As title states, anyone had a covid booster or vaccine and caught covid in the first week?
Where there any complications or adverse effects?

yes although this is not first hand, but coming from a work colleague I share an office with. Both him and his DW got boosted the week before schools finished and his DW came down with a very bad case of covid during Christmas, nearly ended up in hospital. He was fine as he had covid during the Oct half term.

Yes I did, booster on a Thursday and positive by Sunday. Had mild symptoms, hard to tell if booster helped or not, probably was too soon for it to. Had a couple of days of a sore throat and bit of a headache. Had much worse colds.

FindingMeno · 09/01/2022 18:26

Dc2 did but had a mild illness.

lightand · 09/01/2022 18:29

I know someone who, 3 hours after having the booster, realised she already had covid. But not sure that is of any use to you or not? Difficult to tell if things went the same way they would have done or not.

DaisyWaldron · 09/01/2022 18:30

I know several people who this has happened to, which isn't really surprising as vaccine availability has tended to increase during periods where Covid levels are high, and also because actually getting vaccinated can mean taking greater risks than some people would normally take. DD was on the bus next to a family with no masks who were coughing, sneezing and sniffling/blowing their noses for the whole journey on her way to the vaccine centre.

BrilloSolar · 09/01/2022 18:31

How would anyone know if their experience would have been different if they hadn't just had the booster?

Very similar situation. Was she ok? Hope she was.

I had my booster 13 days before testing positive, (so not exactly what you were asking) DD (15) had her 2nd jab the day before she tested positive. We've both had cold symptoms and felt rubbish for a few days but nothing serious.

VanCleefArpels · 09/01/2022 18:36

DS (adult) became symptomatic 2 days after booster so prob infected at the time of the jab. He was very ill. No way of knowing what the situation may have been otherwise and probably pointless speculating

Thanks for sharing and I’m so glad you and your DD had mild symptoms and nothing serious

If you don’t mind me asking…When you say he was very ill, do you mean severe covid symptoms or needed hospitalisation?

Yes, had booster on the Thursday, tested positive following Wednesday. No adverse effects

Jenjen21 · 09/01/2022 18:54

Tested positive 3 days after booster.. Felt crap for 14 days but nothing bad happened from getting booster while incubating the virus x

Mol1628 · 09/01/2022 18:55

Yes. Booster on Monday then contact on Saturday, symptoms Tuesday. I was fine. Very mild really.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 09/01/2022 19:02

I know someone who tested positive within a few days of getting the booster. I don't know if he had it when he was boosted or got it vry soon after. He was fine but as we know everyone's experience can be different.

Freedom22 · 09/01/2022 19:02

I tested positive for covid exactly two weeks after booster. Very mild symptoms so far. Had a horrible taste in my mouth and feel cold, a bit like a have a head cold at times but that isn’t constant

2boysand1princess · 09/01/2022 20:21

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me. I feel less doom and gloom now Flowers

DC2 had positive PCR 9 days after 1st jab. Negative lateral flows throughout and zero symptoms, couldn’t have got off more lightly! DB who is medic said that their immune system must have been as primed as possible and batted it straight off!

Budapestdreams · 09/01/2022 20:28

I got Covid just after the booster. Wasn't too ill for the first week but developed long Covid symptoms and often wondered if having the booster made things better, worse or no different. I feel reassured that lots of people have been fine, so it is probably just coincidence.

superram · 09/01/2022 20:33

I tested positive 9 days after booster, virtually no symptoms. I booster Ed husband was really quite poorly-just flu symptoms but knocked for 6. I just drank wine for a week through boredom….

superram · 09/01/2022 20:34

Non-boostered dh!

@CurtainTroubles

People still aren’t getting their heads around how vaccines work are they?

As has been widely publicised, the booster reaches maximum effectiveness after 2 weeks. So if you contracted covid a few days later it’s not surprising given that you were not as protected as you could have been.

Also, no vaccines are 100% effective. You could have all three vaccines and still catch covid. Given that this is a pandemic and over 100,000 people per day (that we know of) are catching it and vaccine rates are generally high, there’s a very high chance that vaccinated people are still catching it. That’s just probability.

I think most people know this. My question was more about whether having the booster and covid within the same time frame leads to any adverse effects. When you go for the vaccines they ask if you have had Covid-19 symptoms or tested positive on a pcr within the last 28 days. Some of us have had boosters and caught covid at the same/similar time.
