12-15 Year Olds - are they being offered two doses now?

Thatsnotmy2021 · 14/12/2021 20:17

Not sure if I imagined it, but I thought all 12-15 year olds were now being offered 2 doses of the vaccine, but I can't see this info on any government website.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or post a link please?

But 12 weeks minimum

OrangeSyringe · 15/12/2021 18:01

12 year old DC had covid in September and November so missed vaccine 1. Do I need to wait 90 days from last positive test to get first vaccine? If so can we walk in or do we Have book? How more many times will they catch it before they can be vaccinated?

OriginalM · 15/12/2021 18:06

Most school kids age 12-15 only just had the 1st jab though so will have to wait 12 weeks so not sure why they making a big deal of being able to book from Monday? There can't be that many who had the jab early on enough to be able to book from Monday

JanglyBeads · 15/12/2021 18:09

@OrangeSyringe it’s 28 days not 90.

bizboz · 15/12/2021 18:10

Had a letter from my DC's school today with details of a walk-in vaccination centre where 12-15 year olds can go for their second dose.

OrangeSyringe · 15/12/2021 18:21

@JanglyBeads

Are you sure it’s 28 days?

mnp321 · 15/12/2021 18:23

Yes, I watched the announcement on the press conference and hoped they'd clarify the minimum time period between first and second vaccinations. But they didn't.

www.gov.uk/government/news/ukhsa-updates-clinical-guidance-on-vaccinations-for-12-to-17-year-olds

I think it changed from 28 days to 90 days in November.

OrangeSyringe · 15/12/2021 18:25

“To be consistent with this advice, the clinical guidance has also been updated by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to recommend that young people aged 12 to 17 who are not in a high risk group should wait 12 weeks after a positive test showing COVID-19 infection before getting their first (or second if aged 16 to 17) vaccine dose.

This increase from 4 weeks is based on the emerging evidence from the UK and other countries, which suggests that leaving a longer interval between infection and vaccination may further reduce the already small risk of myocarditis in younger age groups.“

ColettesEarrings · 15/12/2021 18:25

Definitely 12 weeks for under 16s @JanglyBeads, due to the risk of myocarditis.

There was a specific date given, next week.

bizboz · 15/12/2021 21:02

I should add, it seemed to be a special clinic set up just for 12-15 year olds and was also doing the flu vaccine.

bizboz · 15/12/2021 21:14

It also specifies that second doses can only be given 12 weeks after the first dose so I wouldn't think many are eligible yet.

My daughter was done 12 weeks ago today - I think quite early on compared to some schools -

Agree. Earliest beginning Feb here.

I've just been able to book DD's second on the internet booking system for the week she's due. Just tried it on the off chance and it allowed me to book.

Yep - I’ve been trying regularly and today it let me on, and she’s booked! It’ll be 13 weeks for her; so glad to get it scheduled soon
jb23newmum · 17/12/2021 21:34

We went to a walk in centre and was told it had to be 91 days after 1st vaccination which is 13 weeks - I thought it was 12 weeks ?

Bokky · 17/12/2021 21:52

The first date I was offered was exactly 12 weeks after her first. I've booked it for a few days later once she's got PE and her active after school bits out of the way as I'm anticipating a sore arm!

3luckystars · 17/12/2021 21:55

Are we all talking about the same vaccine?
Which vaccine are the 12-15 year olds getting? Is it Pfizer?

DD12 had Pfizer
JanglyBeads · 17/12/2021 22:00

Yes all Pfizer I think.
Sorry upthread, when my son was done and I was in school (staff) helping with the vax process it was 28 days, had forgotten they’d made that change since then.

I’ve managed to book his second dose for early Feb, tonight, great!

NeverForgetYourDreams · 17/12/2021 23:50

Been on today. Eligible now but zero vaccination centres in our area. South central.

3luckystars · 18/12/2021 07:31

Thank you.
