Do you think vaccines will become necessary for everybody

I've just returned from New York and everywhere I went I saw signs that anyone over the age of 5 must be fully vaccinated and produce a vaccine cert to dine in/reside. It has me thinking do you think vaccines will become compulsory for everyone worldwide in order to travel, go out for dinner or the cinema ect? Myself and my husband are vaccinated but we are just not sure whether to vaccinate our children yet. It makes me sad that if we don't vaccinate our children that we will never be able to go for a meal together or go on holidays or play centres ect. I've been trying not to think about it but unfortunately my oldest dc is now eligible for vaccination.

I think they will be very strongly encouraged. It'll probably become like the flu vaccine and other childhood vaccinations.

I don't think the government will mandate it though.

galaxytruffle · 03/01/2022 00:47

@Hercisback I hope not. Myself and my husband are very undecided what to do. We're both fully vaccinated but we just cannot agree what to do for our dc.

This might make your decision.

I'm guessing places might ask for vaccine status, particularly for international travel.

PAFMO · 03/01/2022 08:42

I think the UK will fall into line with many other similar countries on this, yes.

Sirzy · 03/01/2022 08:46

I don’t think they will be mandatory for day to day life but I think they are here to stay as a requirement for travel did a fair while yet

SickAndTiredAgain · 03/01/2022 08:52

I really really hope they won’t become mandatory for day to day life.
I’ve had my booster so I wouldn’t be personally restricted if they did, but I’m strongly against it as a policy.

FestiveFuckery · 03/01/2022 09:04

Sajid and Boris have both said they won't make it mandatory and if they were going to put restrictions on daily life, they would have done so already. I can only see it happening if government change and the new leaders decide but I think they know the peoples response wouldn't be good. We are not America.

EarPlugAfficionado · 03/01/2022 09:07

There are other countries to travel to that won’t be as militant about Covid.

Same here.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/01/2022 09:09

I hope so.

HesterShaw1 · 03/01/2022 09:11

Do you mean necessary or compulsory?

Because they are certainly not necessary for everyone. They might become compulsory in order to access certain services.

Who's the winner here Mr Pfizer ?

Tryingtryingandtrying · 03/01/2022 09:20

NYC has a very high rate despite this. Definitely hasn't helped.

CrunchyCarrot · 03/01/2022 09:32

I think they will be necessary for travel, but not for everyday things in the UK. However if you travel to another country vaccination may be essential for things like dining out.

XenoBitch · 03/01/2022 09:34

Maybe travel, but not domestic things.

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/01/2022 09:46

Yep

Probably not mandatory, but life will be difficult without them.

MissAmbrosia · 03/01/2022 09:54

I don't think foreign travel should be allowed when unvaccinated. I know it's not foolproof but might slow down the spread of new variants.

VikingOnTheFridge · 03/01/2022 10:00

Worldwide, no chance. There isn't the supply.

I can't see us going down that road in the UK either, it would be politically unpopular to impose requirements like NYCs for children that young. We may of course still be affected if we want to travel.

But why are some people prepared to have the vaccine for travel, but are hot happy to have them for the purposes in this country?
Petitbleu · 03/01/2022 10:05

I truly truly hope not, it's not helping the situation in other countries so why divide the country with such draconian measures. I think it will bring a lot more disadvantages than advantages and cause so much bad feeling. Speaking as someone that has been jabbed but very against mandatory jabs.

VikingOnTheFridge · 03/01/2022 10:05

No idea.

thewhatsit · 03/01/2022 10:34

I don’t think in the U.K.

Even for over 18s, Covid passes are necessary for very few activities. I can’t see them extending them both to cafes and restaurants and also to young children.

Travel might be harder for a few years though.

alisonsattic · 03/01/2022 11:17

So if I were to take my seven year old ( Uk citizen so not eligible for vaccine for Covid) to NYC, he wouldn't be able to eat in a restaurant? Or our international tourists exempt?
This is concerning me as might be planning a trip and I'm totally confused with rules/guidelines in different parts of the world.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/01/2022 11:18

Probably. Vast majority can’t be expected to pick up the slack for those choosing not to vaccinate by way of restrictions and closures.

Volhhg · 03/01/2022 11:37

Have family in NYC and I think this mandate for children will eventually be removed. We don't see the press about this but this is highly controversial and a big movement against it is growing. Children have always been over medicated in the US in a way that doesn't happen over here.
