@Remmy123

My unvaccinated friend just had covid and felt fine - unvaccinated wife didn't catch it (slept in same room)

Vaccinated friend had if and had to have paramedic due to breathing difficulties

No one knows what will happen!

On an individual level.

On a population level, we do. That’s what science does.

Cam77 · 14/12/2021 19:31

The global evidence thus far seems to strongly suggest that Omnicron is the mildest variant yet. So what I don’t understand is why is this almost certainly mild variant being pushed so heavily as the reason to get the booster?

the80sweregreat · 14/12/2021 19:34

I think they are hedging their bets on this one and the whole booster thing just shifts the mind to something else ?
I've no idea at all though

whynotwhatknot · 14/12/2021 19:41

same as the flu you can have a vaccine but still get it-its not a cure

Cam77 · 14/12/2021 19:42

@PurpleDaisies

You are correct. However where it gets problematic is that people are being encouraged, coerced, shamed etc into getting the vaccine and all subsequent vaccines on an “individual level”. The biological/physiological level is always individual. The “population level” by contrast is just statistics.

Once we admit the unpredictable nature of the virus on any one individual (and to a lesser extent, unpredictability of the vaccine) IMO we need to then accept and respect that some people will wish to play those odds differently according to how they believe their mind/body will cope/react as well of course due to any political/social convictions. Just because Action A is statistically more dangerous than Action B, does not infer that action B is unreasonable. Is everyone who has a glass of wine in the evening unreasonable? Is everyone who sits in front of the sofa every evening rather than engaging in 30 minutes of exercise unreasonable? Where should the judgement stop?

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 14/12/2021 19:59

@TheHolyPotato

I think a lot of us who wondered of we were immune will be caught up in this wave.
Yes. I am dreading it. DH has another 4 days working on site, mainly outside, drives a van alone, hotel roms alone, so should be OK.

I am self employed and it is my quiet time. So just shops and dog walkingfor me, again.

Booster on 20th.

It doesn't matter that it might be mild. It will still genertae a number of very ill people who could, at various best guesses, inundate teh NHS. And, lest anyone forget, that is the main bloody reason we ever locked down in the first, second, third place.

I don't care that Action B isn't unreasonable. I do care that some people I know, as well as many across SM, are making their own decisions based on scurrilously false information - or are the ones spreading that disinformation themselves.

And, whether you do so deliberately or not, you are doing it yourself, your choice of words Once we admit the unpredictable nature of the virus on any one individual

You could have said understand and the rest of that sentence would have stood unchanged. Except for the hint of someone being guilty of something.

AndPeggy08 · 14/12/2021 20:00

Yep, same here - both DH and I are triple vaxxed and both Covid Positive. It seems fairly mild though - both just feel like we have a bad cold and I’m still working from home because I don’t feel ill enough to take time off.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 14/12/2021 20:02

We have now hit a very similar figure to the highest peak in January of covid positive people, the big difference is hospital admissions and ventilated patients, these appear to holding fairly steady, fingers crossed it continues.

TheHolyPotato · 14/12/2021 20:05

I think you've confused me with another poster @HoardingSamphireSaurus.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 14/12/2021 20:08

I though I was agreeing with you. oh!

Yes I see, I did @Cam77 but am on my phone, it seems to have fallen off. My apologies. Please ignore anything past "Booster on 20th" Grin

Laniey · 14/12/2021 20:08

@ecceromani - initially achey legs (thighs) like I’d been for a long run. Then one gland in my neck came up. Slowly started getting a vague headache which spread down my neck and forehead.

Now achey all over, temp, itchy eyes and very sore throat, no cough yet.

DSGR · 14/12/2021 20:09

Feels pointless? Really? People have died.. young and fit healthy people. If you come out alive you are winning in my book.
I’m sorry you’re ill but you will likely recover quickly.. the vaccines are not pointless

TheHolyPotato · 14/12/2021 20:14

I should say for clarity I agreed with a post earlier which among other things said vaccinations felt pointless. I should clarify that they've given us a baseline immunity for which I'm thankful.

the80sweregreat · 14/12/2021 20:17

My friend lost her partner this year aged 48 to covid. Fit , healthy, no underlying Health issues , just unlucky I guess
She wishes he had a chance to have the vaccine.

WonderfulYou · 14/12/2021 20:31

Transmission rates are lowered with each dose you have - but obviously the new variant is a faster spreader.
But you will have more protection with each dose - so your symptoms will be less severe.

The reason for the vaccinations aren’t so much about stopping people getting it but to stop it from becoming such a massive problem. It everyone only gets mild symptoms they won’t need hospital treatment.

sausagepastapot · 14/12/2021 20:42

I'm treble vacced, had my booster in early November and tested positive last week. Feel pretty much fine. Very mild headache and muscle aches, felt slightly dizzy for an hour yesterday. That's it.

hamstersarse · 14/12/2021 20:46

...yet still we are calling for vaccine passports and vilifying the unvaccinated

This sort of statement makes absolutely no sense because "for most people the disease is mild" anyway without the vaccine

The reason for the vaccinations aren’t so much about stopping people getting it but to stop it from becoming such a massive problem. It everyone only gets mild symptoms they won’t need hospital treatment.

It's bonkers

MummyMe87 · 14/12/2021 20:50

I am tripled vaxxed also, January 2021, March 2021, September 2021. Also on my 3rd bout of covid, first some time before October 2020 (had positive antibodies in a trial I took part in which showed previous infection), pos PCR Christmas week 2020, pos PCR last week! Not been told it’s Omicron so assume not

Nerdygirl · 14/12/2021 20:52

Oh well at least you can still go into a large venue because you meet the criteria for the passport! Shows the nonsense of the passport

IncessantNameChanger · 14/12/2021 21:34

Yikes! Has it been the same severity each time? I have covid in January and it feels inevitable I will have it again soon
howdiditcometothis666 · 14/12/2021 22:31

@LookslovelyinSpringtime

What we aren’t being told is whether anyone has died from Covid after being fully vaccinated . We are being sold this line that I’d you have three jabs you won’t die. I’m not so sure about that. I would like to see all the statistics on who has died , what their status , health and age was and whether they had any other conditions.
There is data on ONS e.g. one week in Sept: 444 double vax people died 243 were aged 80+ 117 were aged 70-79 55 were aged 60-69 29 were aged 10 - 59. Sorry to talk so starkly about deaths.
boogiebogie · 14/12/2021 22:31

I agree with you. What a breath of fresh air. Absolute bollocks!

boogiebogie · 14/12/2021 22:47

'Vaccines seem to expose people to an increased risk of mortality, there is no short term benefit. ' queen Mary University london. 'Vaccines create a spike in mortality'. Not some anti vax nut... Professor ot statistics!
