Any ideas what might happen in Wales?

So following today’s press conference how likely do we think it there’ll be further restrictions in Wales before Christmas? I’m supposed to be going on the 22nd (am in England, mum is in N Wales), starting to worry now that they’ll ban travel! When is the next update?

Obviously I know no one here definitely knows, unless Eluned is a MNer, I’m just stressing myself out!

I don't know how reliable this is but one of the parents just posted this in a sports group chat

ChristmasCatBells · 15/12/2021 18:27

Feels increasingly likely that Wales are going to be bringing back restrictions and closing schools.

Filterphobia · 15/12/2021 18:41

Oh gosh no! I really hope that source is a load of 💩 but unfortunately feels like we are on the verge of more restrictions.

MrsLeclerc · 15/12/2021 18:43

@Bestkindaparty DH saw exactly the same info today shared on a local football forum page. Wouldn’t be surprised as Drakeford always has to go one step further than the others.

Helocariad · 15/12/2021 19:47

I really hope we can meet on Christmas Day with more than 2 households though :-( .

MinesaBottle · 15/12/2021 19:57

That’s going to be shit for hospitality if true. I guess all we can do is wait for the next update and cross everything.

I think it’s probably true and I also think schools will be closed in January. I hope to be wrong.

Filterphobia · 16/12/2021 13:47

Sadly it’s looking more like restrictions will be introduced tomorrow and schools have now been told they won’t open as planned. It’s on BBC news.

Covid: Schools to open later than planned after Christmas www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-59680096

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2021 15:01

They’d just better fucking not.

Covid passes for hospitality, or covid passes for anyone coming in from the rest of U.K. , fine.

MrsLeclerc · 16/12/2021 15:19

Just had a message from the school (primary, DS is in their nursery class) with a letter from the health minister to all schools. It basically says the same as @Filterphobia BBC link.

The main points in brief are:

2 planning days for schools at the start of the spring term to assess staff capacity and put measures in place.

Issuing a Coronavirus Act 2020 notice to allow schools to operate staggered start and finish times if appropriate after a risk assessment.

Asks them to ensure there are robust plans in place for remote learning in case of issues based on staffing pressures.

For high school age they are asking for 3 Lateral Flows a week (mon, wed and fri) in the week before returning to school and to continue through the start of term.

Our school have said they are contacting us tomorrow to let us know what their plans are.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2021 15:31

That sounds sensible @MrsLeclerc

MrsLeclerc · 16/12/2021 16:08

Yes I think so. The school seem pretty good at giving notice of changes as much as they possibly can.

DH has just seen that his football match has been cancelled on Saturday due to covid in both teams. He was expecting it tbh.

CJay81 · 16/12/2021 16:11

Waiting to hear what he has to say. I thought the schools would close early, ours don't break up till wed. Was hoping they'd close tomorrow but looks like they'll be going back late instead.

Which county are you in? Many counties have closed schools next week. Although I have heard that conwy is at the moment still open until weds.
WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 16/12/2021 17:14

Gwynedd is also still open til weds.

ChristmasCatBells · 16/12/2021 18:00

Conwy changed their mind and closing Friday now

MrsLeclerc · 16/12/2021 22:16

Sky are reporting Wales’ new restrictions. Obviously not official yet but probably pretty accurate.

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 16/12/2021 22:21

My AM has posted the same @MrsLeclerc so it must be official.

Andacherryonthetop · 16/12/2021 22:43

I’m glad no restrictions over Xmas but am surprised, thought drakeford would have introduced them earlier.

Fendidntdrake · 17/12/2021 08:47

So, was all that stuff in the Hospitality and Catering news above, just made up then?? Am confused

Could have been a misinformed source. Or WG trying to test the waters for what reaction they'd get?
RoseAndRose · 17/12/2021 09:14

@MrsFin

Wales and Scotland always seem to "go one better" than England - just because. Isn't Scotland looking at limiting mixing to 3 households, reintroducing social distancing etc?
I don't think it's 'one better' but I do think it's because left leaning governments tend to go for more controlling policies (it was Labour who wanted ID cards, remember, and spend taxpayers money on preparatory work, with the Tories being the ones to ditch them)
Fendidntdrake · 17/12/2021 09:19

Oh. Thanks. I have ASD so get stressed and confused when things can't be taken at face value. Particularly when searching for certainty in a global pandemic!

Fendidntdrake · 17/12/2021 09:20

So now they've gone to weekly reviews, is there a chance of rules changing on Christmas Eve?

110APiccadilly · 17/12/2021 09:57

@Fendidntdrake

So now they've gone to weekly reviews, is there a chance of rules changing on Christmas Eve?
Yes, though I'd be sightly surprised if the rules change significantly at that point because: A) They must know that people are the least likely to listen at that point that they'll ever be - many, many people will already be at their family's by Christmas Eve and; B) The civil service gets Christmas Eve off. So they'll have very few civil servants available to them (a few doing overtime presumably)?

So it's possible, but it's a very inconvenient time (for the government) to change things - they'd be much more able to deal with changing things now.
