This will be for close contact with all covid cases. Under 5 exempt. Getting a swab in ds's nose and result in time for school transport is going to be interesting.

@loobylou44 you can order a box a day, if there’s more than one adult in a house you can make your own orders.

They might change that if this requirement is for all close contacts.

squee123 · 12/12/2021 15:31

I hope it is all cases. My friend was in contact 8 days ago with someone who tested positive the next day. Today she's been contacted again to say it is Omicron and that she needs to self isolate for the next two days. Of course she's been merrily going about her business for the last 8 days as allowed by the rules so could have spread it to whoever in that time.

That's really good to know. I'll order some more tomorrow then.

@Porfre

And where are people supposed to get all these LFT from?
Have you never done a LFT? You collect them free of charge from your pharmacy.

How old is your son @Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet? My kids do the nose once themselves, it merely tickles, much better than the throat ones.

JanglyBeads · 12/12/2021 15:35

You can order a max of one box per day per person!

It’ll soon be irrelevant whether it’s for omicron or all positives, because omicron will have taken over.

Don’t know where schools will stand if people refuse to do them (I work in a school).

Sunflowersinthewind · 12/12/2021 15:41

@loobylou44 thanks, I read it wrong first time. Glad I put in an order for more lfts this morning!

WarriorN · 12/12/2021 15:42

@Sleepyblueocean

I can test ds but poking it up his nose when he is barely awake first thing in the morning before 7.40 am sen transport, may not be possible. He is on his own so I may have to insist they wait until he is ready or accept an evening test.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do exempt pupils with additional needs or as you say accept evening tests.

I can't see many of the children I teach being able to do this.

squee123 · 12/12/2021 17:14

Some countries have spit tests. I wish they would offer them for those with SEN as they might be easier for some

I think it's the right thing for long term management of covid, but also think that the messaging needs to be really strong on this. Not just 'do it if you like'. I liked Nicola Sturgeon's thing - 'Do a Flow Before You Go'. The antis need to be shut down quickly in press conferences and in all government messaging. Dickheads gonna dickhead, but it needs to be OK to challenge them on it, all the time.

I also however think that the timing probably isn't right considering what's about to happen in January. But there you go.

When I had covid, I was a close household contact and had a negative PCR on day 2 of being informed (day 4 after contact). My partner was also a close contact of the same person, he was positive. We knew it was probably coming. I had to keep going to work as a teacher, so was LFTing morning and evening. I had a negative LFT at 11pm, then a positive one at 6am the next day. I'd been in school the previous day, albeit in a mask all day. No one in my class caught it from me. They all caught it 3 weeks later from a child contact in the class, including my TA. They worked perfectly for me in limiting my ability to transmit it.

Dd has been doing spit tests for her secondary school. They’re obviously less invasive but she has to muster up loads of saliva! To fill up to the line so not that easy!
squee123 · 12/12/2021 20:50

@User2638483 I know they're also tricky, but it would be good to have different options as some would find them easier as they're less physically invasive
