Are you concerned about omicron risk if you've just had covid.

We've all just had covid. I assumed delta given our symptoms and area of the country where there's not many cases. Symptoms have been relatively mild but the isolation has been hell. Two dc with sen has been draining.

Would you be concerned about omicron after just getting covid? Because it's being said that delta isn't protecting against omicron?

I know omicron is said to be mild but I really don't want to go through all this again! 😪

A relative of mine we are meant to be seeing over Christmas has been exposed. She lives in london but visiting here. she's a teacher and over half her class had covid last week, she's fine so far and by the time we see her it's been a week past exposure but I'm still concerned.

My in laws - her parents are also anti covid people, not really believing in the virus. Mil has also told us she had a cough and didn't bother with a test because she didn't have w fever 😷 I know non covid coughs are rife too but you still need to test! None of us had a fever with covid.

Nope I’m not worried. I assume I had delta. It was unpleasant at times but I doubt anything will top the ?Swine flu I had in 99 - HELL

Triple jabbed, slim, as healthy as I can be..worrying solves nothing. Take sensible precautions. I suspect isolations will eventually become a thing of the past.

I get that. I'm not really worried about the illness if mild, our covid has been pretty mild. I'm scared of the isolation period again - loss of earnings, losing my mind at home 😅

I have to wait til Jan for booster too!

Yes I am concerned and we’re as cautious as we were before we had covid a couple of weeks ago. We missed our boosters though

HelloDulling · 23/12/2021 15:38

One of DD’s school friends has had it twice in under two months, presumably Delta then Omicron. She’s not esp ill with it, but it’s not much fun.

VitaminA · 23/12/2021 15:40

I'm not worried because what's the point? I don't think about it much. I survived being quarantined with young kids once, I can do it another time!

Siameasy · 23/12/2021 15:46

Yeah the isolation that’s depressing. At least it is now seven days.
Don’t do any asymptomatic testing (are you obliged to with work? Do they actually check?)
I’ve been trying to boost my immune system I have no idea if it works but it feels like something I can try to control. Vitamin D, iron and eating loads of garlic et. I am rattling with pills and stink

DumplingsAndStew · 23/12/2021 15:48

We've not had it as far as I know, but my parents did a few months ago (both double vac, have had boosters since). Both quite poorly, one more than the other (admitted to hospital twice).

They are aware they could still contract the Omicron variant, and are being cautious - though some restrictions are still in place here anyway - but not letting it rule their lives. E.g wearing masks, limiting contacts, regular LFT.

kessiebird · 23/12/2021 15:53

I'm two months post Delta (I presume) and had the booster. I'm out and about with friends and immediate family who I live with, taking precautions, mask wearing etc. Not seeing 89 year mother until cases drop unless you count sitting in her garage tomorrow drinking tea and biscuits and shouting into the kitchen as she's a bit deaf as well as CEV.

I would like not to catch it again, as we all got it together which was stressful, but at the same time I'd like to enjoy life. I'm 49 and fit and healthy.

KylieKoKo · 23/12/2021 15:54

I tested positive for covid on 29th November, no idea what variant. I went out last Saturday and everyone else I was with has tested positive. I'm doing daily lateral flows, all negative and I have no symptoms. I'm assuming I've avoided it due to immunity from my recent infection.

We missed out boosters too. Have them re booked for jan as will be 28 days by then but keep getting relentless texts from my doctors telling me to book it 🤷‍♀️

Thanks all. As above my concern isn't really with getting ill again. Whatever variant we've just had was relatively mild (maybe it was omicron, who knows as our symptoms varied between each person). But I really don't want to go through this again soon. It took just under 3 weeks to get through us all 😪 Dp caught it first and dd tested positive on his last day of isolation. I only tested positive a couple days before her!

I personally know of two re-infection cases this week, so definitely possible to get it again after having had the delta variant.

AD80 · 23/12/2021 16:22

Not good! I can't say what variant we had. All 4 of us had different varying symptoms, one no symptoms at all. Some would suggest omicron and others delta!!

We are in the same boat here. Not long out of isolation and, given how long it took to work it’s way round us (DC tested positive on last day of DP’s isolation, I was in the middle), we are assuming Delta. V worried about the conflicting info re immunity to Omicron in our situation - of course I don’t want to be ill again, DP and D.C. were mild but I was flattened but predominantly because we really really don’t want to isolate again so soon!

Bellybutton88 · 23/12/2021 16:25

Yes i wouldn't want to go through isolation again. The whole anxiety, not gonna know what's happen, being away from kids, etc.. I'm going to be careful from now until i get my booster

Lily999888 · 23/12/2021 16:33

Of the two cases I know of, the original cases were definitely delta, as several weeks before omicron on the scene. Both people have quite mild symptoms this time compared to the first time, which is good news. Not sure where you are but, if you are in England, at least the isolation period has been reduced if you test negative on days 6 & 7, which is a better situation than before.

Dozer · 23/12/2021 16:35

Yes, am concerned about DC testing positive and having to stay home again, as seems likely DC can be re infected.

Not concerned to the extent won’t do stuff though.

Nerdygirl · 23/12/2021 17:42

No I am not , just had covid and omicron is mild. 2/3 of Hospital admissions with omicron are for something else so many may barely notice it. Tim Spector is saying half of colds are omicron . Why all the fear? It’s extremely sad to see the neurosis because of the way this has been handled by the government . Where was the fear and the protection of the vulnerable with flu? Most people didn’t give it a second thought

AD80 · 23/12/2021 17:54

@Nerdygirl I probably should have worded it better. I'm not really concerned over the risk of getting ill. It's more that I cannot face 2/3 weeks of all being inside again. Dc have sen so isolation has hit us hard. It's really taken a toll on mine and dp's relationship 😪 I can't face jr all anytime soon! Also impacted us hugely financially due to being on ssp!

To the pp who advised not to test if work aren't checking ... WTAF???

Juniper68 · 23/12/2021 18:05

Scratchy throat is the main symptom of omicron. Did you have that OP?

Juniper68 · 23/12/2021 18:06

@AntennaReborn

Probably because it's mild. We didn't used to test for colds.
DukeofEarlGrey · 23/12/2021 18:14

Yes, because even though I am triple jabbed I still caught Delta and it was far worse than I expected. I am still fatigued weeks later and no way do I want Omicron to top it all off. Before Delta I was careful but not concerned.

AD80 · 23/12/2021 18:18

@Juniper68

Well. That's a very good question actually. Dp had covid and I had symptoms but tested negative on both pcr and lft's for a few days before getting a positive. When I was still testing negative I had a scratchy throat but it was fine by the time I tested positive with some new symptoms. I'm not sure if I had two viruses back to back or it was too soon to be positive at first.

But then again, I'm prone to scratchy throat due to acid reflux and other health issues. Not uncommon for me to have a dried scratchy throat most of the winter so really hard to say!

PollyIndia · 23/12/2021 18:39

I just had COVID and I wasn’t scared of catching it before and I certainly am not now. I think i had delta. Most people I know with omicron say it’s barely a cold. Also my friend who had covid in October went to get a pcr test before she saw her mum this week and they said no, not for 90 days. So how could you even know you had it? Getting boosted early jan and I’m done. I’m not going to test anymore.
