@Mistressiggi

Whole classes won't be isolating in Scotland with a positive case, not even those right next to the pupil, the will still be deemed low risk contacts. Someone on a sleepover would be high risk. Main change being if someone in the household has Covid the rest need to isolate.
Are you sure, what was the point of reintroducing Bubbles and no mixing in the playgrounds?
VikingOnTheFridge · 26/12/2021 19:26

@Againstmachine

Not really the same thing. It's a terrible law, and for someone supposedly left wing it's inexcusable.

Not really left wing can be as totalarian as the right, and Drakeford has got drunk on power.

Of course, but the left are supposed to be pro worker. This legislation is not.
Claudethecat · 26/12/2021 19:29

Looks as though Johnson is going to resist introducing more measures for now:

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/26/boris-johnson-to-examine-hospital-data-before-decision-on-covid-rules

Who knows whether it is the right or wrong move. I hope it is the right move and that Wales and Scotland have over-reacted, as the alternative is not pretty to contemplate.

Againstmachine · 26/12/2021 19:39

Not really the left aren't pro worker, it was the workers in Poland who brought down the soviets

That isn't really relevant to modern day British politics though.

The point is that this policy goes against what Drakeford is supposed to stand for. Whether you think the left are a pro worker party or not isn't the point.

Againstmachine · 26/12/2021 20:11

It has relavance as this is what we are being pushed too

Mistressiggi · 26/12/2021 20:45

@Lockdownbear that might be the case in primary, sorry.
But I know secondaries have not gone back to the fixed seating plans, measuring who is within 2m for contact tracing purposes. Not as of the end of term anyway and I've seen no guidance suggesting this is changed.

User135644 · 26/12/2021 20:54

@sashagabadon

I no longer believe the mantra that “earlier” restrictions means “shorter” restrictions. That has never been true of Scotland for example or Wales for that matter. It seems to me the opposite is just as true if not more true.
Scotland and Wales have been very cautious throughout though, whereas England only bring in restrictions when left with little choice.

Scotland have been in positions when they could have loosened restrictions quicker, but were chasing zero covid or whatever.

I don't know, I just know the last few days of term Bubbles were reintroduced, and kids had to stay with their own class at playtime.

Maybe secondary haven't because the poor kids are still masked up. I really really feel for them. Masks all day and teenage skin must be awful.

Lockdownbear · 27/12/2021 09:36

Whole classes no longer need to self-isolate when a pupil tests positive, with only the closest contacts of positive cases required to test and isolate

@sashagabadon

I think Scotland, wales and NI have jumped the gun and it’ll make it harder for the public to trust their judgment in future ( if necessary). But it’s also good as it’ll mean we can see if these policy restrictions are really necessary as we can compare between the nations now which we couldn’t do as easily before. If they weren’t/ aren’t necessary it’ll make it harder to justify imposing them ever again.
Harder to trust than boris????? Give over. I'm in Wales and I'm much happier with the way drakeford has lead this than boris!!!!!! What a stupid comment
Lockdownbear · 27/12/2021 09:44

Have kids in Wales been masked 😷 up in schools all day for 18mths,?

GiveMeNovocain · 27/12/2021 09:53

@ballsdeep you're pleased with drakeford putting untested people into care homes? For not having adequate supplies of ppe? For closing schools for longer than England? For taping off non essentials in stores? For having fines for workers who go into offices without reasonable excuse? For stopping outside events of more than 50, even if over acres like light trails? For refusing to publish the evidence for the latest restrictions? He's been absolutely shit

Smallkeys · 27/12/2021 09:58

Yesterday I would have said some restrictions but based on today’s headlines it’s going to be some guidance nothing else.

ElectraBlue · 27/12/2021 10:04

No.

Johnson knows he is toast if he takes another step towards more restrictions as the Tories will finish him if he does...

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/12/2021 10:06

Nicola also sent untested people to care homes which is why it spread like wildfire in there so she’s no better

Smallkeys · 27/12/2021 10:15

I think it’s fair to say they have all been better than Boris and have a cronies the amount shenanigans and rule breaking from that lot is appalling. I would have thought Boris would be out regardless but he will probably come up smelling of roses again

That's not roses you can smell. They all stink of horse manure
GiveMeNovocain · 27/12/2021 10:29

And they all stink of it

VikingOnTheFridge · 27/12/2021 10:32

Well the other three have thus far managed to avoid the public finding out they attended multiple illegal parties during lockdown, so I suppose that's something. It's always better when in charge of a country if you can avoid making it completely blatant that the rules don't apply to you.

I do think the current £60 fines for employees in Wales are a strong contender for the shittest piece of covid related legislation across the home nations so far, though. In a crowded field.

Mistressiggi · 27/12/2021 10:36

@Lockdownbear you know it's not really accurate to say secondary pupils have been masked for 18 months.
After first lockdown, we returned without masks in classrooms. They were worn in corridors, teachers wore them if they walked around the classroom. Couple of months of this. Then the tier system came in, in top tier (where I was) seniors/teachers started wearing masks in class, but S1 -3 did not. Then another lockdown. Then we returned with everyone in masks. So absolutely, from Easter last till now masks are worn throughout secondary.
I don't understand why the teacher standing right at the front can't remove the mask to teach. When I was at church on Christmas Eve we all wore masks, except the minister (who had a mic as well - wish I had that!)

Smallkeys · 28/12/2021 23:06

@VikingOnTheFridge the wee Wales guy has lost the plot ...
