Driving around looking at lights with covid positive.

Do you think it's okay? I know isolation means isolation. 3 out of 4 of us are positive, Dp is nearing the end of his isolation, me and Ds just started . Just Dd to go. Likely she will get it given circumstances.

Anyway, Dd has sen and fascinated by Christmas lights and desperate to see some. Ds is autistic and climbing the walls bored with isolating.

So do you think it would be okay if we drive around our housing estate looking at lights?

We live in a sleepy village in the middle of nowhere in a rather large but quiet housing development. Would involve no main roads or through roads whatsoever. Just around the estate which the roads are mainly all a one way system.

Would it be really bad to do so for 10 minutes?

The likelihood of an accident is next to zero and I've lived here for 10 years and there's never been any form of road traffic collision.

Embracing myself to be told how bad it would be though!

A bored autistic child in isolation is so hard!

@LondonWolf how do you pass it on whilst in a car then? It's basically impossible 🧑‍🎄

I think you’re addressing the wrong person. My previous post was a quote Xmas Smile

@IncessantNameChanger

Ah back to the pitchforks and curtain twicthing, moral high ground. Just like in April when I was too terrified to buy food to feed 4 kids for a week in case I was photoed on FB with more than one pack of mince.....

The people shouting you down would probably rather see you in hell if as long as they was comfy and safe.

Reminds me of someone in my village who posted a circled picture on FB of two people out walking in 2020 from a bedroom window. They was married but get out the pitch forks and burn them anyway to be on the safe side.

It was a crazy time! In April 20 I went to Sainsburys to buy Ds a birthday cake, I only had time to pick up a cake after a home baking disaster and the looks I got just buying one kids cake 😅😅

@LondonWolf oh sorry!!!! X

Jesus just do it!! I’m very pro being safe but there’s also just using common sense. You’re in the car, go out! If you’re really worried about a potential accident, write out the details you’d need to share on a piece of paper ahead of time so you can hold it up to the window along with a note explaining covid positive in the car. But seriously, just use common sense.

Dominic Cummings

That is all that needs to be said

Tryagainplease · 12/12/2021 20:29

Most accidents happen in the home. They’re probably statistically more likely to have an incident within their house that would require some sort of medical attention, therefore putting others at risk!

I would go OP!

fakereview · 12/12/2021 20:34

Just do it OP. MNers are obsessed with breaking down (modern cars do not break down if properly serviced) and having accidents (highly unlikely on a low speed drive around your town to see the lights).

MissCruellaDeVil · 12/12/2021 20:34

You shouldn't really but I would probably do it in your situation. The only issue is if you was to have a crash and then risk exposing ambulance and hospital staff to the virus.

100problems · 12/12/2021 20:35

The chances of needing to get out are fractional. Just do it.

Modern cars absolutely do break down, I've had a brand new car break down a few miles down the road straight off the forecourt.
pourmeanotherglass · 12/12/2021 20:40

I would. I wouldnt ask mumsnet though i'd just do it.

fallfallfall · 12/12/2021 20:44

Of course do it. It’s common sense that this activity is of minuscule risk to anyone.
It’s stupid rules that suggest otherwise that leads people to not believe a word of what the politicians say.
I hope I live long enough to read what historians will have to say about the ridiculousness of the global fiasco.

FindingMeno · 12/12/2021 20:45

Ask yourself " what would Boris/ Hancock/ Cummings do?"

gloriousgolden · 12/12/2021 20:51

People on these boards literally have no common sense.

Of course you should go, it's fine. During my "isolation" I still had to drive to do my horses and walk my dog three times a day - the rules on isolation have been designed by the same twats who were having secret chrimbo parties last December. Live your life!

Coronachristmas21 · 12/12/2021 21:07

@gloriousgolden I was wondering about dog walking too. We only have a small dog that can live without a walk for a few days as we have a decent sized garden. Dp's isolation is nearly over as mine just starts so she'll be fine for a day or two! Would be hard with a perhaps larger dog and small garden!

Completely understand why you are considering it. But - Personally I wouldn’t .. just because with my luck I’d get caught and be fined 5k …!!! (Very unlikely I know!)

CorsicaDreaming · 12/12/2021 21:16

@Allsorts1

Of course it’s fine - you’re not coming into contact with anyone are you. You’re effectively in a giant hazmat suit (the car)

Agree with this (and it made me laugh)

rhowton · 12/12/2021 21:23

100% be ok!

cherrypie66 · 12/12/2021 21:26

Do it and you know what go out for a walk aswell

CorsicaDreaming · 12/12/2021 21:29

@Coronachristmas21

It's hard to explain where I live, I know accidents can happen anywhere but there's never been a single thing here - I don't think I've seen the police here once in 10 years. It's all one way so you don't pass traffic coming the other way. There is barely any traffic because there's no through traffic, it's not somewhere people would drive through without living here or visiting! If that makes any sense. I know there's still a risk. I'm not saying it's right. I just feel totally crap about the whole thing! 😪

Really do not feel crap about the whole thing. I think what you're planning is on the balance of risk and benefit perfectly acceptable.

For my DS who would just sit on his iPad / laptop all day and chat to his mates online, I'd probably not do it because he can be (although I don't let him do it) completely entertained by his iPad all day.

But if I was trying to support your two children with their specific needs then this would seem okay given all you say. And in the grand scheme the risk is tiny if you're driving on very safe roads in a small loop one way. Just like the other person said your car is effectively a giant hazmat suit!

And you are still going to need to drive to PCR test anyway. It does need a bit of balance - I would ignore the very few who are saying "no" and go with the majority on here who are saying in your circumstances then it is an understandable (and tiny) risk.

PieMistee · 12/12/2021 21:35

It's very low risk.

Tee20x · 12/12/2021 21:36

Just go. Who are you going to encounter on your way to the car? Probably no one. 100% no one if you have a garage or drive. Who are you spreading the virus to within the confines of your car - absolutely no one.

chillydownwiththefiregang · 12/12/2021 21:45

Personally I think no, just wait til you're all out of isolation. If everybody thought like this what would be the point? Yes it's frustrating but it just needs to be done. If you were contacted by T&T and not actually positive I would say go for it, but three out of four actually positive.

We wanted to take our DC to the illuminations when I was positive but decided against it and went the following week
