Are there really people who feel they have NO after effects from having had covid?

Just wondering.

I had it just over a year ago, as did DH. I usually have a brilliant immune system, and I felt okay with it apart from a bit breathless - but then totally lost sense of smell which was honestly really traumatising at the time. It took 10 days to start coming back but a lot, lot longer for more smells to return. I am definitely not back to 100% and doubt I ever will be, maybe about 80-90% though. DH reckons he has lost 70% of his smell and struggles with parosmia.

2-3 months after recovering I got the most awful itchy "covid toes" and had horrifically flaky dry lips. Occasionally flare ups. I am back to being able to run fast, it didn't take long to get back to that, but several times through the day I feel breathless and never experienced this before having covid.

Won't go into the mental side effects that having covid gave me, this is more wondering whether others who've had it (Wuhan version for us!) haven't noticed any lasting physical effects?

If relevant we were 40/41 when we had it, both very fit and (mostly) healthy. Never any health conditions before.

@Bobholll

I have about 50% of my smell back but otherwise, I’m fit and healthy and no effects at all. Took about 3 weeks and all good. Back to running, back to the gym, office, socialising etc .. my entire close friendship has had covid (10 of us plus husbands & kids) and several colleagues. Not a single after issue between us. It did take some longer to recover than others but we are all a’ok now. 3 of us have reduced smell still.

It’s annoying but I’m not loosing sleep over it.

Yup I mean stuff like that, impacted smell. First time I've had something (besides childbirth) and known that I'm not quite back to what I was before!

Mild for me too, no after effects

Everyone I know who has had it, says it lasted a few days and haven't had any long lasting effects.

30% of people have no symptoms at all, so obviously they wouldn't have lasting symptoms.

DS1 is on his last day of isolation today, he’s asymptomatic, he was testing daily on LFT for school which was how he tested positive. No symptoms at all, tested negative again on Day 3. I was worried about him catching it as he’s asthmatic and every cold turns into a chest infection and a night or two in hospital, but he’s not even coughed once with this.

DS2 had it in October, he had a headache, a blocked nose and sore eyes for 3-4 days, he tested positive on LFT and then the next day felt completely back to normal. He also tested negative again within a few days.

I had it in September when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I'm now 29 weeks and I've had three chest infections since. Though didn't have a cough during actual covid Hmm

I’m mid 40s, no serious health issues. I had covid in July. It was like flu, lasted about 10 days, I was knackered for a couple of weeks after that and absolutely fine since.

Sorry to hear you’re still struggling.

Dd2 has coughed her entire life, especially in winter, it started as usual back in late October on the mornings and evenings . She had whooping cough as a baby and it's had a knock on effect. I always worried covid might be bad due to her respiratory issues but Dd1 was picked up asymptomatically on a routine ltf so we all went for PCR's - dd2 tested positive among with dd1 - neither were unwell bit bizarrely dd2 has not coughed since. Not has she had her standard runny nose. Very strange, the longest she's gone ever without those lingering in the background

I ‘ve noticed virus infections do tend to hit the very fit badly.Glandular fever affected my dancer and gymnast friends disproportionately.
They tend to be “up and at ‘em” rather than resting.

Hopefully you’ll gradually get back to normal. It must be very annoying if you’re very aware of your body and health.

We had it in february, I ended up in hospital, no after effects that we’re aware of.

Rosemaryandlemon · 18/12/2021 22:04

My cousin was in ICU last Christmas with Covid. He now is fine, well he is overweight, diabetes and a smoker, but he had all this before! He is a client manager so works long hours and enjoys entertaining. No issue at all.

HairyToity · 18/12/2021 22:06

I believe we had Kent version last Christmas. No long term I'll effects for me or kids. We got away mildly. DH seems fine now. But it took a while.

My sister, who is high risk due to chronic asthma caught it and wasn't ill at all. She has to take regular tests due to her job and only found out she'd got it because of the testing. She's had no after effects either.
