Go to a party this weekend with at least 80 people in attendance?

For context, a year ago, I wouldn’t have gone in a busy pub or restaurant. I was very cautious and chose very carefully the type of indoor events I attended.

However, fast forward to now and I’ve really moved on. I’ve been away on several UK holidays, been to many restaurants and pubs, been to the theatre, attended a wedding…..

However, many of these things were a few months ago prior to Omicron and prior to the huge numbers of infections we are seeing across the UK.

I am completely split in two - being cautious vs living life without overthinking!

WWYD?

Your choice. Personally I would go to the party but then I don't care about COVID as I have had it so no longer fear it.

The question is, do you want to live free or be a slave to fear?

SickAndTiredAgain · 04/01/2022 18:10

Yes I would absolutely go if it was something I’d otherwise want to attend.

Claudethecat · 04/01/2022 18:11

Not sure tbh!

Potatodrivers · 04/01/2022 18:13

If isolation isn't going to affect you too much then I don't see why you shouldn't go.

Notonthestairs · 04/01/2022 18:15

I've had covid (last week!) I don't fancy getting it again if I can avoid it for a while!

What's your work/sick pay terms like? Could you isolate and work from home (if not too ill)?

Largethighsbadeyes · 04/01/2022 18:16

If you aren't bothered about getting it/having to isolate then go.

If you have something coming up that you can't miss or you would lose money from isolating then no I wouldn't

I work from home and would get full pay if I needed to be off sick.

Should have mentioned that I am CV but fully vaxxed and boosted.

Yes, but we are all different. Catching Covid doesn't concern me so I've never restricted my life when we weren't in lockdown. It's personal.

This.

It depends how worried you are about Covid and isolating. With 80 attendees, chances are several have Covid and don't know it yet.

Kshhuxnxk · 04/01/2022 18:28

Yes I would and I'm CEV.

historyrocks · 04/01/2022 18:29

Personally, I wouldn’t go. I had covid in November and was so poorly. Plus, isolating would be a big problem for me.

WTF99 · 04/01/2022 18:35

The way things stand I think you have a good chance of catching it at this event. I'm just getting over it. Don't know where I picked it up but I didn't do anything this risky.
If you don't mind taking that chance then go ahead.

RuthW · 04/01/2022 18:37

No I wouldn't

halcyondays · 04/01/2022 18:38

No I wouldn’t

rrhuth · 04/01/2022 18:40

If you go to this event my view is you have a pretty high chance of coming into contact with the virus.

So it all comes down to how bothered you are about catching it either for isolation reasons or health reasons.

DolphinFC · 04/01/2022 18:40

If you had children, would you be happy for their teacher to go?

NotYourHolidayDick · 04/01/2022 18:44

Fuck yes I'd go.
But I really don't give a shit about covid any more. It's stolen 2 years of my life already, its not having any more.
Bollocks to all of it at this point.

actiongirl1978 · 04/01/2022 18:46

I would.

I've had covid twice. Omicron was literally the most unremarkable cold.

Bunn5 · 04/01/2022 18:47

I do have a primary school aged child but not sure how I would feel if their teacher went to a party like this. Not sure it’s any of my business what my child’s teacher does in their spare time.

I have children and I'd be happy for his teacher to go. Why should teachers restrict their lives any more than the rest of us?
Giveaschitt · 04/01/2022 18:53

Why would anyone have any opinion on what perfectly legal activities their child's teacher engages in outside of school?! What a strange thing to say... Are yoi suggesting that people in certain professions should only go to work and otherwise just sit at home?

OP, I'd totally go. You might catch it, you might not. Same as going to the supermarket or anywhere else tbh. I'm not prepared to live the rest of my life in fear - I've had covid and had worse hayfever,so I'm not frightened of it.

DolphinFC · 04/01/2022 18:59

Trust me, as a teacher some parents claim the right to dictate what I can and cannot do if they feel it might result in me getting covid and the possibility of my class being sent home.

That is awful!

My head has has an email asking him to guarantee that teachers will not be socialising in the evenings and weekends in order to minimise the chances of a teacher getting covid and a class being sent home.
