Are you cancelling bookings?

Just that really… are you cancelling restaurant bookings for next week?

My Father has his annual birthday meal booked on Sunday - It’s a beautiful gastro pub but it’s small, and I am nervous. I am triple jabbed as are we all so I am not nervous about catching covid as I hope it would be mild but I am nervous about being in isolation for Christmas Day.

Am I being ridiculous here??? Is everyone else going ahead with meals out pubs etc??

I don’t have any meals out as I have young children and no childcare but we are seriously considering what we do about Panto and soft play bookings.

Happy1982ish · 16/12/2021 08:11

Hell to the no I’m not!!

gemininova · 16/12/2021 08:12

We're not, but I'm keeping an eye on the news. To be honest, if cases are this insane I'm resigning myself to probably getting it and trying to enjoy things before the next lockdown comes!

Maddymorphosis · 16/12/2021 08:14

No

TheVampiresWife · 16/12/2021 08:19

Yes, with massive regret.

I've been nowhere and done nothing for months now and we were going for a meal on the 27th. I was so looking forward to it even though I felt a bit uneasy before Omicron as cases were rising, but now it seems foolhardy. I'm CEV though and if I wasn't it may be a different story.

Sparklingbrook · 16/12/2021 09:00

No. I’m going out for lunch today.

NoNameHere12 · 16/12/2021 09:04

No way!!! I do believe there will be a lockdown in January so I’m making the most of it now

Rrrob · 16/12/2021 09:05

I don’t know what to do. We are booked to go to a Christmas party at local play cafe tomorrow. I feel like I should probably cancel.

mindutopia · 16/12/2021 09:05

No meals booked, but we are currently on day 7 of self-isolation as 2 of the 4 of us have COVID (incidentally, which dh got from one of his staff at the company Christmas do Hmm ). I would like go out for a pub meal when all of this is over sometime between Christmas and New Year and I wouldn't be put off necessarily as long as everyone is being sensible and it's not too busy...which is no different that how I've always felt.

WombatChocolate · 16/12/2021 09:06

If you’re not cancelling, are you worried about someone in your household catching Covid and then not being able to spend Christmas itself with wider family? Or would you just go anyway?

I’m spending Christmas with my family Irrespective of whether anyone has covid (as long as they’re up to it of course - just like with any illness)

Soft play is a bacterial soup. Our grandchildren catch then distribute to parents, grandparents only the pets are immune. I hate soft play 😅
DynamiteFilledRadish · 16/12/2021 09:10

No, not cancelling a single thing.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/12/2021 09:11

Nope. I'm going out for meals on Saturday, next Wednesday and Christmas eve.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 16/12/2021 09:11

I will assume this is a genuine question and not a way to invite people to take a kicking....we will just carry on anyway. None of my family would be bothered or want to cancel anything.

SickAndTiredAgain · 16/12/2021 09:11

I wouldn’t cancel what you’ve described - it’s sounds like a family event so you’d be cancelling time with family because it would potentially prevent you spending time with family on a different day.
I know Christmas is different, but you can always do it the weekend after.

DH is considering cancelling meeting up with friends in London this weekend, but is 50/50 on it. I don’t mind either way.

TolkiensFallow · 16/12/2021 09:11

Currently I’m not cancelling stuff. Feeling slightly nervy but have had all the jabs and the schools are still open so with kids in school I can’t see that not going out for dinner is going to make much difference

WombatChocolate · 16/12/2021 09:12

Happy, just out of interest, do you have any elderly or vulnerable in your family?

We have several over 80s. I’d be worried that if I or one of my kids had Covid, they would be a real risk to the oldies. I’m more concerned about that than if anyone is actually feeling ill and ‘up to’ being present at the celebrations etc.

Do you find that all your family are taking the view that they’re happy for anyone who catches Covid over next 10 days to be there regardless? Really interested as people have different views in this I know.

Thewiseoneincognito · 16/12/2021 09:12

If you are unsure then you should cancel, it’s simply not worth the risk.

Sparklingbrook · 16/12/2021 09:12

I am going out for lunch with 3 people from work who I eat lunch with every day.
The restaurant is large and I’m happy with the covid arrangements they have.

Aposterhasnoname · 16/12/2021 09:13

No, quite the opposite, I’m booking more stuff to support hospitality.

Mojoj · 16/12/2021 09:13

Nope. Am partying my ass off.

Lorriestakingppe · 16/12/2021 09:14

No, quite the opposite, I’m booking more stuff to support hospitality.

Me too, hospitality is desperate right now

Karma1981 · 16/12/2021 09:18

We have a booking on Sunday to take the children to breakfast with santa.
If it was for me I would probably cancel it, but the kids have already had enough cancelled and there so looking forward to it.
