What do you eat when you can't taste?

I'm hungry, but what the hell do you eat when everything tastes of absolutely nothing? What did you eat when you had this?

My friend said just toast as it felt pointless eating anything else. Maybe smoothies or that complan stuff?

Greenmarmalade · 31/12/2021 20:33

I would go on a major health trip and eat really healthy stuff and drop all carbs.

Katie517 · 31/12/2021 20:34

Use it as an opportunity to eat very healthy food, green smoothies, soup with lots of veggies etc. as it will help your immune system recover

Workyticket · 31/12/2021 20:34

Definitely not lasagna. It was like eating a cushion!

I ate salt and vinegar crisps and spicy noodles 🤣

Not healthy exactly but I could vaguely taste the salt and vinegar and the spice in the noodles.

I had covid in September and my lack of taste only lasted 10 days or so, I still can't smell unless I'm close up to things though.

Hope you fell better soon!

Second vote for salt & vinegar crisps.
Also Chinese food - I could pick up umami even if I couldn't smell anything

Toomanyradishes · 31/12/2021 20:50

Really hot curry, because normally i can only handle mild curries so i let my husband make the most of it and make curries as hot as he likes, plus spices tend to be good for you so i figured it wouldnt harm

QueenofLouisiana · 31/12/2021 20:55

I lost my sense of smell, so I ate feta, salted crisps and olives. Things with any sort of smell really tasted odd (vinegar, spicy food etc).

DigitalGhost · 31/12/2021 20:55

Tried a vindaloo for the first time when I had covid. I'll never know what it tasted like Confused

milleniumhandandprawn · 31/12/2021 21:22

Spoonfuls of capers. On everything and on their own!
Spicy things - at least you can feel the heat!
Crunchy things.
Cold things - frozen peas, ice cream etc.

So far have lost 7 lbs due to no smell Covid... not the worst diet I've been on!

Breastfeedingworries · 31/12/2021 21:23

I ate really spicy curries and I could just slightly taste something, covered food in pepper. I lost so much weight Covid diet is a thing, nothing appeals 🤦🏼‍♀️

vroc81 · 31/12/2021 21:24

Coffee and salt and vinegar crisps tasted really weird while I could taste nothing else… so I just ate toast for a couple of days..

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 31/12/2021 21:27

I mostly ate crisps and toast. Don't know if anyone else thought this but chewing was a real chore when food tasted of cardboard, felt like I was chewing everything forever before swallowing it.

Bobholll · 31/12/2021 21:28

Stir fry! Literally everyday!

Loads of veg - healthy & crunchy. That was important. Texture was important.
Noodles - comforting
Sweet chilli sauce - I could get a slight hint of sweetness!

Also smoothies, veg soup, crisps & biscuits!
I could get hints of sweet & salty, which was something! I wish I had lost my appetite 😂

WorstXmasEver · 31/12/2021 21:29

I could taste sweet things when I lost my sense of smell to covid. Totally returned now.

The worst thing I had was a chicken tikka subway which had a horrible consistency & tasted of nothing at all. Oh & chips were vile too.

Shitenbollocks · 31/12/2021 21:34

I’m not really a salad lover but I really enjoyed eating raw carrots…maybe because they don’t taste of much anyway.

lljkk · 31/12/2021 21:42

Why not concentrate on textures because you can still sense those, right? If it all tastes of nothing then you can go for super healthy options that you might normally not like... my dad would put Brocoli and tomatoes at top of his list like that.

orangepeelsz · 31/12/2021 21:45

Anything spicy or salt and vinegar, I lived on curries and salt and vinegar crisps and peanuts Grin

Didicat · 31/12/2021 21:47

I couldn’t be bothered to cook, the family were less than impressed. I bought about a months worth of hellofresh boxes. The kids then helped choose and make dinner and I felt at least it wasn’t feeding them pizza and chips because food was so unappealing without taste.

RamonaandBeezus · 31/12/2021 21:52

I could still tell if something was hot or cold so crunchy nut cornflakes with ice cold milk were all I could be bothered with. Got the sweetness a bit too if I sliced a banana on top! Could also just taste marmite on toast!

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 31/12/2021 21:57

I could feel heat, so had things with peri peri sauce and hot curries. I found though that I just didn’t have a big appetite. Was cooking for the family as normal but just didn’t feel hungry, which I think was more due to loss of smell during cooking

This is a good idea.

I've only cooked twice since xmas eve, no one is looking after me or thinking about cooking for us... Pity party for one over here.

Salad and cold bits sound triable right now... I've only had 2 cups of tea and a hot chocolate again today (hugz for 1)

paperdollar · 31/12/2021 22:17

Lots of noodles, could sense the taste of the salt/spice. It was strange having to rely on salt for flavour when I usually eat sweet things. Had a lot of porridge with chopped apple cooked in because I enjoyed the texture. Also ate watermelon, cucumber and potato wedges for texture.
