Do you know many who got covid since having third booster?

Hi, Just been wondering.....the stats say that about 70% chance not getting covid or symptomless once had booster (after 2 weeks ). Wondered if many still succumbed to covid despite having the booster?

OP posts:

@DrNo007

Yes lots of people; also people who have told me they didn’t get ill at all pre vaccines but now post vaccines they are getting colds, flu and covid.
Hmm 🤔
TyrannosaurusRegina · 22/12/2021 00:12

@prettymum

I had booster in Oct and started getting symptoms around Saturday.... so far cold like symptoms, cough, runny nose, itchy throat. Haven't lost taste or smell and no high temp or body aches so far.
Did the PCR test confirm if you were positive or negative for covid? I had similar symptoms, also generally felt awful for about 3 days, couldn't get out of bed. Must've been that bad cold that's going around as my PCR was negative.
LivinLaFeeder · 22/12/2021 00:18

Yep. Double vaxxed and booster. Positive LFT and PCR. Flu-like symptoms, short of breath, lost taste and smell. Banging headache and fatigue.

Me. Booster in early November. Avoided Covid so far, but tested positive on Sunday. Symptoms started Saturday, like a bad cold, runny nose, sore throat, achy, and a headache.
Currently feeling 90% back to full health.

edwinbear · 22/12/2021 01:31

DH and I, both boosted in October, both been pretty unwell with it, but obviously would have been much worse without it.

Furries · 22/12/2021 03:18

I’m fairly “relaxed” regarding anecdata about who has Covid after 2 or 3 vaccines.

If they’re not in hospital then, afaic, the jabs are doing their job. I’m more interested in how many end up in ICU or dying.

BoPeeple · 22/12/2021 07:35

@LazySundayPlease

I think the statistic is 70% protection against severe hospitalisation with omicron, it is not that effective at stopping any trace of covid causing symptoms/a positive test.
No, the wording is ‘against symptomatic disease’.
BoPeeple · 22/12/2021 07:36

If 30% of people who got Omicron were hospitalised we’d be in trouble!

BoPeeple · 22/12/2021 07:37

My point is, these percentages are from in vitro lab tests, not in real life populations. I think this thread shows that it’s nowhere near 70% protection.

And the lab tests were run by… Pfizer.

Why obviously?
SmallElephant · 22/12/2021 07:42

Yes I do but they are all symptomless (only picked up on routine testing for work, close contact etc).

rwalker · 22/12/2021 07:44

No I don't but of course people will all the vaccine does is take the edge off the illness . Stop people getting that ill they end up in hospital or dying.

whenwillthemadnessend · 22/12/2021 09:23

My friends husband was double backed but not had time to get booster. He caught it a few weeks back. Prob omicron
Was in bed for a week but is ok now. He is over 50

Mochacino · 22/12/2021 11:33

Can I clarify I am happy I was boostered and all before I was sick as I narrowly avoided hospital as it was. I would definitely have been admitted if I didn't have any protection. None of my close contacts contracted covid from me either which was very reassuring.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/12/2021 11:36

I know of 2 who currently have it and both were boosted over a month ago.
1 also tested positive during the early summer.
They’re feeling rotten but not acutely unwell.

Wrongaddress · 22/12/2021 11:41

Loads. I work in a hospital so everyone got boosters early. Staff are literally dropping like flies at the moment with a range of symptoms from none to being quite unwell

Blubells · 22/12/2021 11:41

Why obviously?

What I'd like to know is how the Pfizer Biontech boosters provide protection, given that they were developed to target the Alpha variant? Is it just a short term (2 months) boost to general antibody levels?

Yes. It’s a miracle, isn’t it? That the company providing the data that tells us we need the booster is the company that… sells the booster.

And then in a few months (I predict March) they will tell us we all have to have another booster that is specific to the current variant. Which will have been and gone by then.

If you’re not over 50 or CV then I’m honestly not sure what the point of this booster is.

It’s obviously working like a dream then!
Janus · 23/12/2021 11:28

My update - tested positive this morning, got my booster in November. Feel crap.

SergeiL · 23/12/2021 11:36

Yep me. When you order your tests, they only ask if you have been double jabbed. If they are using that for the stats, then the stats won’t show the situation. Does anyone know if they are linking positive cases through to the record that shows booster status?

Janus · 23/12/2021 11:43

@SergeiL good point, there nowhere to put your booster status. So I’ve ordered postal PCR for me and other family members, my daughter had her booster on Monday but I put the date of her second jab. Doesn’t make sense does it?

ferretface · 23/12/2021 11:45

I've had two contacts (one indoors and pre booster, one outdoors a few days post booster) and still negative and no symptoms.

I would love to know that too - how effective the booster actually is?!

Especially as it targets the original Alpha variant!

boysarethebest · 23/12/2021 12:59

Yep, me. Had covid March 2020, antibodies confirmed June that year and June this. Boosted mid October. Have had it since Sunday after contact last weds (contact also triple jabbed since October). Not as bad as the first time round when I was in bed for a week but if I wasn't ob leave I would have been phoning in sick and I feel bloody awful.
