ds 12yrs just tested positive with Lft. Have ordered pcrs as cannot get tests done near us. Should he now stay in his room?
obviously don't want to get it but he is my son and I feel like he is all alone as rest of us still negative.
What have others done that has worked???

Absolutely not isolate him. I caught it from DS, but that's life.

The hyperbole on here is ridiculous. Cruel. Cold. Barbaric. Some people seem to have a very skewed idea of what these words actually mean. Christ Almighty, grab a bloody hold of yourselves. My DS would laugh in your faces if he thought you were using these words to describe me. He stayed happily in his room, shouting at his friends on group chat while they played Minecraft, did some schoolwork and read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. No cruelty that I could detect. If he had said he couldn't hack it, I'd have told him to come out and join us doing stuff he had no interest in. But there ya go. Different strokes for different folks.

@Sami544

he has asked to be in his room. I think a bit excited about us allowing xbox up there. Usually downstairs.

another questions for those who have dealt with this. After the pcr should we also do more lfts in 10days to see if still positive? Dh has said some articles are saying the new variants only lasts a week???

I did a PCR with them when their LFT's came back positive and I was negative. I did LFT's every day and did them every morning before work for 10 days afterwards just in case. I work front line so needed to make sure I was safe. Some days I did 2 a day just to make sure 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Unless you're both unvaccinated and haven't already had it, let him do what he likes. If you catch it, you've got a cold. It's airborne so locking it won't make much difference unless you hermetically seal him in and pass food through some sort of airlock.

My 10 year old DS had a positive lateral flow this weekend. He had a nightmare overnight and came into my bed for a cuddle. Can’t imagine not reassuring him and not letting him out of his room. He feels completely fine now and is bored already, has played with his siblings and if we all catch it it’s likely to be mild and we will deal with it.
However I’m now triple vaccinated and not vulnerable. Really feel for parents who are CEV when their children are ill.

We did with DS aged 13. He quite enjoyed it! Luckily he wasn't too poorly. He also didn't want the rest of us to get it as it meant we could still grandparents at Christmas. I cleaned the house like a manic and used lots of detol aerosol spray! My DH got it but also could have been from work. DS is now 'out' and DH is in the loft bedroom. Should be out around 22nd so still have everything crossed for Christmas. We face time at meal times which is good fun.

@Offtobednow no one is suggesting you wouldnt reassure a child having a nightmare.
But lots of 10 year olds never have nightmares.

@Papertrail392 the absolute best you can do for your child if they get covid is protect yourself. Don't listen to the judgemental people claiming they would literally put their life on the line to offer comfort to their child during what is more often than not cold symptoms.

I know many 12 year olds in my dds class who have isolated in their rooms when nobody is CEV. Most 12 year olds can manage it no bother at all.

They'll be missing you a lot more if in hospital or worse. If it happens isolate yourself or them and don't pay the comments from those lacking any empathy or kindness another thought.
