/2022 10:29

Also, in your other thread you’ve said you’ve got covid and your entire family. Your GP isn’t going to happily see you!

Calm down & stop panicking. It’s OK to be ill. Covid is a mild illness in 99% of cases, in particular children. You need to put your big girl pants on & get through this like you would a nasty stomach bug that goes round the family! You got this.

ForTheLoversOutThere · 12/01/2022 15:13

So you have Covid?
You failed to mention that in your post
You can not take him to the doctors without them doing that you are positive
Have you tested him?

stressedaboutcovid · 12/01/2022 15:25

@ForTheLoversOutThere I only tested positive this morning I was negative last night

OP posts:
stressedaboutcovid · 12/01/2022 15:26

@Bobholll thank u I needed that I dunno why I'm worrying so much! My uncle
Passed away from covid and it's just scared me . Plus seeing your kids I'll really make u panic he is complaining of a bad ear and doctors are seeing him later at the hot hub
