They weren't taking everyone's details everything they went for a jab. You fill all of your details out online when you book, so why do they keep asking the same details each time I go? Why don't they just keep them on record?

I have my booster coming up and really hope they don't ask me for a third time. Apart from the medical questions right before the jab, asking who my emergency contact is and what my address is, just seems like time wasting.

Isn't it just to make sure they match the right person with the correct records?

Chillichopsushi · 10/12/2021 09:56

For name and date of birth, yes. But all the rest, they seem to be typing it all out each time?

OhRexy · 10/12/2021 09:56

Christ, people really will moan about every tiny thing won't they!

ancientgran · 10/12/2021 09:57

I've had my booster, I think they only asked name and dob, maybe addresss, there weren't lots of questions.

Chillichopsushi · 10/12/2021 09:58

I'm not moaning but repeatedly taking 5 minutes worth of details from everyone in a huge queue is time wasting in my opinion.

Does it depend on the centre? I had vaccines 1 & 2 done at a pharmacy where there was a woman with a clipboard and just ticked me off

alexbury · 10/12/2021 10:00

I think providing you can give them your NHS number they can just type that in and then cross reference with you all the other details to check it really is you - so it is fairly quick. If you haven't got your NHS number maybe they do need to type it all in again?

kittykarate · 10/12/2021 10:00

I didn't have any arduous questioning it was name, DOB, address, have you got any allergies? Just ticked off on her tablet and then sent to pharmacist, who just confirmed my name.

I guess it depends on if you're a walk in client (no data pre-filled in the forms) or whether the place you're visiting has slick processes.

The information collection part can be slow if you have a more complex medical history.

Chillichopsushi · 10/12/2021 10:00

@lebkuchenforxmas I don't know, I can only comment on the large vaccination centre I went to previously. One woman with a laptop taking everyone's full details for a second time when there was a huge queue round the car park.

Just making sure you are the right person?
I don't remember them typing though, just checking details on the screen.
When my dc 13 had the vaccine, the check up was even more thorough, that he had to go through 3 check point before actually getting the shot.
And I know it's a bit ott, but better safe than sorry?

MintyCedric · 10/12/2021 10:01

I haven't had anything like that. Just ticked off on a list, quick check by the person administering the vaccine of what I've had before and that I'm consenting and done. Second jab I was through and in the post-jab waiting area in about 90 seconds!

What would help is if they did the vax in sensible locations. I live near Brighton and admittedly we did eventually get sensible options but at one point the only options for my 82yo blue-badge holder mum were Dorking, Havant or the Isle of Wight!

Mine was at a vaccination centre, likewise. It was very efficient.

There would obviously need to be a different procedure for anywhere taking walk-ins.

Nevertime · 10/12/2021 10:04

When I went for the booster (at the same centre I'd had the previous two) they really had speeded the whole thing up, to the extent that it was line 'em up, bish bash bosh Grin

Chillichopsushi · 10/12/2021 10:05

@Nevertime oh good Grin I really hope that's the case.

LimeTreeGrove · 10/12/2021 10:05

Where I went they were doing one jab after the next, so verifying you were the right person didn't seem to be holding things up

NMC2022 · 10/12/2021 10:05

Mine had a link to fill in details beforehand. Booster took about 3 mins if that

DaisyNGO · 10/12/2021 10:05

I didn't have this
I don't think they asked for ID but I showed them my driving licence (long forrin name) and they seemed pleased. Then no questions. I might be different because I'm under regular care so they would have seen that too?

No waiting except after the jab.

Cookerhood · 10/12/2021 10:08

The computer screen has to be completed each time you have a vaccination, but how it is done will depend on the vaccination site. Where I work people are screened & consented by a health professional in the queue and then I have to find their records on the computer & complete them. We have to check we have the correct person, the dates/types of previous jab etc & tick a load of boxes about medical questions & consent. The batch & expiry date of the vaccine have to be entered as well as which arm & the time. All of this is for the safety of the patient but it really only takes a few minutes. There is no connection between the booking system & the vaccine record system.

SalsaLove · 10/12/2021 10:08

I just showed my information on the NHS app, but in any queue there are always people who require more time and attention than others. The Boots in my city is full of people who don’t know where to find the Calpol so the woman at the till has to provide a personal escort.

Change123today · 10/12/2021 10:08

We had a few questions just checking I was who I said I was and double checking that I wasn’t on any medication etc I did take a little longer as I have a complex medical history and the doctor on site had to ‘sign me off’ but even that took less than 5 mins.

Yep!
NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 10/12/2021 10:25

I was ticked off the list quickly when I arrived for my booked appointment. That was the only thing that happened quickly; probably because they were admitting walk-ins to the same queue I had to wait 50 minutes in a shuffling queue - a painful experience as I have problems walking at the moment. As did several others I spotted trying to lean on the barrier supports whenever they could.

Add on the time-wasting aspects and I don’t think I’ll stick to my appointment time again, just randomly turn up when it’s quiet.

Mood not enhanced by finding that the check-in nurse was the OW from many years ago.

nordica · 10/12/2021 10:26

To be fair things like emergency contacts do change. I don't have any family in this country so I usually give a friend's details but obviously if one friend happened to be ill or was on holiday, I would choose a different one than I did a few months ago.

And the rest of the details are obviously for checking you are who you say you are - you wouldn't want to have someone else's jabs recorded on your file or vice versa!

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 10/12/2021 10:34

There is a woman at my GP surgery with my same name and a similar D.O.B.
The only reason I know this is because I went for an appointment, and they had got our records mixed- only caught because the GP referenced a medical condition I don't have- and then asked me "Is your date of birth 1.1.1980?" Me: "No, it's 1.1.1981"
Mistakes happen and some people have quite similar details. It's really not a big deal to be sure who you are injecting.

halcyondays · 10/12/2021 10:52

I’ve never been asked for an emergency contact when going for a jab.
