When will the booster side effects go?

I have had side effects from the moderna vaccine and feel really ill.

Headache, chills, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and insomnia.

I had the vaccine on Monday and it started a few hours later. I do not feel any let up atm. I am cycling Co-codramol and ibuprofen.

My DH was suppose to have the booster today but has cancelled it as we have 3 children and can't both be ill together.

Has anyone felt like this and got better quick?

I was quite unwell for a few days. More worrying, my health stats from my Apple Watch a few weeks later are still considerably worse. Blood oxygen down 5%, resting heart rate up by 10, etc.

@Jobseeker19

The idea of a fourth jab. I can't.

They need to admit it only lasts 3 months and let people decide.

I can't feel like this for a week every 3 months. Are they going to pay me for time off work?

This !!

I feel as unwell with this as I did when I actually had Covid. And to find out the booster is only good for 10 weeks......I am not getting another one.

BunsyGirl · 24/12/2021 09:49

Not the booster, but I was I’ll for 9-10 weeks when I had my first AZ jab. I’ve delayed my booster until after Christmas as I was so worried about being ill over Christmas. I had Covid early November so I’m not particularly worried about getting it again.

howcanibegintodeal · 24/12/2021 09:53

@Jobseeker19

I wonder if getting it on your period prolongs the side effects?
I wondered that as I’ve had my period both times and felt absolutely horrendous after . Period type pain and severe diarrhoea and nausea again this morning . Agree re fourth one, I can’t have this every couple of months, it’s bloody awful .

When I had the Pfizer vaccine the first time I felt ill for three weeks. Didn’t react to the second and felt like crap for a day after the booster (Pfizer). Interestingly did you have AZ for your main vaccine?

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 24/12/2021 11:48

Has anyone experienced back/lower right side pain after Pfizer?
I had my booster on Weds and have had a very sore arm and swollen armpit since, but been generally ok until today. Now I have the most horrendous pain wrapping from the right lower back around to the front of my abdomen. Also feeling quite chilled. I don’t want to be ill for Christmas! 😩

Jobseeker19 · 24/12/2021 11:54

Yes, I had AZ for first one had side effects on the night and the next day then fine. 2nd jab, no side effects.

Now this one I still have a head ache, nausea, hot flushes and dizziness but today is the first day I haven't taken pain killers so I'm hoping its wearing off.

I'm a bit pissed off to here that protection wears off after 10 weeks!

They need to redefine the vaccine as a temporary protection jab or something. If it takes a few weeks for the jab to take effects and then wears off how many weeks are we really protected?

I think it should be included in the annual winter flu jab and encouraged as a booster for CEV but not pressured for everyone.

Boris said in his speech that regular appointments would be delayed so that everyone can get jabbed and so that the appointments can carry on in the new year.
Is he going to halt the NHS for every new booster?

Sorry I'm ranting but I feel like I've been missold this vaccine just for a fourth one to appear.

@Jobseeker19 my husband also just mentioned the 10 week protection time. I’m so annoyed! I’ve always been super pro vax but getting fed up with feeling like crap afterwards. I was ill for a week after the first AZ!

ichundich · 24/12/2021 12:05

Mine lasted 24h, although my glands on the side where I had the jab are still slightly up. I had Moderna after AZ as 1st & 2nd.

Clickncollect · 24/12/2021 12:09

Well after me thinking earlier that I had Moderna side effects, it’s turns out I actually have covid! I wonder if I feel so rough due to a combination of the vaccine side effects and covid itself.

ipreferbooks · 24/12/2021 13:37

I had my moderna booster (after x2 pfizer jabs) on Tuesday earlier this week. Didn't have any side effects for my last jabs apart from sore arm.

Side effects started in the evening - had chills, nausea, headache, aching, slightly swelled and red sore arm where they did it.
Wednesday and yesterday I had side effects lasted all day and both days. Paracetomol definitely helped.

Woke up this morning and they seem to have gone thank goodness.

Both my parents had similar side effects to me as well - had x2 pfizer and recently moderna as well.

Yes! But had moderna

It appears that the side effects of these 'boosters' are worse than the cold symptoms a lot of people get from catching omicron (even the unboosteted)!

Deadcanary1 · 24/12/2021 14:35

Me and dh have cancelled our booster. We had covid recently, and will rely on antibodies from that. I may get a booster in a few months, but it's becoming clear that they don't last very long. I'm.not prepared to keep getting vaccines for anything, particularly something which seems to be a mild virus. Personally I've had worse cokds. Sorry you're feeding rubbish. Hope you get better soon.

Thievesoil · 24/12/2021 23:38

Two friends are seven days in and feel rotten

I have just had omicron and it was a day of a headache

It’s a no from me

DistrustfulDinosaur · 25/12/2021 00:57

The jab is only likely to offer a few weeks protection at best for the next few years until the virus is better understood and more effective vaccines can be developed. It's unfortunate that it was presented as 'get your jab for life to immediately go back to how it was before'. This was never going to be the case even if every single person got vaccinated at the earliest opportunity. Imo it's also quite damaging to present being jabbed as being the only 'safe' way to prevent passing on the virus to others, this early on in a pandemic. Personally, at this stage, I'd prefer the money to be spent on supporting those that are high risk (with social care, shopping deliveries etc), rather than continously vaccinating younger healthier people who have limited regular contact with the vulnerable.

It's all about weighing up the risks really. Do you live or work with someone who is especially vulnerable and likely to get seriously ill from the virus?

I hope you're felling better soon OP.

Jobseeker19 · 25/12/2021 15:28

UPDATE:
I did another pcr test yesterday and just recieved a text to say I'm positive.
I guess I had covid before I was jabbed but it didn't show in the other tests.

Sorry to read that @Jobseeker19 very similar to me - I took a lateral flow on Wednesday morning, had the booster Wednesday afternoon and felt ill on Thursday assuming vaccine side effects but lateral flow on Friday morning was positive. I believe I’ve felt so rough as a double whammy of vaccine side effects plus covid ordeal.
Get well soon!

Jobseeker19 · 25/12/2021 16:13

Thank you for your kind words
