Panto - would you go?

Just that. Got expensive panto tickets for Saturday. Booked months ago. Kids are 5 and 6 and would love it. They haven’t been before.

But. Aware of risk - worried about possible omnicron and isolating over Xmas. Can’t get booster for another week but have all had Covid in the last 8 weeks. No idea if this helps or not.

No idea yet if it is possible to move the panto tickets until after Xmas - I deliberately booked then for just before Xmas as I thought they atmosphere would be great. However clearly a panto is lots of people packed into a badly ventilated space. Even in masks….

What would you do?

How do you know it's poorly ventilated? Most larger venues have a good ventilation system that is being used pre show and throughout. I'd suggest looking at what safety measures the venue has in place and making a decision based on if you are comfortable or not.

Treaclepie19 · 13/12/2021 20:53

We're going on Sunday.
I'm more tempted to cancel it because of stomach bugs everywhere tbh 😅

AhGoGo · 13/12/2021 20:54

And what about next year and next year and the year after that? Are we going to cancel everything forever?

HappyGoLuckyLuLu · 13/12/2021 21:02

DD in last year of primary was supposed to be going with whole school on Weds but school has cancelled it. I feel bad for the kids (they're all mixing anyway so it seems moot) & I feel really bad for the theatre - that's one big booking gone that they're fully refunding. It's never ending

Went yesterday, had an absolutely fabulous time, Theatre was packed, everyone wore masks and we had to show our vaccine certificates to get in. The atmosphere was the best I’d even experienced, everyone just seemed so happy and joyful. Go, enjoy, life is too short. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

andweallsingalong · 13/12/2021 21:06

We did, really enjoyed it!

All except one big group respected the venues request to wear masks.

Edinvillian · 13/12/2021 23:26

We went to the panto on Saturday, we also had covid about 6 weeks ago and felt safer because of this.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/12/2021 23:38

Might as well go because we’ll probably all be spending January locked up indoors regardless

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/12/2021 23:47

If omicron really is as transmissible as we’re being told then nothing short of a lockdown far more severe than our first one is going to stop it. To have any hope of avoiding it We’d need the entire country to hunker down in nuclear bunkers, living under candlelight, eating cold tinned beans and not coming out for fresh air until late spring.

Looks like we’re all going to get Covid sooner or later. Thus, go and enjoy yourself while you still can.

Topseyt · 13/12/2021 23:58

I would go. We can't just keep cancelling everything all the time.

chocolatebrowniesfortea · 14/12/2021 00:02

You have just had covid! You should feel all powerful and can do anything you please.

turioeffect · 14/12/2021 00:05

I'd go. We went to a Christmas concert for families in a huge venue yesterday - my DD had a brilliant time, the atmosphere was amazing, lots of audience participation and I'm so glad she had the chance to experience it. Covid certificates at entry and almost everyone in masks.

Fully expect more restrictions to come but I'm trying to make sure my dc have the chance to experience as much normality whenever we can, so I'm not voluntarily cancelling anything we've booked.

ZoBo123 · 14/12/2021 00:19

Most theatres will have air conditioning to air ventilation and they usually have really high ceilings. But you have just had Covid so you can't test anyway again so you won't have to self isolate. Assuming you are all young you won't end up in hospital.

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/12/2021 00:23

We’re going to a west end show on Saturday and Panto on the 22nd. We can’t keep cancelling things forever.

Whycantibetangy · 14/12/2021 01:40

@AtlasPine Grin

Booklover3 · 14/12/2021 01:46

Is it a risk you are happy to take?

We went last week. We weighed it up. The tickets were already a year old as we were supposed to go last year. Kids had a fab time. I’m glad we went but as we are just having a small Christmas with the five of us that went it didn’t make much of a difference to us

Booklover3 · 14/12/2021 01:47

Didn’t see that you’ve already had covid. That would simplify it for me. Go and have fun

Ariann · 14/12/2021 02:12

No, I wouldn't go.

I have vulnerable people I see in my job whose health I wouldn't risk for a pantomime - not in a million years.

Egghead68 · 14/12/2021 02:31

If you have all had Covid in the last 8 weeks then yes I would go.

FuckingFabulous · 14/12/2021 07:11

@Mumdiva99

Yes. Similar situation to you. But tickets for Xmas eve. We are going.
Ours are for Christmas Eve too and unless the government shuts all that down, we are going.
Daisy829 · 14/12/2021 07:15

I’m due at the panto this weekend too and have been having this debate with myself. My friend said to me….if we stop doing things we might aswell be in isolation anyway…I thought that was spot on.

perplexedandvexed · 14/12/2021 07:20

Go. Sick of living this way now.

nettie434 · 14/12/2021 07:22

I went to the panto a couple of weeks ago. I think the theatre kept some doors or windows open as it was really cold! The vaccine certificates/negative LFT rule (which wasn't in place when we went) should help too.

TenoringBehind · 14/12/2021 07:27

I’d go because soon we’ll have months of nothing fun to do again.

FflosFfantastig · 14/12/2021 07:52

I'd go while you still can.
