Bloody hell Cyprus entry requirements

Probably strictest I've seen/know of ??
Pcr before depart, pcr at destination airport on arrival (regardless of vaccination status) and also lateral flow while there. Lateral flow first two days of holiday, third day go to an official place for lateral flow and then lateral flow yourself for another three days.
I hope it changes before may Shock

Good for them. I’d rather have a thorough system like that than the absolute joke of a system we have here.

billycorn · 07/01/2022 21:57

Some long haul destinations are stringent like this. Lots of counties are doing fit to fly PCR’s and another immediately on landing. I’d worry about the constant lateral flows. I’m sure by may things will be easier.

janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 22:02

Don't get me wrong I don't mind doing them if we have too, but obviously it's a worry about actually testing postive

I have residency in Cyprus. My DC are there at the moment and I am am currently separated from them. I've cancelled several trips over because the restrictions are ridiculous. My 7 year old DD is having to wear a mask at school, soon you will need 3 vaccinations just to go to the supermarket, and everyone needs 2 PCR tests per week.

Also under the current restrictions, if you test positive and are transfered to a government facility you could be sharing with strangers and hotels are serving sub standard food to the rooms until you get a negative test.

Thankfully I will see my DC soon I have managed to get my ex to agree to bring them over but the idea of going over there right now fills me with dread. I have had to put my trip off until April but if I'm offered a refund I will be taking it. IMHO I don't agree at all with how they've handled the pandemic and I feel better here than I did there. Right now it's not the place for a relaxing holiday.

janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 22:30

@mrsnec oh no that sounds horrible and has quite honestly worried me !!
What do you think the chances are of the restrictions changing ?
What happens if someone on your plane over tests postive ?

OP posts:
MaxNormal · 07/01/2022 22:34

They'll lose a lot of tourist trade to other destinations this summer, I would imagine. Still, their choice and all that.

mrsnec · 07/01/2022 22:47

As it stands at the moment as I understand it, if you test positive when you land or while you are there you are transferred to a government facility and then have to pay for your flights back after a negative test.

I keep an eye on the forums and there were people who had booked an all inclusive holiday, weren't allowed in the restaurant until they tested negative, didn't get they're results from the government tests until day 5, then tested positive, shared a room in quarantine Hotel with strangers than had to pay a fortune for flights home.

Not worth the stress or risk.

mrsnec · 07/01/2022 22:49

I have no idea what the chances are of things changing. I think they need a couple of weeks of kids being back and they don't go back until Monday. They extended the holidays.

janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 22:54

@mrsnec bloody hell, that's so worrying. What if someone in your plane tests postive, do you know what happens in that scenario while you're waiting for your result, do you isolate at your hotel ?

What do you think happens everywhere else? You test positive, you isolate. Mostly in government hotels at your own expense, unless you buy decent insurance. Most ones don’t have outside space:

janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 22:55

@MaxNormal I agree. Surely they'll have to loosen them up for the summer season it doesn't seem realistic by that point for tourism to continue as normal

OP posts:
janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 22:57

@BluebellsGreenbells when we went to Spain in the summer we didn't have to do a pcr to get into the country, just a lft to come home, which luckily was negative. We'd already had our holiday by that point. Obviously it was still a worry

MyFieldOfFucksIsBarren · 07/01/2022 22:58

The restrictions have only just changed for pcr test before flight regardless of vaccination, the test at the airport is really not much of an inconvenience, the 5 day lateral flow is fairly new. It will almost certainly be relaxed before summer.

mrsnec · 07/01/2022 23:01

It's the day 3 extra tests, the LFTs in between and the vaccine passports absolutely everywhere that make it different from other places.

My 7 year old Dd got turned away from her favourite toy shop the other day (MIL doesn't have a smartphone)because she didn't have a vaccine passport but they let in 6 year old DS. It's petty, but it broke my heart!

janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 23:06

Are they vaccinating the young kids over there then too ? It is a shame because they don't understand it properly do they

Yes I'm hoping so, if push comes to shove we'll have to do it because we want the holiday and absolutely love Cyprus but I mean it is very strict.

Chloemol · 07/01/2022 23:09

Good
The fact we now don’t need PCR before travelling to the UK if vaccinated , just relay on a LFT on day two which is never going to happen makes us a joke
I look forward to fa4 mor3 cases and easy entry for new variants

Really?! Do you think all this is absolutely needed?! Covid is rampant in the majority of the world regardless of the individual countries' testing systems.

This doesn't sound anything like a holiday. You might as well move into a hospital ward for two weeks instead.

roses2 · 07/01/2022 23:12

@janicewheeler

Yes they are and insisting on negative tests 2x per work or no school allowed for age 6+. Soon I wont be supposed if they start they'll be forcing vaccinations on age 6+ or they won't be allowed school. They've taken restrictions far further than they need to and its going to cause them a lot of damage in the long run.
mrsnec · 07/01/2022 23:12

They want to vaccinate young kids. The only reason mine haven't been done yet is because they don't have supplies but it's getting impossible to go anywhere without it. I'm just hoping I can get them over soon.

Remember Cyprus follows closely the rest of Europe and also has strong links with Israel so they'll be influenced by that in terms of how they deal with the pandemic.

janicewheeler · 07/01/2022 23:16

Jesus, didn't realise it's so strict over there. We've only put a deposit down atm, got til March to pay it off so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for restrictions easing off. Worrying they'll want 6+ vaccinated for travel there aswell soon!! Then we definitely won't be going
Got to say it's abit much, it's bloody everywhere we've got to start living with it at some point. I know others don't agree but that's my opinion on it.

OP posts:
mrsnec · 07/01/2022 23:22

I lived there for 10 years. I've been back in the UK since September. I feel a sense of freedom in comparison to what it was like there in the height of the pandemic. I get angry when I hear people disagree with the way the current government in the UK is acting at present when you compare the UK to places like Cyprus.

On the other hand, they do treat tourists very differently from residents so that may make a difference to some but it's certainly spoilt the place for me.

Blinky21 · 07/01/2022 23:24

Mauritius is the same, which is why they have barely any covid cases

Fallagain · 07/01/2022 23:29

From what age? We have our pre pandemic holiday from 2 years ago there in May and I don’t want to put the kids through that level of testing.

Lindy2 · 07/01/2022 23:30

For the last couple of weeks or so Cyprus has been reporting daily new cases of above 5000. It might not sound a lot initially but the population is only 1.2 million. In UK terms that would be about 325,000 cases a day.

Omicron has clearly well and truly taken hold despite the restrictions.
