There is more political motivation behind moves in Scotland and Wales than their is science.
Lots of flag waving look how much better we are, sod the fact the economy is shot to pieces, along with peoples MH. And trust that anything, events, gigs, holidays, shows, etc may or may not happen.

Anyone planning a summer holiday, or summer music events will be better to book south of the border.

I'm in Scotland but have stopped listening- what's changed for us?

Back to 1m SD in cafes, and table service, limited spectators at football etc. Just the usual pish
Lockdownbear · 26/12/2021 15:21

Bubbles back in schools and nurseries too

Stuffin · 26/12/2021 15:28

I hope he doesn't follow the other DNs.

Interesting the differences in approach though as I have completely changed our uk holidays from Wales and Scotland this year and now 2022 to England only because they seem to want to keep restrictions going indefinitely.

Lockdownbear · 26/12/2021 16:47

Good move @Stuffin I don't blame you. We booked England last year for the same reasons.

I think if I was wanting to see any big concerts or festivals I'd book England.

I really feel for Scottish tourist places but Scotgov just doesn't seem to care. Death by a thousand cuts.

Againstmachine · 26/12/2021 17:01

Not really the same thing. It's a terrible law, and for someone supposedly left wing it's inexcusable.

Not really left wing can be as totalarian as the right, and Drakeford has got drunk on power.

Terrible shame isn't it as I love the highlands but this has really put me off holidaying there.

Kshhuxnxk · 26/12/2021 17:17

@Lockdownbear ahh I see. Thank you!

Nicola will still blame the English for it. She seems unable to take responsibility for her own mistakes which are many.

Nightclubs are also closed for 3 weeks. I'm sure their are other things too I just can't remember all of it.

I've no doubt that England will get over omicron, ditch the masks and social distancing by late spring meanwhile Scotland will still be masked up and kids still not able to have a school assembly or nursery graduation.

MarshaBradyo · 26/12/2021 17:35

Is Scotland reintroducing furlough for affected sectors?

And by bubbles does that mean close contacts isolate and cases can send the bubble home?

MarshaBradyo · 26/12/2021 17:36

In terms of op I hope not.

I guess this week will be when we find out more

GiveMeNovocain · 26/12/2021 17:41

Drakeford still hasn't published any evidence for his restrictions. He refuses to have a welsh inquiry into his decisions. He's completely unaccountable and after voting Labour my whole life I'm disgusted in him

Lockdownbear · 26/12/2021 17:42

No furlough, despite people effectively being put out of work, at pantomimes, and loads of other shows / sports plus the nightclubs - no money for it - so basically tough shit for those involved!!!

Yes classes back to isolating if a positive case in class, or at least i think that's the purpose of re introducing bubbles, and it's still 10 days not the 7 in England.

MarshaBradyo · 26/12/2021 17:52

Oh no, that’s really tough on people Lockdownbear

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/12/2021 18:44

Force closing workplaces with no furlough system in place really is disgusting.

R0tational · 26/12/2021 18:47

Isnt it too late for all these rules ... omicron has already spread like wildfire, so whats the point now

Againstmachine · 26/12/2021 18:49

Is Scotland reintroducing furlough for affected sectors?

Nope they aren't because they need funding from Westminster to do that, in the SNPs mind that is Westminster's fault even though the SNP shut them down.

User135644 · 26/12/2021 18:57

I think Scotland, wales and NI have jumped the gun

We'll just have to wait and see.

If we do end up restrictions in England then not putting them earlier could lead to needing them for longer (which is happened in the previous waves).

Hopefully they won't be needed.

Lockdownbear · 26/12/2021 19:02

@User135644 at no point in the last two years has England been slower at relaxing restrictions than Scotland.

Universities are still predominantly online and secondary kids have been wearing masks for a year and a half.

Our covid figures are not any better than England's but people's MH and resilience is really worn down.

sashagabadon · 26/12/2021 19:08

I no longer believe the mantra that “earlier” restrictions means “shorter” restrictions. That has never been true of Scotland for example or Wales for that matter.
It seems to me the opposite is just as true if not more true.

Mistressiggi · 26/12/2021 19:11

Whole classes won't be isolating in Scotland with a positive case, not even those right next to the pupil, the will still be deemed low risk contacts. Someone on a sleepover would be high risk. Main change being if someone in the household has Covid the rest need to isolate.

Banning 5k parkruns in Wales will really sort that pesky virus out. Keeping fit outdoors is sooo hazardous to health Hmm

Absolutely my local parkrun had 125 Christmas day.

It's a health event and is just paranoid to be honest.
