NHs Text message confirming positive

46 replies

Vanillacronut · 21/12/2021 06:48

I have tested positive for covid. The message I have received from the NHS says that everyone I live with must self isolate for 10 days. It doesn’t say anything about exemption for those that have been double vaccinated and show no symptoms if they lateral flow for the set days. Does everyone really need to isolate? Does that mean that I have omicron as opposed to the Delta variant? I’m confused. My friends who are positive haven’t got that message about the whole household isolating. 😤

Both my children had that same follow up text message
We were never told if it was omicron either think they just haven't updated or worded it right.

actiongirl1978 · 21/12/2021 07:52

Ignore. If you read in more detail it talks about exemptions, which includes full vaccination + 7x days of neg LFTs., plus anyone under 18.

actiongirl1978 · 21/12/2021 07:54

I was positive last week, DH and DC have just done LFTs and carried on as normal.

None of them has caught it from me - omicron (had delta in August which 3 of us had in the house).

DH has stayed negative in the same house twice now.

@CheshireKitten123

If you are not sure ring 111 and check...
Don't ring 111, ring 119

I got the same yesterday (on behalf of DS). It contradicts his original text when he tested positive and the text I received from NHStracing. We’ve not been told which variant it is but I think DS has delta anyway - he had two of the classic symptoms, temp and cough, and his contact was 5 days before his symptoms started which is a bit long for omicron.

@actiongirl1978 can I ask have you had confirmation that it’s omicron?

actiongirl1978 · 21/12/2021 08:18

@DrunkenKoala no I haven't but it isaasicely different from my delta infection in late August.

This time was literally just a streaming cold/cough for about 5 days and I'm now fine with negative lfts - I've been doing workouts at home I've had so much energy.

My delta infection was debilatating and I was knocked for six for over a fortnight, lost taste and smell, felt nauseous, literally no energy to walk upstairs.

Pretty certain I caught this current infection in London on 10th December where I was in crowded pub, restaurant and train. Had symptoms 48hrs later.

So I've deduced that I do indeed have omicron.

Lollipop999 · 21/12/2021 08:18

I think the default position is that households have to isolate unless they are exempt (eg fully vaccinated or under 18).

When test and trace called us they said that the household had to isolate and get pcrs. This was back in September. I questioned it to them as I knew we were exempt as fully vaccinated and he said I needed to check he exemption list. It was a bit odd at the time but the whole call was to be honest.

SoupDragon · 21/12/2021 08:26

@SeasonFinale

If you read your whole text OP it goes on to say that people you live with only self isolate if they have symptoms.
Yes, this. It specifically refers to people who have symptoms.
DrunkenKoala · 21/12/2021 08:27

@actiongirl1978

Thank you, I was wondering if they were informing people which variant they had.

DS’s symptoms sound very similar to your delta symptoms and not what you’re suffering now.

Onehotmessiah · 21/12/2021 08:48

There aren’t any different rules fir Omicron now. It’s just a badly worded text I think. Anyone over 16?18? Who is not double vaxxed will need to isolate so it means those people who need to isolate should be isolating! They will have already told you the exemptions on track and trace or previous messages. You are doing everything right, try not to worry xxx

Namechangehereandnow · 21/12/2021 08:59

@Hesma

Read it again… it says if the people you live with get symptoms they have to isolate.
No it doesn’t - read it again ;-) …… the first paragraph says you and the people you live with continue to self isolate

I think it’s just an old, badly worded follow up text.

Just follow the guidance, which is for you to self isolate, household members to do daily lft’s.

ittakes2 · 21/12/2021 09:02

I think because its a follow up text and uses the word 'continue' they are referring to household members who had symptoms when you tested positive.

ifonly4 · 21/12/2021 09:04

Not sure what the current rules are, but a couple of weeks ago they did say you'd have to isolate if it was Omicron. Sequencing takes a while, so it would make sense to receive the text at a later date.

Sounds like you've been careful anyway, but if your DC have been mixing with others might be worth a PCR, that way if they happened to be positive, those they've been with can be alerted. It messes up Xmas, but most would want to keep their family and friends safe and avoid passing the consequences of isolating and illness onto them.

Testingprof · 21/12/2021 09:05

@Hesma

Read it again… it says if the people you live with get symptoms they have to isolate.
The second paragraph says make sure you and the people you live with continue to self isolate and then at the bottom it says that the people you live with will need to isolate for 10 days from onset of symptoms if they get them. So they could potentially need to isolate for 20 days...
AD80 · 21/12/2021 09:08

Mine didn't say this last week.

ToPlayOrNotToPlay · 21/12/2021 09:17

We had the same follow up message. It's just the standard government inability to communicate. Same as the line, you must isolate for 10 days, this includes the day of your test and the next 10 full days. So 11 days then!! The ability to create such confused messages is incredible!

PurpleDaisies · 21/12/2021 09:21

The guidance is here…

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

I think the text wording needs updating so it doesn’t sound like everyone is supposed to be self isolating.

Lokdok · 21/12/2021 09:27

This is correct for everyone - it says if they have symptoms.

Xmasprrssiehelp · 21/12/2021 09:46

I have friends who work on the covid apps etc (not for track and trace, NHS digital and contractors) and they literally find out changes to rules at the same time as the general population so it’s probably just something they haven’t found to changing yet Blush

It's always been 10 days following the result/symptom onset. Test/symptom day is day 0.
MarchingOnTogether · 21/12/2021 10:31

If others in your household need to isolate they will have been sent a text or email.
When me & my ds tested positive my OH had to isolate, then when dd tested positive he had to keep isolating until her 10th day...
