Are there really people who feel they have NO after effects from having had covid?

Just wondering.

I had it just over a year ago, as did DH. I usually have a brilliant immune system, and I felt okay with it apart from a bit breathless - but then totally lost sense of smell which was honestly really traumatising at the time. It took 10 days to start coming back but a lot, lot longer for more smells to return. I am definitely not back to 100% and doubt I ever will be, maybe about 80-90% though. DH reckons he has lost 70% of his smell and struggles with parosmia.

2-3 months after recovering I got the most awful itchy "covid toes" and had horrifically flaky dry lips. Occasionally flare ups. I am back to being able to run fast, it didn't take long to get back to that, but several times through the day I feel breathless and never experienced this before having covid.

Won't go into the mental side effects that having covid gave me, this is more wondering whether others who've had it (Wuhan version for us!) haven't noticed any lasting physical effects?

If relevant we were 40/41 when we had it, both very fit and (mostly) healthy. Never any health conditions before.

All four of us had it(2 adults late 40s, 2 teens). All a bit off it for a day or 2, better within 48hrs. No lasting effects.

Tbh I don't know anyone who had lasting effects, maybe you're unlucky ?

Whistleforthechoir · 18/12/2021 19:19

And the teens hadn't yet been offered the vaccine at that point so unvaccinated. Me and DH had 2

LittleBabyCheeses · 18/12/2021 19:21

Yes, me. I had a cough, tight chest and some fatigue. Cough lingered for around 12 weeks, then went away. This was pre vaccines. I have no lasting effects.
No one I know who has had confirmed covid has any long term effects.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/12/2021 19:25

None whatsoever - I would have thought I had an ordinary cold if I hadn't 2 positive officially taken PCR tests.

my8thMNusername · 18/12/2021 19:26

It's good to hear that! I worry for family and friends but also us if we get it again. Mostly worry about DC and if it's impacted them (pretty young when they got it).

The smell thing has been the most annoying - that said I do feel that even recently it's been getting a bit stronger for me. Not for DH though and I feel desperately bad for him because of that.

The cough is annoying, but to be fair, I had a cough before Covid anyway & I only came out of isolation 8 days ago, so I haven’t had long. But otherwise I am fine.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/12/2021 19:29

Me and DS, no lasting effects at all. Took a while for my smell and taste to come back but it did.

Exhausteddog · 18/12/2021 19:31

My DS had it about 6 weeks ago. I wouldn't have thought to test tgh but we were doing lfts twice a week and it came up positive straight away. He had a slightly blocked nose for maybe 3 days and was otherwise fine. He had had 1 vaccine about a month before

OddBoots · 18/12/2021 19:35

No lasting effects for me but I caught it while double jabbed so was quite well protected symptom wise.

bailey999 · 18/12/2021 19:37

Me, dh and our 6 kids had covid in January and none of us had it severely or have any lasting effects and considering dh and myself were classed as CEV I feel very lucky!

Bobholll · 18/12/2021 19:38

I have about 50% of my smell back but otherwise, I’m fit and healthy and no effects at all. Took about 3 weeks and all good. Back to running, back to the gym, office, socialising etc .. my entire close friendship has had covid (10 of us plus husbands & kids) and several colleagues. Not a single after issue between us. It did take some longer to recover than others but we are all a’ok now. 3 of us have reduced smell still.

It’s annoying but I’m not loosing sleep over it.

Svara · 18/12/2021 19:41

I had a bit of a cough after two weeks, nothing after three, I'm healthy and in my late thirties. I don't know anyone with any lasting effects.

Bobholll · 18/12/2021 19:41

*im sure it’ll come back eventually & if not, well, could be worse. I can still taste pretty much fully so that’s by far a better outcome!

I’m not one to let small things get me down. Life is too short. People have far worse things than a lack of smell!

OliveTree75 · 18/12/2021 19:43

I had it pre vaccine and basically had a very, very mild cold. Was over it in a few days and no lingering effects at all.

minipie · 18/12/2021 19:44

DH had it in the summer, so Delta probably. Double vaxxed at the time.

Had mild cold symptoms and was all over within days save for lingering issues with taste and smell.

Now, a few months on, his only issue is that red wine tastes a bit funny.

DD age 6 had it a couple of weeks ago. Seems totally back to normal.

I know a lot of 40 something yr olds who have had it. None has any long term issues.

GreyTS · 18/12/2021 19:44

No side effects whatsoever, got it last September both of us unvaccinated at the time, neither myself 43 or boyfriend 37 got very sick, I had no symptoms except for loss of taste/smell 1 week in for maybe 48 hours, a bit of residual tiredness for maybe 2 weeks but nothing since. We are both competitive athletes, so maybe that helped, I have quite severe asthma and a history of post viral tracheitis

Deadcanary1 · 18/12/2021 19:47

Had it recently. Was double jabbed. I've had worse colds tbh. Anecdotally..the people who I know who have suffered the most, both with the virus, and also.the after affects, are all fit thin and under 50!

oneglassandpuzzled · 18/12/2021 19:48

My 24-year old, my husband, 68, and I, 57, are all fine following Covid six weeks ago.

Longcovid21 · 18/12/2021 19:50

Yes ive had long covid. Sense of smell not really returned after over 12 months. Stuff tastes really gross sometimes - I. E mint like tcp. Eyesight also affected?? Bit fed up tbh 😭

earsup · 18/12/2021 19:58

Lady at yoga....a doctor...16 months later still no smell or taste back etc....

PainAuChocowhat · 18/12/2021 20:00

DH and I caught it last September 2020, and most likely DC (10 weeks at the time) though I didn’t PCR test her. DH symptoms lasted a few days, he had a loss of sense of smell. I was asymptotic, only knew it was covid due to positive PCR tests and no lasting effects.

littlepeas · 18/12/2021 20:04

No lasting effects - had it late October. I wasn't unwell - sneezed quite a bit and had a sinus headache for a day - but fine otherwise. The only thing that lingered was loss of taste and smell - I'd say that was back to normal now, but it did take a few weeks.

SaigonSaigon · 18/12/2021 20:04

We had it a year ago; no lasting effects for me (& only lost my taste for a week at the time) but my poor old husband had lasting effects and still has them. Main one being a sore peeling tongue every few months. It's gross. His mild asthma got very bad, but brain fog was the worst thing. He couldn't work for 6 months this year as a result. He said he can't cope with all that again and is quite worried he'll catch again as a result. And he's never ill generally. I'm the one with an autoimmune condition The lottery of this virus is a worry.

littlepeas · 18/12/2021 20:05

Should have said, I have had 2 Pfizer and am late 30's.

Andacherryonthetop · 18/12/2021 20:18

DH and I got it last year before vaccinations. Guessing alpha strain. Both had flu like symptoms- fever, tiredness etc with the cough too. DH also had a random pain in his side which was really painful when he moved. I had a bad chest (I always get a bad chest with a virus) and really painful sinuses. We were better after a week and sense of smell returned a few weeks later. We were lucky not to lose sense of taste. I don’t feel any different to pre covid and I don’t know anyone with lingering effects- most of my friends have had covid. We are all early to mid thirties.
