Evening all,

My DS woke up this morning with a sore throat. Lateral flowed and it is positive. He is booked in for a pcr tomorrow morning and I am fully expenting it to be positive.

What I don't understand is what the rest of the family need to do if it is positive? Two double jabbed parents, and two unvaccinated, under 12 DC (not including probably positive DS!). Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

I am confused about that too!

Ahhhhhbisto · 12/12/2021 21:53

That makes me feel a bit better, thanks!

If positive all of you should take a PCR test. Under 12s and double vaxed don't need to isolate unless they are positive. Might be worth PCR for all of you and another for any that are negative in 3 days times.

FindingMeno · 12/12/2021 21:54

You just keep on as usual I think, but you're supposed to do a pcr.

NellieBertram · 12/12/2021 21:55

Everyone else tests and carries on as usual if negative.

marmaduke888 · 12/12/2021 21:55

Think it depends where you are, in wales you’d have to isolate!

Ahhhhhbisto · 12/12/2021 21:55

Thank you for the replies. Is there official guidance on when other family members should pcr? Thanks

In England, sorry i should have said that in the OP.

This is true unless your ds has the omicron variant, in which case you all need to isolate regardless of vaccine status...although I believe they are replacing the isolation for close contacts of omicron this week with asking close contacts to test daily. But that hasn't been confirmed yet. Clear as mud, right?
Porfre · 12/12/2021 21:58

Also I think there are new rules now.
If its omicron you should LFT for 7 days

Ahhhhhbisto · 12/12/2021 21:59

I find it all so confusing (i know that doesn't reflect welk on me)!

It's frustrating as I want to ensure we are following guidelines but it's so hard to keep up with Blush

Are you in England? The website should have offered you the option to book PCR tests for the rest of the household at the same time.

FawnFrenchieMum · 12/12/2021 22:01

If your DS is positive then test and trace will tell you the latest rules when they contact you.

Thank you. Tbh I was in a bit of a flap and just wanted it booked. Rushed through the process! Should I be keeping my others at home tomorrow?

There was a change today applying from Tuesday but gov website not updated yet. So as of today, you should all get a PCR.

If only DS positive, he isolates for 10 days - starts from today as start of symptoms. Other DC are exempt as under 18, you and DH are exempt as fully vaccinated.

From Tuesday, DC are still exempt from isolation, but you and DH will need to take daily lateral flow tests for 7 days.

If, at any point, you develop symptoms or have a positive lateral flow, you need to take a PCR and if positive the clock starts from then. So potentially a lot of lateral flow tests!

frasersmummy · 12/12/2021 22:06

The confusion is only going to get worse as people criss cross the UK...at this time of year particularly it would be far better to have one set of rules across the Uk

Thank you for all your responses. I will update when we have pcr results but fully expecting at least one positive result Sad

You can book PCR for everyone else, just put you are close contact.

I assume you've all lateral flow tested today and got negatives apart from DS? It's not a given that it will spread - DD caught it in October and neither DH nor I got it - but be vigilant.

Ahhhhhbisto · 12/12/2021 22:19

All lateral flowed today aparts from autistic DS1. Will skip lateral flow and go straight to pcr for him so he doesn't need to go through it more than necessary.
All negative atm 🤞

The rest of you can carry on as normal, you should all get a PCR test but as long as you've no symptoms don't need to isolate whilst awaiting results. From Tues it's advised that household contacts take daily LFTS regardless of vaccine status I'm not sure If applies to young children under 12 too.

gogohm · 12/12/2021 22:21

You should all take lft, if positive obviously you also take a pcr, if negative the guidance is you test daily as a close contact. If after 12 days you are still clear then revert to twice weekly testing

@Wellbythebloodyhell that's not true, unvaccinated adults who are close contacts will still need to isolate.

At our local test centre last week they asked if everyone in the car needed a test even if not booked so you should be able to do your Pcr at the same time as ds
