Should Christmas be cancelled?

Janey879 · 16/12/2021 18:59

I’m in the No camp. By Christmas I mean gatherings inside with people not your household. What are you thinking?

YABU - Christmas should be cancelled
YANBU - Christmas shout not be cancelled

OP posts:
xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 18:59

not a chance!!

SenseSphere · 16/12/2021 19:00

Should not be cancelled and if it is, I’ll be seeing my family anyway.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/12/2021 19:00

Don’t be daft.

Freddiefox · 16/12/2021 19:00

At one point the number of cases will increase to the point where we have to shut down.

I’d rather ‘cancel Christmas’ than schools not go back.

Elfonthesofa · 16/12/2021 19:01

Does it matter if it is or not?

Everyone who is terrified of Covid has cancelled it already. The people who don't care about will crack on with the family knees up if it's cancelled or not.

I think anyone who was on the fence once upon a time is now on the side of 'not giving a fuck'.

Squirrelblanket · 16/12/2021 19:01

No

Immaculatemisconception · 16/12/2021 19:02

We're just carrying on as normal. We've had enough.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 16/12/2021 19:03

Sick of seeing these miserable threads.

No good for anyone's mental health

grafittiartist · 16/12/2021 19:04

What does cancelled mean?

EasterIssland · 16/12/2021 19:04

You can cancel it if you want. People this year will self asses more what they do. Can the government really ban it after everything that has emerged ? Do you really think people will comply ?

GaolBhoAlba · 16/12/2021 19:05

Absolutely not. There is mounting evidence that omicron is producing milder illness (for whatever reason - most likely immunity). I genuinely think caution, without panic, is the appropriate approach now. So, relax and enjoy Christmas 🎅

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 19:07

christmas will go ahead op....nobody has the 'power' to cancel it i'm afraid

Chishnfips · 16/12/2021 19:08

Nobody gets to decide if my Christmas is cancelled or not.

helpfulperson · 16/12/2021 19:08

I don't think it should be cancelled but I think people should consider the possible outcome of gatherings. Is it worth the additional risk of getting 20 people who see each other regularly anyway catching it? The answer to that will be different for different people. We've decided no and will see each other in small groups over the week.

Offmyfence · 16/12/2021 19:09

@SenseSphere

Should not be cancelled and if it is, I’ll be seeing my family anyway.
You and me both!
Sunflowersinthewind · 16/12/2021 19:09

Trouble is if a lot of people get Covid all at once then there are less shops open, less trains running, less taxis anywhere, less deliveries, less NHS staff, less teachers, less everything so I do think people need to exercise some caution in the run up to Christmas.

Heartdogs · 16/12/2021 19:10

I don't think they can stop people seeing family, nor should they try. If it is a choice between going to pubs, restaurants and theatre now or keeping schools open after the Christmas holidays then I think they should close the pubs, restaurants and threatres. But personally I think we are all vaccinated. It isn't getting better than this. Keep everything open.

Wizzbangfizz · 16/12/2021 19:10

Won't adhere to the rules if it is or it isn't

NynaeveSedai · 16/12/2021 19:13

Why anyone thinks my fully vaccinated including several boosted family members should avoid spending time together at Christmas if that's what we want to do I don't know.
Nobody has the right to tell us we can't. We wouldn't listen.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 16/12/2021 19:16

I won't be following the rules if they cancel Christmas

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 16/12/2021 19:18

Hell no. But I'm not worried. Cancel/don't cancel I won't be changing any plans unless they close hospitality etc.

I'm out in Saturday with 15 other friends. Living my life.

Crunchymum · 16/12/2021 19:22

Well I'm awaiting a PCR for my 6yo so it may well be taken out if our hands.

But given a choice I'm firmly in the no camp.

Youngatheart00 · 16/12/2021 19:22

What I find hard is that there’s so much made of protecting Christmas Day itself

The reality is I love the run up to Christmas much more than the day - and that’s what I feel we are missing out on this year with all the cancelled events, guidance to avoid mixing etc

I do worry about the crumbling of basic services / infrastructure due to the number of positive cases

Sparklesocks · 16/12/2021 19:25

No.
My office has switched to WFH again, and I’m trying only to go out for essential reasons at the moment (or outside for walks) to minimise my risk because numbers near me are really high and I know I’m unlikely to be seriously ill with it - but I don’t want to risk being sick over Christmas!

Bluebell878275 · 16/12/2021 19:42

I wish this stupid phrase would piss off. No body has the ability/power to 'cancel' Christmas. Christmas happens every year on the same date COVID or not. You can celebrate in your own way on another date if you wish but Christmas still happens from the 24th.
