Should Christmas be cancelled?

I’m in the No camp. By Christmas I mean gatherings inside with people not your household. What are you thinking?

YABU - Christmas should be cancelled
YANBU - Christmas shout not be cancelled
@Elfonthesofa - the point is that those who don't give a fuck could end up in hospital in large numbers & the NHS may collapse. What is there to understand? I'm at the end of my rope with selfish fuckers honestly.
These are most likely people who have not been vaccinated.

luckylavender · 18/12/2021 17:39

@Offmyfence - yep. I have no sympathy for them really.

Unless it's for a medical reason, I agree!

My boss has a severe fear of needles, he was hyperventilating prior to the vaccinations, I offered to go with him, he was that bad.

But fair play to him, he's managed them all.

@Freddiefox

At one point the number of cases will increase to the point where we have to shut down.

I’d rather ‘cancel Christmas’ than schools not go back.

This.

I'd rather have a Christmas this year. Horses for courses.

I'm isolating after a positive PCR. Lft was negative. Out of isolation on boxing day and will hopefully see my family then if I feel better. Triple vaxxed as well and I feel horrendous.
I work fr home, not been doing much mixing. Dd had it in October so hoping she stays negative. She is missing her birthday plans due to our isolation, just rubbish!
I think everyone should be cautious but still enjoy Christmas and see family.
The only positive thing (apart from my test hehe) is that I have managed to get a last minute online food delivery slot 😃

We don't bother with Christmas. We're a couple aged 60+ and we accept Christmas as the consumerist nonsense which it is. So we ignore it (I usually work Xmas anyhow).
You can see your family anytime should you wish to do so, why buy into the consumerist shit?
On the other hand, we ignore the covid guidelines/rules and we go out whenever and wherever we wish to.
We are both fully vaccinated, not because we want to be but because we want to access restaurants, pubs, holidays abroad etc.

I don't think it should be cancelled or household mixing limited. I don't think household mixing should be limited ever again. We are a social species.

What I don't understand is, if NHS is "creaking under the pressure", why is there not extra health messaging around keeping your own first aid kit and medicine box to self medicate where possible. .

We are very lucky as fortunately in good health but we have 4 DC aged from 10 downwards and they have been to GP twice and A&E once between them. I haven't seen a GP since January 2011 and DH since 2008. I see people on here and in ny real life recommending GP for worms treatment ffs.

Particular to Christmas we could also be ensuring food is properly cooked, avoiding alcohol - which leads to poor decisions and is a drain on A&E, not driving in snow and putting vape capsules/bleach/candles out of the reach of children (as many people are not used to having kids in their homes). There is so much an individual can do to lower their burden on NHS resources but it is never mentioned any more. It's all about avoiding Covid.

Aderyn21 · 19/12/2021 09:11

If I was being completely honest (and selfish) I'd rather have Christmas and all the restaurants, shops, etc operating as normal than have schools open. But I fully acknowledge that this is because my child is good with home learning and isn't keen on school at the best of times.
I can't bear the thought of another full lockdown

stayathomer · 20/12/2021 07:03

Is there not a middle ground here? I have to admit I've been shocked on mn by the amount of people talking about twenty plus people meeting up for Christmas, can those huge families not break into smaller bubbles? And surely people can but down the amount of shops etc they go to. We can all say at least we don't go to pubs and we're double/triple jabbed etc but it's more than pubs and unvaccinated spreading covid

chaosrabbitland · 20/12/2021 07:08

no it shouldnt , but i will be carrying on with plans anyway , im done with it now , the only lockdown i complied with was the very first , back in 2019 . since then i havent anyway so i wouldnt be starting now
