Tested positive this morning. Was breathless coming down the stairs, has spent most of the day on the couch or in bed. Has eaten when I brought him things. Temp of 39 so have just given ibuprofen before bed. He feels sick and says he has a headache - he's usually so full of energy,I've never seen him like this. Never thought it would hit him this hard, especially the first day.

I'll be sleeping in his room tonight on a camp bed but can anybody reassure me.

Dd was like that yesterday, she was really sick once. Much better today Smile not 100% but enough to eat a bit and shower.

greenweepingwillow · 30/12/2021 21:29

my ds (13) had it recently. was quite unwell with bad headache and temp on the first day. didn't really eat, just lay on sofa, not at all like him.
woke up the next day almost back to normal - just a bit more tired than usual
by day 3 he was completely back to his usual self and driving me mad!

wonderstuff123 · 30/12/2021 21:33

Gosh, thank you both,I hope this is my sons experience. I tested positive on 27th and I'm pretty much back to normal but he seems a lot worse hit than me

Yes, DD2 (14) was sick 3 or 4 times over the course of 2 days. Appetite didn't come back for several days. Fevers reached 39.6°c but no higher. We were all quite ill for about a week, then got gradually better and started eating again.

itsgettingweird · 30/12/2021 21:38

I'm hearing lots of people report this is hitting children hard.

Especially primary aged children so maybe vaccine related?

But everyone is also saying it's for 2-3 days and then they bounce back so hopefully he'll be though the worst by the weekend 🤞

Glowtastic · 30/12/2021 21:43

DS 12 tested positive yesterday, he's been really poorly. X 2 days on the sofa and has vomited ++. It's hitting looks harder but it's not making the news. Angry. He's up and down so just giving paracetamol and ibuprofen alternately. He had a few better hours today where he ate some soup. Seems to be getting to him worse in the evening.

Glowtastic · 30/12/2021 21:43

Hitting kids

wonderstuff123 · 30/12/2021 21:47

Yes,I've felt worse in the evening,I think that's the same with most illnesses.
God,my son son hates being sick so will be hate it if he is. And yes,I'll defo need to stay on top of alternating the ibuprofen and paracetamol tomorrow

Sorry to hear your son's not well either,it's really shocked me how hard it's hit him compared to me.

My 12 year old tested positive Tuesday morning. He's on immunosuppressants and I've been dreading him getting covid. He started off with fever, body burning up, leg pains and severe vomiting for 24 hours....couldn't keep anything down! Slept most of Tuesday and yesterday's and today he is more or less back to his usual self! I'm so pleased as I was extremely concerned about him at one point. Wising your son a speedy recovery also xx

Yes my sons been saying his legs feel like jelly. Just got him of to bed so hoping the ibuprofen and paracetamol will give him a good rest. But I'll be sleeping in his bedroom to keep an eye.

Poor thing, I hope he feels better fast. My 11 year old tested positive on Christmas day, she was totally fine the day before. Woke up croaky on Christmas day, tested positive and started feeling rough fast. She didn't have a high temperature but did feel really grotty for two days, headache, sore throat, dizzy, felt really sick. Then she felt much better the next day fortunately. She is still feeling a bit under the weather and has a bit of a cough but overall says she feels okay now.

SpornStar · 30/12/2021 22:11

My 9 year old woke up hoarse on Boxing Day. Sent off a postal PCR & got a positive result on 28th.
She’s had a sore throat, runny nose and slight cough but is a bit better today. Her symptoms have been no worse than a moderate cold.

BearPomBear · 30/12/2021 22:12

Same to the jelly legs. My son has slept in my bed with me since he became ill. I've had a few sleepless nights but hoping tonight is much better x

Lndnmummy · 30/12/2021 23:06

Oh OP this was me yesterday, my ds was so unwell. Here for the hand hold. Ice lollies for hydration and small syringes of fluid if he cant keep anything down. Ibupohen can be hard on the stomach although suppositories can be better tolerated. Is he getting the right amount of paracetamol? Go by weight rather than age. Sending loveFlowers

Hello again, just linking to my thread from yesterday as I got so much great advice and thought it might help/be soothing to read.Flowers

My 12 year old has just had it and was really poorly on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. She turned a corner on Boxing Day and has just about got it out of her system today.

My 9 year old was completely asymptomatic. And he is the pickiest eater the one I always worry about getting the right nutrition! It seems so random.

puffylovett · 31/12/2021 07:46

Like the poster above my 12 year old was really poorly for 2 day (couldn’t get off the floor, horrific headache, nausea) then gradually got better although 8 weeks later we are struggling with constipation issues. The eldest (picky eater, lives on crisps and beans so must be seriously deficient) had a headache for a few hours Hmm
I’m sure he will be fine x

I think people tend to assume that 'mild' equates to trivial, when actually it means 'does not require hospital'

According to DC lots of their friends have it at the moment, and it's officially mild in all. In most it's also trivial, but there are a few who are really quite ill at home.

Cocothebear · 31/12/2021 07:58

My DD 5 had it last Christmas (2020), she was so poorly with it I was really shocked too as everyone was saying children don’t get very ill from it, it took 3 months for her to get back to normal from the tiredness I’d find her in a little ball on her bedroom floor asleep after school, not like her at all. I’d spoken to her GP re a form of rehab but fortunately she slowly got better before we got to that. I’m actually in Ned now with Covid on my second day, I feel horrific and have been triple jabbed.

This is why I get so angry when people put stupid posts up saying we should lift all restrictions and just not declare it/isolate etc… I’m so worried about her getting it again.

I hope your son recovers fast, most seem to have a very quick recovery ❤️

This is so true!
Thatsplentyjack · 31/12/2021 08:02

My 8 year old was like that for the first day, then was fine. My 13 year old had had chest pains, a rash that s like sunburn on his back and chest and a sore head.

My 10yo ds was similar in early December. His fever lifted the following day. He was doing schoolwork (remotely obviously) on day 4 (he was bored and wanted to!). He was 95% back to normal in a week, was slightly more tired than normal in week 2, but now fully back to normal
CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/12/2021 08:09

My 11 year old was quite poorly with it just before Christmas but only for about 48 hours. When she tested positive on day 0 she was symptomless. Days 2 and 3 she had sore throat, temperature, projectile vomiting. wouldn't eat, headaches, just lay there making a moaning noise. Day 4 she was full of beans and negative on a LFT. It seems to hit hard but fast.

I'm not wishing to trivialise and I'm sorry your DS is ill - my DS has been ill too - but what is being described is no different to the symptoms 1,000s of kids get from bugs every year, whether it's RSV, flu, or a nasty cold. It's no more worthy of the news than it per-Covid.

Can you imagine the news in 2018 saying "the headlines tonight: suicide bombing leaves 100 dead, hurricane leaves thousands homeless in Cuba, children are off school with a nasty cold."? We need some perspective.

Bobholll · 31/12/2021 11:47

Kids get poorly with illnesses. People are just freaking out because it’s covid. Both mine ended up in hospital this summer due to horrific other viruses. One ended up severely dehydrated after a vomiting bug and the other had a chest infection they required IV antibiotics & oxygen. They’ve also both been flat out on the sofa with fevers, another stomach bug, tonsillitis, coughs & colds all winter. It’s been brutal this year. Covid was by far the mildest of the lot for us. Mine are primary aged.

Just stop panicking & treat it like any other illness. 99.9% of kids will quickly recover. It doesn’t need some headlines freaking out the health anxious even more 🙄
