If you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and have had the booster, did it cause you any problems? TIA

Hi, I've had x2 AZ jabs and then at the end of October I had a 3rd primary jab which was Pfizer. I got a cracking bruise for some reason at the injection site, but was otherwise fine. Maybe a little tired the following day, but tbh that could be due to other things (I have other autoimmune issues too).

I'll be pushing for a booster (i.e. 4th jab) as well as the end of Jan, which will probably be either Pfizer or Moderna.

LoannaJumley · 11/12/2021 16:49

I've had 2 AZ and 1 Pfizer so far and I've been fine.

Summerofcontent · 11/12/2021 17:31

Yes. I've had 3 Pfizer and have been fine

Ooh, I got a massive bruise with my booster. Also 2AZ then a P. Is this a thing? I don't have Hashimoto's

Many thanks for the replies. Interested to hear experiences from anyone else with Hashimoto's.

@WicketWoo, there was also a wee drop of blood so I think the vaccinator just hit a small blood vessel, hence the bruising. Which is fine by me as it's supposed to go into muscle not just fat.

I do bruise easily.

fuzzwuss · 11/12/2021 19:37

I have Hashimoto's and have had the booster (3 x Biontech / Pfizer). Didn't notice anything.

SpindlesAdventWhirl · 11/12/2021 19:43

Just to confirm, OP, I do have Hashis, as well as other autoimmune stuff.

Are you worried about it all? I have opted for the vaccinations, weighing up all the data. No side-effects to speak of.

Best of luck. Flowers

Thank you. It's my sister who has Hashimoto's, and I'm trying to help her find some more information, as she is finding it very stressful making a decision whether to get the booster or not. Her first two jabs were AZ. She had some nasty side effects that lasted a while with that which has made her quite wary of any more Covid jabs. She has recently spoken with someone on medication for thyroid problems whose thyroid apparently got completely messed up following the Pfizer jab, so that has given her a lot of reservations about having the booster. I appreciate anyone's experiences are "anecdata", but that's all we've got at the moment.

I had 2 Pfizer doses originally and will be having my booster shortly, no problems at all.

Boosterquery · 11/12/2021 20:45

Thanks honeyfox.

I've got hashimotos but also other conditions. I had the booster about a month ago and have struggled since with a lot of nausea and an all over rash-pityriasis rosea (obviously could be coincidence very difficult to totally know!)
However I've also had covid and I'd take this any day of the week.

whysorude · 11/12/2021 20:54

Hi OP,
I had the booster and no side effects apart from feeling a little under the weather the next day. First shot was much worse than second and the booster.

WarriorN · 11/12/2021 20:55

I had long lingering side effects after my first AZ. Feeling fluey and dizzy initially then from day 4 headaches and extreme fatigue for two weeks and then fatigue for another 3.

Second was better but still bad for a few days.

Booster was unbelievably fine! Had it lunch time yesterday. Sore arm, v slightly achey this morning. An hour of feeling a little cold sweaty this afternoon. Right as rain now.

Thyroid levels have been fine throughout I think though; I had them tested not long after one. I dont know if i have full
Blown fluctuating hashis though. I think my thyroid burnt out in my 20s.

WarriorN · 11/12/2021 20:57

an all over rash-pityriasis rosea

My toddler and I had this last Xmas. It's apparently v common at this time of year.

squee123 · 11/12/2021 20:59

I have Hashimotos. First two jabs were AZ and both times I felt horribly hungover the next day despite not having drunk and not right for q week or so after. My booster was Pfizer and I had a mildy sore arm the next day and that was it.

YetAnotherWalk · 11/12/2021 21:07

I have Hashis and had 2 Pfizers due to age. First was sore arm like flu jab and very tired, 2nd was worse, but nothing concerning and recovered in a few days.

Yeah that's the thing hard to know quite often what's a side effect and what's just random!
Malibuismysecrethome · 11/12/2021 21:13

I have had two AZ vaccines and a Pfizer booster. Was unwell every single time. Seemed to affect my sinuses and then tracked down my throat and chest. Severe headaches as well. Arm ached after first vaccine but I overdid it massively so now I rest up after vaccination.

Theunamedcat · 11/12/2021 21:17

I have graves I had some nasty side effects and it shoved my levels up they finally dropped and now I'm due my blood test and booster im getting the blood test first

Its happened with a few thyroid people but it does settle down apart from my ears they are still whistling

Boosterquery · 11/12/2021 21:28

Thank you everyone. That's all very helpful, including the survey posted by SparklingLime. (I found the way the survey results were presented quite confusing, but the comments were interesting.) Will carry on checking this thread, so any more responses appreciated!

There is more discussion on the general Thyroid UK forum, OP, not just that survey. healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk

SparklingLime · 11/12/2021 21:40

And you can search for booster: healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk/search/posts

Boosterquery · 11/12/2021 22:14

Thanks @SparklingLime, that's great.
