How are you feeling right now? I've very close relatives in several states who are bemoaning the lack of testing but apart from that seem content now the majority who want to be are vaccinated that is should run it's course - how is it going - are your govt also looking to reduce isolation from 10 to 7?

I too blame Gladys for the particular plight Melbourne was put in last year. Agree it is hard to talk to people from other states as they have no idea what we went through.

Dishhh · 01/01/2022 00:32

@Dishhh

My DH and DS still haven't got their PCR results back yet; this is day 3. DS is still fairly ill.

Day 4 and the results are back: both negative! Smile DS is still fairly ill though so keeping a close eye on him.

@SimpsonsXmasBoogie

I'm in QLD and to be honest I don't care anymore. I'm tired. (I have a relative in the UK who sadly died from covid in 2020 so I'm not speaking from a particularly sheltered position)

This has all been going on for so long that I've run out of energy for it. I'm happy to put my mask on and sign in to places if that's what we're meant to do, but I'm not worrying about it anymore.

We have a decent percentage of the population vaxxed. I say let's just get on with it.

I feel the same. I’m in South Australia.

I’d really like to get a few rapid tests in case I get symptoms (live by myself) but I don’t feel right about buying them at the moment even if I can find them as I feel other people need them more. Hopefully more are available soon.

I’m triple jabbed and ready to get on with life. Completely expect to catch it sooner or later and not too stressed about it.

At least all border testing and forms have been scrapped in South Australia so I’m hoping I can go on a more ‘normal’ holiday later in the year.

bluetongue · 01/01/2022 07:08

@WoodenReindeer

My relative mentioned the QR codes are still going. Do they still chase those up/contact people if they are close by?
The QR codes are still a thing in South Australia. I no longer use them to check in apart from medical settings like GP or pharmacy.
Derelicthome · 01/01/2022 07:39

I’m in Victoria and so over it. Just counting down the days till I can vote out our government.
Will be interesting to see if I’m in the minority but I do have a gut feeling it will be a landslide defeat.

StartupRepair · 01/01/2022 07:42

@Derelicthome are you talking about the state or federal government?

Derelicthome · 01/01/2022 07:53

Victorian State government but that’s mainly because I voted them in and expected better.

CalicoAnnie · 01/01/2022 08:14

@DifferentHair

I'm in Melbourne. It's a sickening feeling to watch it completely let loose after all the sacrifices we made over the last two years. What the fuck was that for if they were always going to let it run rampant?! My children missed things they can never get back.

Watching NYE celebrations occur at this point in time is maddening.

I wish they would keep the monitoring up, plan for more testing capacity instead of telling people not to test. They should cancel big events.

My children are too young to be vaccinated. I have immune compromised friends.

It's insane to me.

I am in regional NSW and don’t feel that the lockdowns in Vic were a waste of time as without them it would have spread everywhere. This has allowed me to get double jabbed and I am very grateful to the Victorians who locked down for the rest of the country.

I would like the opportunity to get boosted to protect me against Omicron but due to the late roll out of vaccines in regional areas mine won’t be until end of Jan even if they bring it forward to 3 months. In my area we are starting to get some cases and we already have 3 out of our 9 ICU beds in use for COVID.

I really wish that RAT tests were freely available and free since I think if people only have mild symptoms they won’t bother to source or pay the $15 to test. I work with a lot of anti Vaxxers /maskers and I feel that they would have to be quite sick in order to get tested and I think this will hasten the spread. I am the only one at work who continues to wear a mask and I will do so until I have my booster.

IGotAVaxAndILikedIt · 01/01/2022 08:52

I'm in Sydney. Just going about my business as usual to be honest.

We had a big family Christmas, a quick getaway with DH, went to a New Years Eve party and away on a family holiday next week.

We are vaccinated, booked for boosters, fine with wearing masks inside, don't really see the point in QR codes anymore since it is everywhere.

Glad we decided to not try to travel interstate (or internationally), these holidays so we have avoided most of the mess out there.

Mostly sticking to outside socialising but not sweating that particularly either.

Sarahschild · 01/01/2022 11:13

CalicoAnnie
Where do you work? How can you work with anti vaxxers?. No one is allowed to work with out it.

I work in a small retail business. The owner is an anti vaxxer, he has a mask exemption and actively tells customers not to bother wearing one. They all have fake vaccination certificates on their phones.

I would be absolutely stunned if Dan andrews doesn’t get re-elected. I am so angry about how they are failing on the environment and pushing their big build plans everywhere no matter what residents think, but have to acknowledge he’s an extremely successful politician, and Guy Matthews is more of a codfish. On the other side of it Josh Frydenbergs result in the federal election will be very interesting.
ajandjjmum · 02/01/2022 15:03

Slightly off topic, but looking for advice. DS is shortly leaving the UK to return to Sydney - is he allowed to take a pack of lateral flow tests with him?

I don’t see why not. But he could bring a few and sell them because we have a massive shortage and nobody can buy them!! All the retailers have sold out.

Daniel Andrews will get in.
DifficultBloodyWoman · 02/01/2022 22:27

What about Anastasia Palecek? Will she be voted back in?

QLD depends so much on tourism. I know people in FNQ just want to get back to normal in terms of travel and borders. The same in Tweed Heads. But what about everyone in between?

My last PCR test was done in ACT last week - results came back 18 hours later. The previous test was in QLD and took 48 hours. Interestingly, the queues were longer in ACT (3 hours) than in QLD (4 cars and 10 minutes).

I’m upset about the heavy handed approach the vic govt took. Locking down regions that were nowhere near an outbreak. And they never seemed to change tactic/ show some nuance as time went on. It felt like the decisions they made were punitive. Surely the quiet majority feel this way?

Derelicthome · 02/01/2022 23:47

Not sure about any of the other the governments. It will be interesting.

Yes they did show nuance, use of curfew for one.

If they hadn’t been heavy handed we’d be seeing the current numbers but in an unvaccinated population. I work in a hospital ward that’s completely unrelated to covid and it’s struggling now it’s only going to get worse. If this had happened pre vaccine it would have been a disaster
BinChicken3 · 03/01/2022 03:24

I’m so mad that the rapid antigen tests are not free and not available anywhere anyway.

Great job Scott Morrison, botched this along with the vaccine rollout. Why do idiots vote for him?

Derelicthome · 03/01/2022 04:55

Seems I am in the minority!

StartupRepair · 03/01/2022 06:04

I look forward to voting for Andrews in November. They did everything they could to save lives unlike the LNP federally who are leaving the vulnerable behind.

Kohby190 · 03/01/2022 06:23

But how did the Andrew’s government try to save lives? Victoria has the worst death rate in aus and the longest lockdown in the world, hardly something to aspire to.
