Do you feel the vaccine has protected you?

I'm feeling pretty low today. I have Covid for the 2nd time (last time Apr 20) and I just feel awful. I don't understand how some people barely get affected. I only recovered from Long Covid in Mar this year and now I'm ill again and I'm scared I'm going to get Long Covid again.

Probably I've never to my knowledge had Covid. I'm only double jabbed as part of a vaccine trial

urbanbuddha · 01/01/2022 01:52

Yes.
I'm in central London and so I'm careful in all ways but I don't think it's anything other than full vaccination that has protected me so far.

Gooseysgirl · 01/01/2022 01:56

Yes... I have had 3 x Pfizer jabs and did not catch it from DD when she had a couple of months ago.

Icecreamandapplepie · 01/01/2022 01:56

Yes

Forgetaboutme · 01/01/2022 01:57

Yes because ive avoided covid a few times now including my 6 year old having it and giving him lots of cuddles.

UndertheCedartree · 01/01/2022 01:59

Why could it be that it hasn't helped me? Or maybe you have all just been lucky.

OP posts:
Cissyandflora · 01/01/2022 01:59

I think so. I have had 3,Pfizer and I just had covid. It was nothing like cold or flu. I was affected. But not too badly.

Lacedwithgrace · 01/01/2022 01:59

No, I still think they're important but I don't feel any safer, and don't feel they protect those who won't or can't have the jabs

urbanbuddha · 01/01/2022 02:05

Sadly I think it's more that you have been unlucky. Pfizer was 90ish per cent effective against delta, so not working for 1 in 10. The booster is 70 - 75 per cent effective against omicron, so not effective for 1 in 3 to 1 in 4.

Flaxmeadow · 01/01/2022 02:09

Yes I believe so, a few times

You have been unlucky to catch it twice Flowers

You might have been worse this time without the vaccine? I hope you get well soon.

disneydreaming · 01/01/2022 02:15

Yes, I have been a close contact of several people who have had covid, including both my children (one recently over Xmas with omicron) where I was in very regular close contact etc and I have been fortunate enough not to catch covid which I can only put down to having both my vaccinations.
I have not however had the booster.

itiswhatitisnt · 01/01/2022 02:16

I've had all 3 jabs and I've now got covid. It's awful and I'm feeling very sorry for myself. I've kept my circle very small, hardly socialise at all yet I'm the only one at home that's got it.
DH is the complete opposite plays a lot of contact sport, out at the bar a couple of times a week so far he's escaped!

Out of interest- did you do lateral flow tests for yourself whilst your child was positive? Just wondering how many people have it without knowing.
RobertSmithsLipstick · 01/01/2022 02:18

I try to believe it will protect me from getting really ill if/when I catch it, but I'm quietly sceptical.

UndertheCedartree · 01/01/2022 02:20

@rrhuth - thank you. When I caught it this time I was sure I would just have 'a cold' considering I'd already had Covid plus jabs. But it is sinking in that this is not the case atall. Even my super healthy DC are still suffering badly with fatigue. I am worried about them being well enough for school/college next week, although it is pretty much a guarantee that I won't be able to take my DD anyway.

Oh, I'm so sorry. It is such an awful illness. I really hope you make a full recovery soon.

I’ve never had covid and spend my entire working day with people who do. PPE and vaccination are the reason I’m alive.

If I do get covid, as I expect I will from the community, I’ll be very much less likely to end up a patient in my own icu.

itwasntaparty · 01/01/2022 02:26

I do - had it twice, delta I assume in august, after two AZ and then I assume omicron but not confirmed last month, three weeks after booster.

I'm the wrong side of 40, overweight and smoke a bit but I was barely ill. Husband is a secondary teacher and two kids in primary so have been exposed a lot through them.

I'm sorry for anyone struggling - it's just an unknown entity how it will hit an individual.

Snugglybuggly · 01/01/2022 02:27

Yes

iabvvu · 01/01/2022 02:39

In a similar boat- just tested positive for the second time, first was December 2020. Now triple jabbed, had booster in early nov. Felt unwell for months last time, sense of smell still affected but hopefully this will be better because of the vaccines, only time will tell

frozendaisy · 01/01/2022 02:53

Hell yeah

Bubbublish · 01/01/2022 03:29

I believe (and so did the hospital medical team) that the vaccines saved my life. I was very ill in hospital for 11 days in August (double jabbed). I've now got long covid and have regular check ups at a long covid clinic as well as physio for my lungs as they are scarred and I still get breathless ☹️. I've now had my booster as well. Hope you feel better soon

I'm petrified of getting Long Covid again. I was also hospitalised last time. Hope it doesn't happen again. To be honest if you only had Covid in August you have a long way to go with Long Covid and breathlessness. It is good there are clinics to keep an eye on you but ultimately I believe it is a waiting game. I was unwell with Covid for about 3 months last time and then Long Covid for about a year. I don't feel like I can go through it all again.

For the second time, Covid has hit my children (first time Delta, and currently I assume Omicron), and I haven't caught it, so yes, I do think the vaccine/booster must be working.

Sorry to hear you have it again. Hope it's milder and you recover quickly.
