Go to a party this weekend with at least 80 people in attendance?

For context, a year ago, I wouldn’t have gone in a busy pub or restaurant. I was very cautious and chose very carefully the type of indoor events I attended.

However, fast forward to now and I’ve really moved on. I’ve been away on several UK holidays, been to many restaurants and pubs, been to the theatre, attended a wedding…..

However, many of these things were a few months ago prior to Omicron and prior to the huge numbers of infections we are seeing across the UK.

I am completely split in two - being cautious vs living life without overthinking!

WWYD?

I would go. I'm fully vaxxed, and wouldn't be unduly affected if I needed to isolate. If I was about to go on holiday I might think differently...

I went to a party last week, 50 people or so. I haven't heard about anyone testing positive since. We all did LFTs before.

Covidworries · 04/01/2022 23:01

No i wouldnt go

Inastatus · 04/01/2022 23:04

Yes yes yes.

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/01/2022 23:06

If you had children, would you be happy for their teacher to go?

Teacher, would you rather attend a school full of hundreds of unvaccinated children with no PPE and an open window OR attend a party of 80 fully vaccinated adults?

Errrrrr

Candyflossie · 04/01/2022 23:26

If you're not bothered about having to isolate or feeling poorly after then go but I'd say at the moment there's a strong possibility you will get it with that many people there. I personally wouldn't at the moment but only get statutory sick pay.

Cherryblossoms85 · 04/01/2022 23:30

You might as well live your life.

NinaDefoe · 04/01/2022 23:30

Yes!
I’m in a room with up to 150 different people for 6 hours every day. If I’m going to get the virus the likelihood is I’ll get it there.

Difficult one that! 🤣

@DolphinFC

My head has has an email asking him to guarantee that teachers will not be socialising in the evenings and weekends in order to minimise the chances of a teacher getting covid and a class being sent home.
What nut head sent that? 🤪
DistantSkye · 04/01/2022 23:38

I would go if it was something I really wanted to do, yes.

@DolphinFC I'm surprised your head shared that with you all! Are they putting pressure on staff not to socialise? I mean head teachers receive constant, sometimes unreasonable communication from parents. Its not generally been my experience that it's shared with staff, or that they're expected to act on it.

justasking111 · 04/01/2022 23:42

I went to a dinner, ten of us, two caught covid. It's harder to avoid this time round

shinynewapple21 · 05/01/2022 11:00

@DolphinFC I wonder if that parent has the same expectations of the families of their child's classmates - or is it just the teacher Hmm

In answer to the OP - if I was invited to a party of someone I didn't know well, at the moment I wouldn't go. I would only go if I thought I would offend the party goer by not going - and then I would probably just sit in the corner for an hour! I would also feel a lot happier if the party was in a spacious hall somewhere , than if 80 people were squashed in someone's house.
