If you have had COVID more than once...

... what was the time delay between the infections?

I had it in the second half of October and am wondering - given how different the new variant is - whether I'm likely to catch it again very soon or whether I should still be 'safe' for a while longer. I have seen many posters refer to getting it twice but they all seem to have had it in 2020 and then again in 2021, perhaps a year apart.

And before anyone asks (1) I had two AZ jabs in April and July and (2) will be getting a booster jab within the next couple of weeks.

I fully expect to get COVID again in 2022 with or without the booster, but would also expect only mild illness due to previous vaccination and infection. (TBH only going to get boostered because of the hassle from family and friends if I refuse it.) Just not sure how early in 2022 I should expect to catch it again.

You may not get it again. Of course no-one can answer your question.

ILookAtTheFloor · 01/01/2022 12:09

I know of 2 people and it was almost exactly a year for each of them.

That'd be nice! And yes, nobody can say when or if I will personally catch it again. Just trying to get a sense of whether there is anyone out there who's had confirmed COVID in the last few months and has already caught it again.

I'm still within the don't-test-for-90-days-post-COVID window at the moment. But not sure if I'm irresponsible by not doing LFTs if Omicron is so different and so infectious that it will easily infect Delta-veterans.

Am also feeling a bit anxious because DH is self-employed and we are absolutely skint after the expense of Christmas and him taking a week off work and therefore having zero income. It'd be lovely to think he's 'safe' for a good few weeks yet, at least. (He's also double jabbed mid-2021 and had COVID October 2021.)

Last paragraph wasn't clear, sorry: mentioned money because hoping that DH isn't going to need to self-isolate again soon as he can't really WFH!

4 months for one of my friends. We both had it in August and she’s just tested positive again 😞

bumblefeline · 01/01/2022 12:24

Thanks! And also, oh crap. :-( We may need to plan for another self-isolation period pretty soon, then...

My dd's friend had covid the same time as us (very end of October) and has it again now. Another friend of mine had it over Christmas and also in September this year too.

Sparklingwaterforme · 01/01/2022 12:33

I tested positive on 29th September but was asymptomatic just tired mainly (husband had it so did a pcr) was lateral flowing from early Dec as requested by work and then over Christmas for seeing people. Woke up feeling dreadful on 28th Dec with a temperature, lateral flow positive and pcr the next day came back positive. So I was literally 90 days after 😩 and I've been poorly this one as well 😑

WildCherryBlossom · 01/01/2022 20:38

My neighbour had it in August and again in December. Beyond 90 days but it does seem close together.

Other people I know have had it maybe 6 months apart.

actiongirl1978 · 01/01/2022 20:40

113 days between pos pcrs. August and December.

Felt different with each. First was awful, second was an unremarkable cold.

DH didn't catch it either time and DC didn't catch it the second time and we don't keep apart from each other in the house.

Daisychainsandglitter · 01/01/2022 20:43

Had covid the first time early Feb 2021 and have just tested positive today so just over 11 months.

Summersdreaming · 01/01/2022 20:43

5 months for me, July 21 and now. This time has been very very mild though, pre covid I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

AyeEee123 · 01/01/2022 20:45

My friends son had it October and is positive again atm.

medusawashere · 01/01/2022 20:47

It was almost exactly four months for me. Delta in August and Omicron over Christmas. It wasn't quite as bad the second time around though, if you catch it again, you may be OK. The jabs have been a lifesaver.

SSCCLL · 01/01/2022 21:10

Early January, June then late December

Porcupineintherough · 01/01/2022 21:13

9 months for me (Wuhan and Alpha) . Was guy expecting to catch omicron from ds2 who tested positive before Christmas but havent. God bless vaccination (I'm one of those that dont make antibodies to the natural disease).

medusawashere · 01/01/2022 21:15

You've had it three times? You poor thing!
Ffffffs · 01/01/2022 21:23

April 2020
Jan 2021
Dec 2021

Hoping 2022 is my year of zero covid but it doesn't look promising. DH definitely had it April 2020 (he donated plasma), DC no symptoms, DH and DC didn't get it as far as we know in Jan 2021, and lateral flows are negative for them so far this time round (not isolating other than spending most of my day in bed).

BlibBlabBlob · 01/01/2022 22:37

Blimey sorry to hear there are some who have had it THREE times! Even if the second/third time is incredibly mild, the inconvenience/stress of having to self-isolate yet again is so difficult.

I guess I'm resuming my twice-weekly LFTs as of next week, then, assuming I can get hold of any of course.

Still not 100% decided on timing of booster, though.

My daughter had it early October with just heavy cold symptoms. She’s got it again and has been much more unwell this time with a fever, headache and fatigue. 12 weeks between her two bouts…
She’s also given it to my husband and me who are both triple vaccinated…

ThoseFestiveLights · 01/01/2022 22:47

4 months for me dd. Heavy cold first time, no symptoms second time. Very distressed at having to isolate again when she feels well.

CovidForChristmas · 01/01/2022 22:47

My DC had 15 months between infections (both confirmed by PCR).
First time very unwell for a good 3 days but managed to keep them at home.
Second time hospitalised. They do have an underlying health condition though so perhaps not the norm.

Moolia · 01/01/2022 22:49

I know 5 people now who've had it twice within 2/3 months, including my DS.

Theimpossiblegirl · 01/01/2022 22:50

Dd's boyfriend, August 21 and this week. We also had it in August so don't feel as protected as we did before he got it. All double vaxxed but only DH boosted so far.
