Concerned with booster

I'm double jabbed and am booked in to get the booster on Friday but have started to get cold feet.
Ever since I heard about the booster, I've had quite an uneasy feeling about it and after reading on here about many people getting heart problems (pain, palpitations, myocarditis etc) I'm completely freaking out and doubting whether I should get it.

If you've had the booster, have you had any heart problems? Is it really as common as I'm reading about?

(Fuck the daily mail)

Remember vaccines are a weak version of the disease, therefore any side effects that occur from the vaccine would most likely also occur from the disease.

They are diluted versions to try and stop these side effects from happening as it’s less dangerous than getting the concentrated disease. But of course side effects can still occur.

Houseofvelour · 26/12/2021 21:35

@CrumpledCrumpet

No heart issues caused by the vaccine but I do have a heart condition caused by having covid (pre vaccines).
I'm so sorry. If you don't mind my asking, how has your heart been affected?

I'm not the poster you asked but I developed inappropriate sinus tachycardia after having covid. Still have it nearly 2 years later.

You should talk to your GP as well

Nanoo1234 · 26/12/2021 22:18

Several people I know have felt quite to very unwell after the booster.( a couple just had sore arm) .. no one I know has had any side effects.
I too , for different reasons , am.booster wary.
Was unwell after first.jab for a couple of weeks, I had delta and was really ill and took 8 weeks to.recover.
Some people wd think it s good to get the booster , but am hesitant as feel like my system is only just recovering.

Catkitkat · 26/12/2021 23:14

Family friend had to be monitored in hospital following his booster, he had some concerning symptoms (heart palpitations and chest pain), healthy male in his forties.

A friend was very swollen (face, hands, feet) after her moderna booster. Took about a week to resolve

Others have had the usual flu like symptoms

Not the mRNA vaccines. That’s not how they work

It’s a similar risk each time - but myocarditis is very rare, mostly younger men (and don’t vigorously exercise after the jab!). Myocarditis is much more common if you do get Covid.

I am pro mitigations, pro taking Covid seriously, pro vaccination. However I too get quite nervous, nearly walked out of the booster centre! Had Moderna. I always get reactions, which I did, but I was fine and now I really feel like I did the right thing.

We have only 30% or lower (if AZ) protection against Omicron, going up to 70/80% with the booster.

So a really massive difference. Do it!

bluejelly · 27/12/2021 00:30

Nobody I know has had any issues with booster other than a sore arm. It really is extremely safe (and much safer than bad Covid)

I’m always intrigued when people say it’s safe. The one thing we don’t have at all is long term safety data, so let’s be honest, none of us know might happen further down the line (I’m fully vaccinated myself by the way)
Numnumcookie · 27/12/2021 01:39

I have a mild heart condition and had no problems with my heart after all 3 jabs.

Just found out I've got Covid - Covid I have had a few brief moments of tachycardia. Very glad I had the jabs. I imagine I would be a lot worse without them.

GarlandsinGreece · 27/12/2021 02:03

I’m also on the fence about having the booster, but that’s because I was diagnosed with Lyme in October, and while my GP said go ahead, my Lyme doctor wants me to wait until I’m more stable. I’m really conflicted. I’m double vaccinated with Pfizer.

Also, my husband had Covid last month—sniffles and fatigue—and the strange thing is I didn’t catch it, despite having sex with him twice before we figured out the symptoms were Covid and not a common cold.

Mocara · 27/12/2021 02:46

Are you serious ! Your having doubts because of all the stuff you've read on mumsnet ! Well lord help us ,if thats the calaber of thinking thats behind getting your booster were all doomed !
A word to the wise if you have a medical condition that needs to be considered speak to a medical professional not a flaming mumsnetter , honestly I despair.

Thievesoil · 27/12/2021 08:19

I have a couple of MN friends banned for life for speaking about it on here

I was very surprised as I think only by open discussion do we gather support

OP there are risks with covid and there are risks with boosters and we don’t have numbers for either. I think it’s about assessing risk for you in conjunction with your medical expert if you have one

PAFMO · 27/12/2021 08:25

@Thievesoil

You have a couple of friends, or you're quoting the deleted and hopefully also banned for life dangerous lying anti-vaxxer?

Just to clarify?

JassyRadlett · 27/12/2021 08:25

We do know that it’s basically unheard of for any vaccine to have side effects that aren’t evident within a matter of weeks, rather than months or years.

So while it isn’t impossible that there might be an undetected long term side effect that takes more than a year to become known, based on understanding of the biological mechanisms and the history of vaccines, there is a strong degree of confidence that it is very, very unlikely.

oneglassandpuzzled · 27/12/2021 08:27

All five members of my family have had the booster.
No heart issues.

Thiswayorthatway · 27/12/2021 08:28

2 x AZ then Moderna for me, all fine

CrumpledCrumpet · 27/12/2021 09:26

I don’t have a formal diagnosis yet @Houseofvelour but it sounds very similar to this. I’ve got a whole range of post-viral symptoms nearly 2 years on.
scandikate · 27/12/2021 09:32

No heart problems but on the day of the booster I had a really upset stomach and it's still not gone back to normal. It's probably just a coincidence as I've not heard anyone else mention it. Am feeling really bloated all the time and have a stomachache whenever I eat. Obviously better than heart problems but annoying.

RedRobyn2021 · 27/12/2021 11:08

I had mine on Tuesday and I was absolutely fine

I get the anxiety, I've had it every time I've gone for the vaccine. I don't think you have anything to be afraid of though.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 27/12/2021 11:20

Go to your appointment and discuss your concerns with a health professional. You can make a decision on the day.

Houseofvelour · 27/12/2021 13:46

Looks like I won't be having my booster for now anyway. I've just had a positive LFT. 🤦‍♀️

@Houseofvelour, hope you are ok and feel better soon.

Guacamole001 · 27/12/2021 18:02

I had my booster last week with just a sore arm a few days plus felt chilly the first afternoon.

There were more side effects from the previous two vaccines. Piece of cake. 58 if that helps you.
