I think you're meant to stay there until you have a test

BeLessMe · 29/12/2021 15:49

Try booking her PCR later and first thing in the morning. They release slots throughout the day.

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2021 15:49

which test? the pcr or lft?

Keep checking online, test slots pop up now and again. You should isolate until you get a negative PCR result unfortunately (at least that is how it works where I am in the UK, check the gov site for your own local info)

Porfre · 29/12/2021 15:50

I've just checked for a PCR test and theres loads available where I am. Not sure if they've just been released.

Comefromaway · 29/12/2021 15:51

We are in a similar situation. Father in law who we spent Xmas with tested positive and Ds is feeling unwell. I checked every hour and eventually some slots came up.

CoedenNadolig · 29/12/2021 15:53

Just order two postal pcr tests for you and DD. And you can leave the house to post them.

I wouldn't go out shopping or anything, till you know you are negative from the PCR.

If you develop symptoms after the initial test which could be negative, order another PCR and isolate as per guidelines.

Lateral flows are crap anyway, just bang in a PCR.

Comefromaway · 29/12/2021 15:53

There are no postal tests available either.

Flippydip · 29/12/2021 15:54

If you're in England you can carry on as normal unless you get symptoms. Someone I know was unable to book a pcr this morning but a load came available at midday. Keep trying!

Summersdreaming · 29/12/2021 15:55

Dd should isolate, you don't have to unless you get symptoms. Ideally you should lft test daily but you can't magic them up so carry on until (if/when) you get any symptoms.

Troublesometooth · 29/12/2021 15:55

If you are UK there is no obligation to isolate unless you have symptoms.

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2021 15:59

so I can go out? as in uk and don't have symptoms

OP posts:
CoedenNadolig · 29/12/2021 16:02

If you are in England seems you don't have to isolate if you don't have symptoms. So yes you can go out.

So you could keep trying for a PCR test local for DD or just isolate her for 10 days, and then you only need to isolate if you have symptoms it looks like.

Maybe see if any pharmacies have any LFT on your travels 🤷🏻‍♀️

PrivateHall · 29/12/2021 16:03

OP as I said, it depends where you are in the UK - please just look up local guidelines like I suggested!

Troublesometooth · 29/12/2021 16:03

Yes you can, as long as you are double vaccination. If not you need to isolate as a close symptom.

The only vaccinated people who need to isolate are those with symptoms awaiting PCR results, or those who test positive.

Troublesometooth · 29/12/2021 16:04

Sorry by UK I am assuming England.

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2021 16:08

Im triple vaccinated, my last vaccine being 5 December

I did on the way home, as dd rang when I was out

nowhere had any, they stick notes on the door - so no chemists have any

Keep checking the gov website. I couldn’t get a PCR this morning, but appointments came online at lunchtime and I managed to get one for tomorrow morning - it’s not my nearest site (about 30 miles away) but it was the first available slot.

Same with the LTFs, last week I found checking early morning (about 6am) and I managed to order some then.

mejon · 29/12/2021 16:20

I've just ordered a box of LFTs. I'm testing daily as I was in contact with a positive case in work last Thursday. Tried around 20 minutes ago and was showing as none available but got through straight away this time. Helps if you register first so you don't end up having to input your data everytime which is frustrating if you eventually get to 'none left' notification.

Namechangeforthis88 · 29/12/2021 16:23

@Troublesometooth why do people do that? In Scotland you do have to isolate if you're a close contact. There were no PCR slots available this morning but an hour or two later there were plenty. But why jump in and say something when you're wrong?

amicissimma · 29/12/2021 16:30

As PP say, you don't actually have to isolate but are advised to do an LFT every day. Not much help if you can't find any! The length of time you do this is a bit confusing:
" - take an LFD test every day for 7 days, or until 10 days since your last contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19 if this is earlier.

  • take this daily test before you leave the household for the first time that day."

For LFTs if you keep looking on the gov website at random intervals you will probably hit a time when they have some available to post out to you (not necessarily in the small hours of the morning, people on MN were reporting striking lucky yesterday afternoon). Also try phoning your local libraries - after a lengthy cycle ride I found one some distance away who had them.

PCRs are better done a few days after your first contact with a positive person as it's unusual to test positive soon after contact. And it seems to be the same trick with booking the tests - just keep looking online.

catfunk · 29/12/2021 17:05

Op have you looked on gov. Uk?
You've got some good advice on here but also some incorrect advice - why not just look on the official website rather than asking strangers ?

because it doesn't give me the tips and tricks on the government website - and the people on here have given some great tips and tricks to getting lft

ive managed to secure some lft from the local library round the corner, thanks to @amicissimma
