To think we soon won’t be isolating even when we have covid.

If covid is spreading as rapidly as it seems to be, surely people who have tested positive but who don’t have symptoms/aren’t feeling ill will have to carry on working. The country will stop functioning otherwise.

LethargicActress · 16/12/2021 18:00

I’m looking forward to the days when we can treat covid the same as we do a cold.

Survivedanotherday · 20/12/2021 19:11

They are stopping it in South Africa as they have come to their senses and realised this just isn't feasible!

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 19:13

I agree and about time too.

Notdoingthis · 20/12/2021 19:15

That's the dream.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 20/12/2021 19:19

I agree it can’t carry on indefinitely. As far as I’m aware, covid is the only illness where you LEGALLY have to self isolate, obviously if you have flu or norovirus etc it’s not fair to go out, but most people are sensible about it.

AnyFucker · 20/12/2021 19:21

Yep. Bring it on.

CoffeeMuggins · 20/12/2021 19:22

What do we expect the vulnerable to do when this happens? Stay inside forever or gamble with their lives every time they need to go to work or pop to the shops?

Bagelsandbrie · 20/12/2021 19:22

Yep. We need to do this. Otherwise the country will be on its knees.

actiongirl1978 · 20/12/2021 19:23

Lets hope so. I'm in my second 10 day infection isolation in 4 months and I'm ready to escape.

And I don't work.

I can only imagine how much this is affecting those who do.

This time round I literally had a cold. For about 5 days.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/12/2021 19:23

I agree. The sickest will be at home anyway in bed or off work.

IgneousRock · 20/12/2021 19:23

Yes, hopefully if the Omicron variant is as mild as it seems to be, this is the position we will get to.

Kshhuxnxk · 20/12/2021 19:24

Happy to lft three times a day or more if necessary !

Kshhuxnxk · 20/12/2021 19:26

No, I'll be making the most of the years I have left. Being vulnerable means I have limited time and I'm not spending it locked up. The last 2 years have been bad enough and I've never shielded even though I could. I do realise not everyone thinks like me but fuck me not doing this for another 1/5/10/15/20 years.
Glittertwins · 20/12/2021 19:28

As above. My mum will take care of herself and does not agree with the whole country being locked up/her grandchildren losing education. She wants to live her life and will do her own risk assessments as she has done for the past 10 years and forever more.

DeepaBeesKit · 20/12/2021 19:29

Yanbu. DH has had pretty much no symptoms. Even DD and I didnt really have it badly.

If the current wave doesnt result in loads of deaths hopefully the government will have faith in the vaccine and we can move on . Half of what makes the NHS over stretched is people having to isolate who arent unwell.

Bubblty · 20/12/2021 19:30

YABU

PissPotPourri · 20/12/2021 19:30

I am so happy to read this thread. I honestly thought I was alone in believing this is what we should be doing. Now I realise I’m not

Bagelsandbrie · 20/12/2021 19:31

@Kshhuxnxk I completely agree with you and I’m in the clinically extremely vulnerable group. Fuck this for a game of soldiers. I could die tomorrow from any of my conditions anyway.

HugeAckmansWife · 20/12/2021 19:31

Absolutely agree. There are many things out there that the vulnerable have to cope with, and it is awful for them but we simply cannot continue to rearrange the entire world's economy and trading system, travel and family relationships for something that is so relatively inconsequential.

Overthebow · 20/12/2021 19:32

Yes this will happen fairly soon. It was leaked that it was the plan from April next year, stopping the widespread testing if you have symptoms so effectively stopping isolation for covid. As for the vulnerable, it would be the same as it is for any other illness.

RoomOfRequirement · 20/12/2021 19:32

That would be awful for the vulnerable!

I can understand stopping isolation for exposure, and not going into a lockdown anymore, but let's not forget people are STILL dying of Covid, and if someone tests positive they shouldn't be allowed to go into the office or work in a store!

CoffeeMuggins · 20/12/2021 19:35

That's great! What do we do with the very vulnerable who still have to go out to work? Not all of them are so ill that they are unable to work.
chalamet · 20/12/2021 19:36

Man, I kind of hope this happens, and I speak as someone who is CV.

Wrinklyeyes · 20/12/2021 19:37

Am really hoping it weakens to the point this will be possible soon. Hopefully soon!

user313213521 · 20/12/2021 19:37

That's already the reality of what happens for people who don't get sick pay and so can't afford to isolate
