If you know someone in their fifties who has caught Covid in the past 2-3 weeks (so probably Omicron)...

...how are they?
Have seen lots of posts about people with relatively mild symptoms, but conscious that many of them may be a lot younger than 50. Interested in hearing about experiences of people in their fifties who have had (probable) Omicron (and whether they are boostered/double jabbed/unvaccinated).

Well I’m only a couple of years off of 50, and am nearing the end of omicron. It’s been mild. Weird, poorly, but mild.

I did have my booster 5 weeks ago though, so am in the sweet spot of maximum protection - not sure how I’d have fared if i was only double vaxxed 6 months ago and hadn’t had the booster yet.

Ifitistobesaid · 29/12/2021 22:36

Not fifties but my Dad who’s 73 has had it for the past week and has mild cold symptoms (ticklish cough and congestion). Pretty much the same symptoms I’ve had and I’m in my thirties. He’s double jabbed and boosted.

Cherrypie32 · 29/12/2021 22:40

I’m 51. Triple vaccinated (had booster a good 4/5 weeks ago) got Covid now. Day 3 just over and I’m feeling better already. I felt worse with the ‘super cold’ a few weeks ago that put me in bed for 4 days. I’ve had head and body aches, tired, hot (bit shivery) and feel a pressure in my chest but no cough or sore throat here. It’s a bit rough but copeable. I’ve been watching a lot of tv and took the decs down today but that exhausted me 😂

TenoringBehind · 29/12/2021 22:40

I know lots. Some asymptomatic. Others ill for 24-48 hours, like a cold, then absolute fine.

Elzbells · 29/12/2021 22:44

I'm 46, one jab, it was a mild flu with an irritating cough for me

DaisyWaldron · 29/12/2021 22:45

My friends and family (late 40s onward) are dropping like flies. All mild, so far, ranging from mild cold they could work through to horrible flu-like illness that's kept them in bed for a week and left them still tired and wobbly (but able to go to work but not do much else) after another two weeks. All double-vaccinated, around 2/3 boosted.

I know of two people who have died in the past month (not people I know personally, but friend-of-a-friend, move in vaguely similar circles) and they have both been young (late 20s/mid 30s), previously healthy and unvaccinated.

Theimpossiblegirl · 29/12/2021 22:46

I've known a few too be very flu like, but no hospitalisations.

Ragwort · 29/12/2021 22:46

A friend of mine (mid 60s) caught it, double jabbed & booster, said it was just like a mild cold. Did not pass it on to his wife.

Mojoj · 29/12/2021 22:46

I know lots over fifty. Mild cold symptoms lasting three days approximately. Which makes the current restrictions ludicrous.

Whatafool123 · 29/12/2021 22:47

I am early 50s, tested positive before Christmas and had symptoms of a mild head cold. Husband and brother similar age and similar symptoms (although both felt a bit lacking in energy too). Both are triple jabbed as am I.

Parents in their early 80s also had it. DM was quite ill with flu-like symptoms and a bit wiped out, DF had a cough and lost some of his taste. All well again now. Both also triple jabbed. Best thing that has happened to my Mum. She has been terrified of Covid since early 2020, and is now so relieved she has had it and been OK. Her mood has lifted completely. I appreciate (as she does) that she has been very lucky not to get it before now.

AuntieStella · 29/12/2021 22:48

2 are ok - distinctly ill but not worryingly so (both had confirmed covid in spring)

Another tested positive yesterday, so we'll wait and see

IntrovertedOldLady · 29/12/2021 22:48

My uncle is in icu

Packingsoapandwater · 29/12/2021 22:49

Dad, 78, two vaccinations, no booster, has it. Tiredness, shivers and night sweats, says he feels okay now after 24 hours.

Me, 45, two vaccs, no booster yet, have it (pos lft this morning). Tiredness, hot pins through joints, shivers, night sweats; I honestly feel like I want to want to fade away as I've just got over delta.

I really have had enough; we are perpetually ill and don't live particularly high or medium risk lives.

Northernlurker · 29/12/2021 22:49

I know two. Both very unwell. One hospitalised and still in. Both unvaccinated so to be expected tbh.

Fossilette · 29/12/2021 22:50

My husband, who is 52 and has been boosted, compared it to a 36 hour hangover. 🤦🏼‍♀️ He tested positive on Xmas Eve but felt fine. By Xmas Day night he looked a bit tired. He slept for most of Boxing Day, then has been chirpy ever since. Still testing positive with the faintest of lines on a LFT. 🤞🏼 for negative tomorrow. 😷

ChangingStates · 29/12/2021 22:51

One, early 50s, double vaccinated, very mild symptoms- bit of a cold, bit of a headache.
Another mid fifties, double vaccinated, felt quite rough like a bad flu.
Another early 60s, unvaccinated, pretty unwell for a couple of weeks, still having some difficulties a couple of weeks later

Whatafool123 · 29/12/2021 22:51

Oh I forgot, my hips and thighs ached for a few days, as did DHs.

bumblefeline · 29/12/2021 22:52

DH 50 soon. He was hospitalised last year with Covid. Has had three vaccines since then. Had covid this past week, out of isolation today. It was like a mild cold. So bloody relieved.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/12/2021 22:52

i know three people in their mid 40s who have it currently. All are standard nasty virus poorly ie ill enough to be off work (isolation aside, obviously), but not so ill they've needed medical treatment of any kind. All jabbed and boosted, one with significant comorbidities.

RockaLock · 29/12/2021 22:55

My DM is on day 8 of having covid. She's 76, only felt ill for a couple of days, and said "I've had worse colds".

LilyPond2 · 29/12/2021 22:56

Thank you for the replies. @IntrovertedOldLady Sorry to hear about your uncle.

Mykittensmittens · 29/12/2021 22:58

I know two confirmed omicron cases. North London.

Husband and wife. Both 50’s, fit and well although he was overweight. Non smokers. She remained at home. He was admitted Xmas eve. He died Christmas Day.

Neither had been vaccinated. I’m not opening a debate on that fact just adding it to the info for the full picture. Im not anti vaxx either I’ve had all mine. Such a shame. Could have been different with the vaccine I suspect.

plominoagain · 29/12/2021 22:59

Me ! 50 , had a dreadful sore throat on the 22nd and just felt meh . LFTs all negative . Requested by work to get a PCR , finally got one on the 27th , and evening of the 27th went suddenly shivery and coughing , and my tea tasted like dishwater . PCR came back the next morning positive , my temp keeps going back up to 39 , and I haven’t really got out of bed since . Feel marginally brighter today then yesterday . I might think about getting up tomorrow

plominoagain · 29/12/2021 23:01

And double vaccinated was due for booster in 10 days - maybe not

Borisblackcat · 29/12/2021 23:04

I’m 57, triple jabbed and on day 9 of covid. Very mild cold symptoms for a few days and that’s it. Feeling fine now.
