I'm feeling pretty low today. I have Covid for the 2nd time (last time Apr 20) and I just feel awful. I don't understand how some people barely get affected. I only recovered from Long Covid in Mar this year and now I'm ill again and I'm scared I'm going to get Long Covid again.

I'm completely convinced they have been effective for us. DH and I are triple jabbed, two teens single jabbed (due second next week) and none of us have had it as far as we know. Teens particularly have been surrounded by covid at school - almost their entire classes have had it at some point. DH has also had quite a lot of exposure at work. We are trying our best to limit exposure, wearing masks etc. otherwise.

In fact of our wider families only the primary age kids and one (unjabbed) adult nephew have had tested cases. I thank our lucky stars (and the vaccine) for that. Omicron is making me nervous though.

@Ridiculousradish

I haven't had any jabs and don't feel unprotected. I work in a busy hospitality job serving lots of tourists. Eight out of ten of our team caught Covid, and I was working closely alongside them. My son had it a few months ago and I didn't catch it. Appreciate I could have caught it and been asymptomatic. I test regularly and am pretty sensible. Maybe I've just been lucky.
You might be lucky, you are certainly stupid and extremely selfish!
SmallElephant · 01/01/2022 10:01

Yes, I've had three jabs and haven't had Covid (yet!) despite having teens at school, working outside the home etc.

Livelifeinthebuslane · 01/01/2022 10:01

I haven't had Covid when DD had it twice, once before being vaccinated and once recently after two jabs, so it's difficult to know, maybe I have an immune system that recognised it in the first place. DD and I didn't distance.

onedayoranother · 01/01/2022 10:05

Yes, but I'm still cautious and avoid crowded places and I never stopped wearing a mask in shops etc, even though I really hate them. I have several friends who are positive now but only one has any symptoms beyond a sniffle. I think the fact they have all had their booster has helped.
I'm afraid it is just that our individual immunity is different- also the viral load you were exposed to and your general health. I have fit, young friends who got covid that floored them and some who only knew because they happened to take a test.

Treaclepie19 · 01/01/2022 10:06

I'm triple jabbed and despite having a 6yo at school and going to festivals and gigs, I've never had it (that I know of)
I also go to baby groups with My 1 year old and was pregnant during the whole first 6 months of the pandemic.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 01/01/2022 10:07

Both of my kids have separately had covid and I haven't caught it either time so yes.

stressedy · 01/01/2022 10:08

absolutely had covid and it was like mild flu x

bigdecisionstomake · 01/01/2022 10:09

All of my household have had 3 jabs. My eldest came back from Uni 11 days ago and started to get symptoms a few days later. Positive lateral flow on Christmas Eve confirmed by positive PCR results through on Boxing Day. He has a part time job in a busy Wetherspoons at Uni so I'm assuming he picked it up there just prior to coming home.

He has had very mild symptons (and very faint lines on lfts) and despite the fact we were mixing closely with him prior to the positive lft none of the rest of us have picked it up. His symptoms were cold like so I'm assuming Omicron therefore very contagious.

I can only assume our vaccinations did their job and protected us.

OvaHere · 01/01/2022 10:11

None of us have caught so far (5 in household) that we are aware of. I have to assume the vaccine has played a part in that although youngest has only just had his 2nd jab this week.

Also assuming with how transmissible Omicron is that we won't avoid it this year. I know so many people who have caught it in the last few weeks.

Turquoisesea · 01/01/2022 10:22

I think it is down to individuals immune system how ill you get. I’m sure the jabs do help but we all had Covid in October, me double jabbed (but 2nd jab AZ in May), DH single jabbed and 2 teens no jabs. We all had slightly different symptoms but none of us were more ill than the other. I may have been worse without the 2 jabs as I’m the oldest and most unfit but difficult to say. We were all recovered after 2 weeks and although it wasn’t pleasant it wasn’t the worst illness I’ve ever had and was like mild flu for us. My DBro and DSis both had it before vaccines and they had pretty much the same experience of it as us and my brother is overweight and in his fifties. Im sure the vaccines do help in most cases but not all. But sorry you have it again and are unwell Flowers

cliffdiver · 01/01/2022 10:23

I'm not sure.

I had COVID in June 2020, and felt pretty okay.

I've since had both vaccines and the booster.

I've now got COVID 7 days after the booster, and I feel much, much worse with it this time.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 01/01/2022 10:24

I've not had covid so far if that's down to the vaccine or just sheer luck I'm not sure. I know plenty people who are boosted covid positive at the moment (some mild some quite unwell) so I'm starting to think maybe the vaccines aren't as good as we were led to believe

Mollysocks · 01/01/2022 10:27

I had COVID recently OP and have had all the vaccines.

Why could it be that it hasn't helped me? Or maybe you have all just been lucky

Maybe we were lucky though, maybe we would have been a lot worse if we hadn’t had the vaccine? I guess we’ll never know 😊

Roadhouse111 · 01/01/2022 10:27

Has definitely protected me and my husband and my parents as my children both had it and none of us did, despite living together, cuddles etc.

Sorry to hear you are poorly, I suppose there has to be a minority it doesn't work as well for ☹️

Snowiscold · 01/01/2022 10:32

I’ve not had it, and nor has DH, and we are both clinically vulnerable. Both triple jabbed. I definitely think it protected us. One adult DC (double jabbed) who lives with us caught it, but wasn’t ill with it at all. We didn’t get it.
