Worked next to someone with omricon- any chance of escaping?!

Ok so my work colleague who I sit about a ruler length away from has just been diagnosed with the new variant. Last week as things were busy we did both share pens- use each other’s phones (I know I know!) she’s just been diagnosed. Right now I’m LFT clear and both is us are vaccinated - have I got any chance of avoiding ?!

How long ago were you in contact? They normally ask about contacts in the 48 hours before symptoms

Guidancillary · 12/12/2021 08:57

I wouldn't worry it's non fatal.no one has been hospitalised. But take a test for your peace of mind and follow guidelines

Imknackeredzzz · 12/12/2021 08:57

Yeah we worked together until Thursday when her first symptoms happened and she went off. It’s now Sunday- I’m clear so far... although LFT only not PCR- lending PCr test

@Guidancillary yeah I’m not worried about the seriousness but more the hassle of it all!

@Guidancillary it’s in the news this morning there are omicron cases in hospital.

chiefcha · 12/12/2021 09:24

Isn't the incubation period for omicron supposed to be very short?

MrsFin · 12/12/2021 09:26

It's airborne. You won't catch it from sharing a pen or a phone.

dementedpixie · 12/12/2021 09:27

They were sat right next to each other too though

Crikey, you sound excited.

Imknackeredzzz · 12/12/2021 09:28

@MrsFin oh really, I mean she did cough a few times but nothing too bad. But we shared a bowl of sweets and stuff so I assumed that would a high risk - maybe not!

OP posts:
SnugKnights · 12/12/2021 09:31

How vaccinated are you? The news said yesterday I think, that 2 doses didn’t protect you from catching it, but 3 gives 75% protection from being symptomatic.

Imknackeredzzz · 12/12/2021 09:35

@SnugKnights 2 vaccinations - like my friend who has now got it

Notonthestairs · 12/12/2021 09:35

I think in your shoes I'd go for a PCR to rule it out.

Fingers crossed that you are fine.

MindfulBear · 12/12/2021 09:44

Go for a PCR test. You should be classified as a close contact

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 12/12/2021 09:58

The sharing things is barely relevant. It’s airborne. The fact you were sitting so close together while she was getting the symptoms means that you have definitely been exposed (a close contact). Your vaccines may give you some protection against infection, and will almost certainly protect you from severe illness. You may even be one of those fortunate folk who has some kind of innate immunity.

You will (should) be asked to do a PCR by T&T and if in England (not sure about the devolved nations) self isolate for 10 days as a close contact.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 12/12/2021 10:14

@gherdl not at all, just letting posters know things have changed.
No idea how you would ascertain I’m excited from a factual sentence Hmm

Imknackeredzzz · 12/12/2021 10:18

Ok thanks everyone - I have booked PCR for later today. However would I be showing signs yet for a test? Oh it’s so confusing

Awakened22 · 12/12/2021 10:29

Are they in because of Omicron or patients that were already in hospital have tested positive for the new variant through routine testing?

PicsInRed · 12/12/2021 10:54
@Guidancillary it’s in the news this morning there are omicron cases in hospital.
The question is "did Omicron put them in hospital, or were they asymptomatic, in hospital for other reasons, and tested positive as part of routine testing whilst there".

walksen · 12/12/2021 10:59

"no one has been hospitalised"

Wrong. Please stop spreading misinformation, even if it is comforting to you.

Noeuf · 12/12/2021 10:59

Well really your colleague should identify you as a close contact and T&T should tell you to self isolate. Whether many people are actually doing this as intended is doubtful going my social media. You know the rules are to self isolate, you know you are a close contact - you really know what you should be doing in terms of isolating. I’d say it’s very possible you will have caught it.

I know, but the OP seemed to be worried about sharing pens and phones.

MrsFin · 12/12/2021 17:07

Sitting next to each other is high risk. Sharing sweets is not.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 12/12/2021 17:08

It's airborne. So sitting next to her with no ventilation puts you at high risk, breathing in the same air.
Sharing sweets unless she's actually coughed and sneezed over them, not so high risk
