Driving around looking at lights with covid positive.

Do you think it's okay? I know isolation means isolation. 3 out of 4 of us are positive, Dp is nearing the end of his isolation, me and Ds just started . Just Dd to go. Likely she will get it given circumstances.

Anyway, Dd has sen and fascinated by Christmas lights and desperate to see some. Ds is autistic and climbing the walls bored with isolating.

So do you think it would be okay if we drive around our housing estate looking at lights?

We live in a sleepy village in the middle of nowhere in a rather large but quiet housing development. Would involve no main roads or through roads whatsoever. Just around the estate which the roads are mainly all a one way system.

Would it be really bad to do so for 10 minutes?

The likelihood of an accident is next to zero and I've lived here for 10 years and there's never been any form of road traffic collision.

Embracing myself to be told how bad it would be though!

A bored autistic child in isolation is so hard!

I would, we've been driving to the test centre, only 1 put of 4 has Covid and the positive one has had to come as he's only 6.

Yafilthyanimal · 12/12/2021 17:49

It is not OK.

puppeteer · 12/12/2021 17:49

@Yafilthyanimal

It is not OK.
Good grief.
Kiirim · 12/12/2021 17:50

I have a very bored and depressed autistic child. As long as you're in the car windows closed I don't see the issue

I don't think anyone would appreciate the way life is with an autistic child unless they have that experience

Iggly · 12/12/2021 17:50

Can you wait until DP is done isolating?

KilmordenCastle · 12/12/2021 17:50

Of course it's fine.

Sealsandseagulls · 12/12/2021 17:50

It’s fine

brogued · 12/12/2021 17:51

I would do it and I wouldn't judge anyone else for doing it.

Imissmoominmama · 12/12/2021 17:51

You aren’t risking anyone. Go for it.

squee123 · 12/12/2021 17:52

Crack on OP. I'm normally judgy about people driving about when they have covid, but in the circumstances you describe the risk seems incredibly low and I imagine a bit of respite would do you all the world of good Flowers

Allsorts1 · 12/12/2021 17:52

Of course it’s fine - you’re not coming into contact with anyone are you. You’re effectively in a giant hazmat suit (the car)

Coronachristmas21 · 12/12/2021 17:52

@Roadhouse111

I would, we've been driving to the test centre, only 1 put of 4 has Covid and the positive one has had to come as he's only 6.
I know the feeling. Nearest Test centre is 10-15 miles so been to and from all bloody week. Even with postal tests we need to drive 5 miles to priority box as none here!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 12/12/2021 17:53

Do it. No risk in that at all.

SweetsAndChocolates · 12/12/2021 17:54

Op I would do it, it'a not like you'll be out of the car socialising with others.

SagittariusDwarf · 12/12/2021 17:54

Yes it's fine to do that

Weegiewtf · 12/12/2021 17:55

As long as you can 100% guarantee no accidents or wee bumps where you have to swap details…

Technically? It’s not allowed and you shouldn’t be doing it… but I’m guessing you’re probably going to do it anyway… so why bother asking?

Lavendersquare · 12/12/2021 17:55

I can't believe people on here think driving for pleasure to see Christmas lights is ok when you have covid. It's called isolation for a reason - you have to isolate in your home, regardless of being bored or needing cheering up.

If you were unlucky and had an accident, even a minor bump, you'd have to get out and exchange details with the other driver, which in your case would probably spread covid as well. You are only allowed to drive to a test centre for a booked PCR test nothing else.

crosbystillsandmash · 12/12/2021 17:56

@Yafilthyanimal

It is not OK.
Do you know what's really not ok? Your comment!

Get.A.Grip!!!

SivvyPlath · 12/12/2021 17:57

Do it.

And ignore the handwringers on here who will probably call you selfish soon.

Twinstudy · 12/12/2021 17:57

Someone will probably be along to ask what will happen if the car breaks down or you have a crash. But you've got to weigh up that (teeny tiny) risk Vs the reward.

Do it. Enjoy the lights :)

gogohm · 12/12/2021 17:58

Technically it's not allowed so I would be very careful who you even tell. Would I do it? Probably though I would wait a week because by then at least one of you should be clear

Underhisi · 12/12/2021 18:00

If ds ever tests positive we will be doing daily drives to avoid ww3 breaking out in the house and everyone getting hurt.

ScrumptiousBears · 12/12/2021 18:00

The people you could be risking is having an accident and the emergency services attending. But everyone else thinks that's ok to go see some christmas light.

ImInStealthMode · 12/12/2021 18:01

Do it OP. You're not putting anyone at risk and everyone's mental health is just as important as your physical health.

Where I live positive cases are allowed to go out for fresh air everyday so long as they avoid people as much as possible and obviously don't go inside anywhere. How some of the pearl clutchers in these replies would cope with that I don't know.

Coronachristmas21 · 12/12/2021 18:02

I don't mean tonight but was considering it in a few days when Dp has finished isolating.I'm unsure yet! I know it's not allowed but two dc with sen stuck in this time of year is hard and I'm not saying that for sympathy!

I just feel so sad. They were looking forward to seeing the lights. If Dd tests positive in the next days she won't be out of isolation until after Christmas and I find most people take them down after Boxing Day here. She adores all the lights 😢

I'm just an anxious wreck thinking their Christmas is ruined! 😪
