This will be for close contact with all covid cases. Under 5 exempt. Getting a swab in ds's nose and result in time for school transport is going to be interesting.

Are you sure it’s all covid cases? I through it was omicron only.

Where is this information from?

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 12/12/2021 14:31

Its on the BBC but the article doesn't really make it clear if its just for Omicron or all cases?

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2021 14:33

It would be good if it was all cases although I’m not sure about compliance.

I heard someone on the radio a day or two ago talking about it just in relation to omicron but that could have been incorrect or it might have changed.

Sleepyblueocean · 12/12/2021 14:33

gov.uk website and being reported by bbc. I've double checked and it is all covid cases from Tuesday. It says advisory at the moment so not sure how much it is law but I imagine schools will insist on it.

minipie · 12/12/2021 14:33

I think this is for all covid cases - Omicron or not. Which means things will get less onerous for vaccinated close contacts of Omicron cases (LFTs instead of 10 day isolation) but more onerous for vaccinated close contacts of non Omicron cases.

scandikate · 12/12/2021 14:34

It come up on my breaking news app that it's all cases not just omicron. Anecdotally I've heard you can get an accurate test without pushing it up their nose too far although I know some children don't like it at all. My ds (5) is obsessed as sees it as some sort of science experiment!

minipie · 12/12/2021 14:34

Our school has already been insisting that siblings of covid cases take a daily LFT before coming to school. Which is fair enough.

Kitkatchunkyplease · 12/12/2021 14:35

It's all cases, because omicron you stay at home don't you.

NarcissistsEyebrows · 12/12/2021 14:36

My DD tested positive yesterday and we decided we'd all do lfts daily, they're free so I can't see why not?

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 12/12/2021 14:43

So if there is a case in your child's class, your child will have to LFT daily? My DS is going to love that....Hmm

Sleepyblueocean · 12/12/2021 14:45

I can test ds but poking it up his nose when he is barely awake first thing in the morning before 7.40 am sen transport, may not be possible. He is on his own so I may have to insist they wait until he is ready or accept an evening test.

OP posts:
minipie · 12/12/2021 14:48

I would have thought a test every evening is just as good Sleepy

User2638483 · 12/12/2021 14:55

With my kids (6 & 10) they’re much better doing the swab themselves.
A staff member at a pcr test centre told me it’s not so important it goes really far up but more that you/they give it a good twiddle so you get good contact with the inside of your nostril.

Sleepyblueocean · 12/12/2021 15:03

I think if I gave a swab to ds he would try to eat it.

FrenchToasty · 12/12/2021 15:20

So teachers and school staff have to test every day then. They're going to need to send more test kits to schools.

Watapalava · 12/12/2021 15:22

It’s been advice for ages for Norma covid so nothing new really

It’s advisory so most will continue to ignore it

School are not allowed to insist on tests and cannot refuse attendance if asymptomatic - straight from government

Porfre · 12/12/2021 15:23

And where are people supposed to get all these LFT from?

insancerre · 12/12/2021 15:24

I’m in a nursery and we have been told to test daily from tomorrow
Instead of twice weekly

minipie · 12/12/2021 15:24

Porfre you can collect them for free from many local pharmacies, go on the gov website and you can get a “collect code”.

insancerre · 12/12/2021 15:25

Or you can get them delivered to your house for free

Cornettoninja · 12/12/2021 15:27

@insancerre

Or you can get them delivered to your house for free
This is the easiest ime. Really quick delivery, usually the next day.
Sunflowersinthewind · 12/12/2021 15:28

I think it is still just Omicron, not all cases, if its the article on BBC news. Can someone link please

loobylou44 · 12/12/2021 15:29

You can order the tests etc but that only gives you 7 tests at a time. If there's more than 1 of you in the house that is a close contact then the box doesn't last long at all.
Can you collect/order more than 1 box a week?

insancerre · 12/12/2021 15:30

You can order them for each person

FrenchToasty · 12/12/2021 15:30

It's all cases, not just omicron
