Has anyone managed to avoid Omicron in the household?

My DH has it and is on day four. The rest of us (me and three DC) are still testing negative. But I can't believe it won't get us eventually...our Christmas hinges on it so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I've had my booster...

Avoided covid full stop
Work has people who have had it that I’ve been close too and it hasn’t been passed on, commute to and from work on packed train, dc at school been around people and not got it, DS at work with people who got it and he hasn’t. Touch lots of wood

BlackCatz · 22/12/2021 12:58

Loads of people will have

endingintiers · 22/12/2021 13:03

Don't know if it's omicron as they're not testing every sample, but my son is +ve for covid in last week. Four in the household, he's the only one who's caught it after 6 days of testing (as confirmed by PCR and daily lateral flow). One other unvaxxed child and two triple vaxxed adults.

actiongirl1978 · 22/12/2021 13:05

Yes, my DH and DC haven't caught it despite me not isolating within the house. I had symptoms by Sunday 12th and I'm out of isolation today and we are all out and about again.

Both DC and me had delta in August and one DC had first jab in November so possibly they have great immune reaponses.

Hmmph · 22/12/2021 13:17

“Overall, 18% (141) of Omicron index cases gave rise to a secondary household case, compared to 10% (11,593) of Delta index cases.“

I hope that gives you some more hope/ reassures you

Svara · 22/12/2021 13:23

Haven't been unwell at all in 20 months. Assume I'm still immune. Neither of us have ever tested positive as tests weren't available at the beginning.

Notverygrownup · 22/12/2021 13:30

Yup, two of us have had it for the last 10 days, third adult son (with asthma, so we have been cautious) has avoided it. We have self isolated upstairs. He is downstairs.

We have been scrupulous about not going down to minimise the risk. We have a coolbox upstairs with breakfast and lunch things in. He delivers the evening meal to the top of the stairs, wearing a mask. We do washing up upstairs and have held onto the clean plates, so that he doesn't touch stuff from us.

Hope that helps

ChirpyChirp · 22/12/2021 13:30

None of us have had it yet. I work in a public facing role. One DC at secondary whose two best friends have had it. One DC at primary with high case numbers. We all regularly test (both LFT and PCR if we have symptoms).

Frazzled2207 · 22/12/2021 13:35

Yes about a month ago ds got it and then dh.
I and another ds didn’t and we made no effort to distance ourselves. In fact I spent one night sleeping between symptomatic ds and dh.

WtfHuh1122 · 22/12/2021 13:59

I don't know if it was Omicron but it was a positive case in my London household and they're now 13 days past symptom onset and out of isolation. I'm still testing negative on lateral flows plus my PCR I took was negative. Giving the timing it sounds like it was probably Omicron but can't be sure. Seems like I have avoided it somehow?

Delatron · 22/12/2021 14:29

I think some people spread it more (super spreaders) and others much less. So people shed different viral loads.

Soccermum13 · 22/12/2021 16:15

That's all very reassuring, thank you.
Annoyingly, we mistook DH's first day of symptoms for booster side effects (same day) so I was with him in the house all that day. If it hadn't been for that I might have believed I could've got away with it.
But from your posts it sounds like it does happen so I am hopeful the negative tests can continue!
Thanks again everyone.

We're in the same position! The rest of us are negative and praying no one else gets it!

dontcallmelen · 22/12/2021 16:24

Ds positive result Sunday (double jabbed) we have both avoided it so far had our boosters about six weeks ago.

This is interesting, it's lower than I'd have expected for Omicron.

Nope 3/3 have it.

edwinbear · 22/12/2021 17:05

DD, DH and I have all tested positive. DD on day 6, DH and I on day 4, DS is still negative, I'm astounded. I can only think that maybe he's had it recently asymptomatically, recovered and we weren't aware. Although he's been tested regularly in line with school guidelines Confused - either that or he has the immune system of an ox.

Baxdream · 22/12/2021 17:13

What are peoples first signs? I have a banging headache (unusual for me) but still negative. 2 days since DS' positive

ClootieDumplings · 22/12/2021 17:14

DD tested positive last Friday, the rest of us ( 2 adults double jabbed and boosted, an 18 year old double jabbed and a 12 year old with one jab) have not caught it.

We have no idea though if she has omicron or another type of Covid as we have not been told.

TyotyaKlava · 22/12/2021 17:21

How do you find out what variant of COVID you have? My dd (4) caught it first on Thursday 9.12, tested positive on Monday 13.12. I got it next on Thursday 16.12, then my husband on Saturday 18.12, and finally my dd (7) on Monday 20.12. Not sure whether it’s omicron as test and trace people never specified that. How do we find out?

Soccermum13 · 22/12/2021 17:48

I'm not sure, I'm only assuming Omicron as he picked it up in London and based on the more head-cold type symptoms that I have read are more common with this variant. Also a much shorter incubation period (2-3 days)...I could be wrong though!

I feel slightly 'heady' though not an actual headache, am hoping it's psychosomatic as it's very easy to think yourself into symptoms when you're waiting for them to appear!

My DH's 'actual' first symptom was feeling tired, and generally below par (hence confusing it with booster side effects) followed by stuffy nose and sore throat, then occasional cough worse at night.

Baxdream - I have read that it can take til day 3 for lateral flows to pick up Omicron, so fingers crossed it's still negative for you tomorrow.

Well I might be tempting fate by posting this, but Dc and DH have just finished 10 days of isolation and so far, I'm still negative (daily morning lft) despite them very much being around me in the house and sharing a bed with DH! No kissing, sharing drinks, towels etc but otherwise carried on as normal at home and both had a mild but upper respiratory/ head cold like symptoms so assume it's omni.

I'm double jabbed but postponed my booster until next week as it was just when they got Covid and I was convinced I'd get it too. I will keep dong daily tests as we have family due to arrive Christmas Day that I wouldn't want to risk but feel by then I must have somehow dodged it.

Baxdream · 22/12/2021 19:14

@Soccermum13 I absolutely agree with it potentially psychosomatic! Exhaustion was the only symptom here so far, just wondering if adults are different!
