If we are faced with remote learning, will school be open for vulnerable children?

@Deadcanary1

The reason why they're working in such unsafe conditions is because they allow themselves to be treated like shit! More fool them.Well this particular school is one extra pair of hands down because of their lack of regard for health and safety.

Wow this thinking blows my mind… we all want safe working conditions.

What do you suggest us teachers do?

I completely agree! I wonder if @Deadcanary1 feels the same about nhs staff, supermarket staff and care home staff...

@Remmy123

Schools can't close every time the NHS get overwhelmed!

There would be uproar this time. I got it before but as everyone is vaccinated what's the point.

The point is that with Omicron, 20% of children are more likely to get infected. Watch Dr John Campbells research from South Africa. They are more likely than ever before to catch it.

On top of that, who the hell is going to teach your child if there is no staff?

Of the children that are in school, it will e peacemeal learning taking place.

Shake yourself and give yourself a reality check.

We can't have national school closures because the NHS doesn't cope, it's pathetic.

How about changing improving healthcare service so that its fit for purpose?

If there are localised closures due to local outbreaks, e/g/ a bubble gets sent home or a year group does a weeks remote learning that's fine, they'll soon enough be back in the classroom once they are well. But why do a blanket shut down of kids' education?

One of the most depressing things about Covid is posters on MN angry demanding that schools must shut and kids are to learn at home.

I'm really puzzled by this, I've seen hundreds of people (parents and school staff) saying "schools must not close" I don't think I've ever read eve. one angry post demanding schools close.
I mean I know I skim read a bit but since there are so many you'd have thought I'd see one.
As far as I know most of Mumsnet wants schools open.

theemperorhasnoclothes · 16/12/2021 19:03

Yes I've never seen anyone wanting schools closed.

Schools safer yes (partly to avoid closure), schools with mitigations like ventilation and masks and isolation of contacts.

Wanting them closed, no. It's a myth.

Itsnotover · 18/12/2021 19:12

The only time I heard people being angry that schools weren't closing was at the beginning of the pandemic when the UK had briefly decided to let Covid burn through the population.
