Bloody hell Cyprus entry requirements

Probably strictest I've seen/know of ??
Pcr before depart, pcr at destination airport on arrival (regardless of vaccination status) and also lateral flow while there. Lateral flow first two days of holiday, third day go to an official place for lateral flow and then lateral flow yourself for another three days.
I hope it changes before may Shock

@Fallagain

From what age? We have our pre pandemic holiday from 2 years ago there in May and I don’t want to put the kids through that level of testing.
Atm under 12's are exempt

@janicewheeler

Are they vaccinating the young kids over there then too ? It is a shame because they don't understand it properly do they
What a stupid assumption. You think they don’t understand why exactly? Every country can do as they please and what is right for their population. You are arrogant
Fallagain · 08/01/2022 00:14

@curlymom I’m assuming @janicewheeler is referring to young children although even so my 5 year old understand vaccination expose your white bloods cells to a small bit of the virus so they learn how to fight it if they are exposed to it fully in real life. While my 2 year old is being vaccinated tomorrow (chicken pox) she doesn’t understand it obviously but it’s in her best interests.

FromEden · 08/01/2022 00:17

Cyprus has one of the highest case rates in the world. Clearly, these restrictions are working

curlymom · 08/01/2022 00:25

Oh I see I think you are right apologies @janicewheeler.
Good luck with tomorrow fallagain

The fear of testing positive whilst on holiday, has prevented me from holidays abroad since start of pandemic. I know I would not cope in quarantine hotel as I am fussy eater.

Gechik · 08/01/2022 06:41

It doesn't sound like it would be a very nice holiday, we don't bother to go abroad now because it's too much bother if you test positive while there. I go on holiday to enjoy a relaxing time away, not to worry about the next covid test and getting home

janicewheeler · 08/01/2022 08:15

@curlymom erm, I was on about the children not understanding why they're not allowed in a shop. Don't be so bloody rude and get your facts straight before you jump in with accusations

Can I ask, when you say Cyprus, are you referring to Northern or Southern? I’m assuming Southern? We are due to go to Northern Cyprus at the end of May and I’m dreading it already.

janicewheeler · 08/01/2022 08:26

South east, protaras to be exact.

Delatron · 08/01/2022 08:27

I wouldn’t bother going. What a faff and expense though it may change.

There’s lots of places to holiday with far less restrictions.

janicewheeler · 08/01/2022 08:29

@Delatron yeah I know, we haven't paid it off yet so if come March it's still strict I'll either not go or try and switch it to elsewhere !! Can't be doing with it all it's just too much isn't it

Delatron · 08/01/2022 08:33

It is such a faff OP. I’m going to Austria soon and they’ve just changed all their rules again!

I spent last night researching places with far fewer restrictions and testing for summer hols! Unfortunately many are long haul like Mexico and Costa Rica. Hoping Europe gets easier soon.

Geamhradh · 08/01/2022 08:33

Things will change before May I imagine.
I'm in Italy and a decision is going to be made today about opening our schools on Monday due to current numbers. Restrictions are being increased. They have to be at the moment.
Nobody thinks for an instant they'll still be in place by the spring. There may be increased travel restrictions for people coming into the country depending on numbers in that country, the same as last year.
But I wouldn't cancel yet.

uggmum · 08/01/2022 08:36

I went to Mauritius in October. At that point we had to be fully vaccinated and have a pre departure negative pcr. When we got to the hotel was had to have a lateral flow before we were let in. Then another 5 days later.

We also needed proof of a full covid cover travel insurance policy.

At that time the cases in Mauritius were sky high. Marks were worn everywhere, including walking down the street.

I did have a lovely holiday but it was very stressful in the lead up and I felt I couldn't properly relax until after the day 5 testing.

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2022 08:38

I was there in October & November as a relative was unwell.

Mask wearing & showing either negative LFT or covid safepass. Everyone complied. No one saying they were exempt from wearing a mask. Found it interesting actually. And not a big deal.

Cyprus don’t have the the necessary hospital infrastructure so I assume that’s why they are being so strict.

Mindymomo · 08/01/2022 08:47

Looking at the cases Cyprus has the highest cases at the moment over 3,000 per 100,000 so presume they have upped testing considerably.

curlymom · 08/01/2022 10:08

I did apologise but will now retract my apology. You are rude. Cancel the holiday and stay at home with your attitude

janicewheeler · 08/01/2022 10:36

@curlymom okay thanks for the advice. I wasn't rude until you jumped the gun. I didn't see your apology until after I had posted my reply.

All pointless. Their cases are rocketing, they are pointlessly jabbing kids snd they are ruining their tourism

We are currently planning a holiday to Croatia. All unvaxxed and all covid recovered.

mrsnec · 08/01/2022 10:44

My DC understand everything about the pandemic. DD was upset about not being allowed in the shop that time but she got over it and it hasn't happened again. It's me who has a problem with it. Also if young kids are exempt from testing prior to departure and are under different rules then its not fair an negates restrictions for residents. She is bothered about wearing a mask at school. The video of the outdoor nativity with socially distanced 7year olds in masks just broke my heart.

Re North Cyprus I don't know what the rules are for tourists but if you're flying into the south it would be under their rules, if you're flying via Turkey it would be under thier rules. H lives by the border is a UK passport holder and crosses from the South to North all the time. Residents just need a rapid test.

And yes re the Cyprus figures. Kids and workers all needing twice weekly pcrs so loads of tests happening.

I hope restrictions are better before May but if I was desperate to book a holiday now even for then I don't think I'd be looking at Cyprus.

Even though I was there for so long and given that I too saw people being compliant I have no idea why the figures are so high there although they do say vaccine uptake wasn't great but apparently they've made it easier

I think the Canary Islands and Portugal would perhaps be better options?
