How quickly does a Ltf change from positive to negative

DamnitImTired · 09/01/2022 07:02

Obviously I’m positive and desperately waiting to be negative on a LFT. So if I test today and it’s positive, will it miraculously be negative tomorrow on day8 for example?

Does the line get lighter?

I know the recommendation is every two days but like watching a pregnancy test in the two week wait common sense and rules don’t always prevail.

Any experience?

Mine got lighter. Day 6 2 strong lines, day 7 one strong line one about half the strength and day 8 only one line.

Summerofcontent · 09/01/2022 07:34

Mine is getting lighter. Day 9 but still positive 😓

Bagelsandbrie · 09/01/2022 08:06

Dh is on day 9 and still getting a strong positive.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/01/2022 08:08

DH tested yesterday (day 7) and was still quite a strong positive but was negative this morning.

DamnitImTired · 09/01/2022 08:10

@CeeceeBloomingdale

Thanks. And does he have symptoms?
I’ve got a lingering cough and congestion. I can’t see symptoms disappearing overnight but hoping like mad that the line will.

There's no recommendation to test once you are positive, assuming your are in England. Why are you wasting tests?

Follow the rules

?? Presumably the OP is following the rules by testing from day 6 of a positive test?

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

Because I’m not in the UK. But thanks for the valuable post.

@treeflowercat I’m not in the UK but valid point!

Also if you have a box of 7 tests are they not mine to use?

I was still positive on day 6 but negative for day 7 & 8. DS was still positive with a strong line on day 7 so I didn’t bother testing him further as he hated it, he completed the full isolation.

This is completely wrong. The recommendation is to do LFT from day 6. If you get two days of negatives you can end isolation on day 7.

Dh needs to test negative to be able to return to work earlier than the 10 days. Not everyone is “wasting tests”.
cliffdiver · 09/01/2022 08:31

I had strong positives on day 6 and 7.

Weak positive on day 8.

Negative on day 9.

About to do day 10, which will hopefully be negative.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/01/2022 08:42

He has a slight cough but then did before covid too

Bluntness100 · 09/01/2022 09:00

I’m wondering this too op, I’m still positive, but I didn’t test positive till five days ago, as that’s when I tested, however I will have caught it New Year’s Eve or day as had symptoms on the first/second. So I was hoping to be negative by today as it will be earliest day eight for me.

Smashedavacado · 09/01/2022 09:04

DS had positive lateral flow & PCR last Sunday. Negative on Thursday. He has had no symptoms though.

LethargeMarg · 09/01/2022 09:12

My day 8 was a faint positive
Annoyingly day 9 was a strong positive
Then negative day 10
It was a different brand day 9 (flow flex) and first thing in morning when I was more congested - don't know if that affected it ?!?

DamnitImTired · 09/01/2022 09:15

@Bluntness100 our timing is exactly the same.

I actually thought I had it just after Xmas as I had such an upset tummy and muscle aches but I was on holiday in a remote place with no access to tests. Tested on the 4th when I returned home and developed more common runny nose sore throat symptoms and was positive. Was hoping I was at the end of the 10 days but it appears not.

DH and my 2 boys took over 10 days to test negative (they still had symptoms though).

Checkthemeaning · 09/01/2022 09:40

My PCR was positive on Monday and I started testing negative on an LFT from Friday. A definite negative, not a faint line or anything. Day 1 was last Saturday (first day of symptoms) and Day 7 was yesterday.

I know you are not in the UK.
Those who are in the UK can only stop isolation on day 7 if they test negative and have no symptoms.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/01/2022 17:01

I had a light line yesterday and no line today, day 6, so if I get another negative test tomorrow does that mean I'm good to go then, or wait till the end of day 7 and free on Tuesday?

pollyparrot45 · 09/01/2022 17:07

Mine gradually faded out and so did DS'

Neither of ours were negative until after the 10 days. Day 12 for me and not sure for DS as I didn't test him again. Was v v faint day 9 & 10 for him.

SmallestInTheClass · 09/01/2022 17:30

Mine got lighter from bright red as soon as the liquid passed the line on day 6 to faint by day 9 and gone by day 11. My DD had one negative on day 7 then faint positive day 8. No one I know who has had symptoms has got a negative before day 9.
