Panto tomorrow

Dingdong99 · 21/12/2021 21:03

We've got tickets as a large family group tomorrow to go to the panto

We've been looking forward to it and the kids are excited, but is it a bit reckless to go, just before Xmas and run the risk of ruining Xmas or even giving it to an older / more vulnerable relative?

WWYD?

I absolutely wouldn't go, but I'm massively risk averse. You will have a load of people on here shortly saying they would. If you are meeting older/vulnerable people later in the week then I think it's a big risk to them.

SoSickOfItNow · 21/12/2021 21:06

I wouldn’t fancy it myself but then I know 4 people (different families) who’ve just tested positive & they either haven’t been anywhere indoors or anywhere as busy as that!

allbartwo · 21/12/2021 21:06

I'd go, but then I've already been to a work party and a family gathering.

I'm not even a particularly social person.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 21/12/2021 21:10

I wouldn't. It's rife at the moment and one of you is bound to catch it

Siameasy · 21/12/2021 21:11

I would go! I have been to four Xmas parties.

MarcelineMissouri · 21/12/2021 21:11

I would go, in fact we went to one yesterday. It was brilliant, the kids loved it. As far as I could tell it was pretty much sold out.

Beamur · 21/12/2021 21:13

I decided not to go to one today. I'm in an area with currently fairly low levels of infection that is expected to rocket in a few days...so I figured I would do my bit to reduce the transmission and stayed at home.

Porfre · 21/12/2021 21:15

I would go.

I'm booked for in a couple of weeks.

I'm hoping it doesnt get cancelled

DolphinFC · 21/12/2021 21:16

You'd be inside with a large number of unvaccinated people who are eating sticky things with their fingers then touching everything whilst shouting and screaming.

I can't think of a worse place to be even without covid!

Toomuchtoodo · 21/12/2021 21:16

I wouldn’t go. DC just tested positive because I was too cavalier in thinking we’d take precautions and be fine going to an indoor venue. Our Christmas is ruined.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/12/2021 21:16

I’d go.
I’d let everyone we’re due to meet with know that we’d gone and keep up the daily LFTs and go from there.

DolphinFC · 21/12/2021 21:18

@Siameasy

I would go! I have been to four Xmas parties.
Will you be annoyed if your kid's class has to be sent home on January?
Largethighsbadeyes · 21/12/2021 21:18

I think it depends where you are. If you're in London then no I wouldn't but where I am case rates aren't through the roof and if I wasn't seeing extended family over Christmas then I would risk it.

LynxGiftsetAndSocks · 21/12/2021 21:19

nope i wouldn't go either

TiddleTaddleTat · 21/12/2021 21:20

Just cancelled ours. Was grateful to be offered a refund. Gutted though, but wouldn’t have felt comfortable indoors in a large group.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 21/12/2021 21:21

My boss gave me her panto tickets as decided it was too risky to go as she has elderly family members. We are end of the aisle, have no vulnerable family members and all the family members I'll be seeing have worked all through the pandemic, fully vaxd and boosted, the only person in the family to get it so far is Dd. I don't see it anymore risky as any other day at work or any of the other theatre trips I've done in the last few months.

If I had ill/elderly family members I'd be more cautious but I'm far more likely to get it from work (teacher) than sitting masked in the theatre.

Northernsoullover · 21/12/2021 21:21

I wouldn't but yes I am also risk averse, to a point. I have had a fine old autumn but had my last crowded gathering on the 10th just in case (basing it on a 5 day incubation). I would probably go out on the 24th thinking I'd probably be fine for the 25th. If you do go double mask..

bettertimesarecomingnow · 21/12/2021 21:23

@Porfre

I would go.

I'm booked for in a couple of weeks.

I'm hoping it doesnt get cancelled

We are booked for the 28th but it will be cancelled due to Scottish rules about indoor venues

I'm glad tho, don't fancy it now

EezyOozy · 21/12/2021 21:25

I went to one on Sunday , the kids loved it and I'm so glad I went ! Masks on throughout and boosted.

EezyOozy · 21/12/2021 21:27

I'm in rural Scotland with very low case numbers btw.

Dingdong99 · 21/12/2021 21:27

Interesting that it's about 50-50 on opinions!! I really can't decide

Dingdong99 · 21/12/2021 21:27

I'm in London is it's rife

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/12/2021 21:32

We went in a big family group last week. We’re all jabbed and had a great time. Wore our masks throughout and took hand gel. None of us have tested positive.

rainbowandglitter · 21/12/2021 21:33

I wouldn't go . I canceled something similar recently

Wellbythebloodyhell · 21/12/2021 21:34

Went to one at the weekend I'm very glad I did it was brilliant, most adults were masked and I think doors must have been open somewhere to circulate air because I was freezing but I definitely made the right choice to go. I'm triple jabbed and test 2-3 times a week, I've protected myself and take precautions not to pass anything on as best I can. Life needs to go on and these venues need people to continue using them in order to stay afloat.
