The NHS would get more vaccinations done if...

They weren't taking everyone's details everything they went for a jab. You fill all of your details out online when you book, so why do they keep asking the same details each time I go? Why don't they just keep them on record?

I have my booster coming up and really hope they don't ask me for a third time. Apart from the medical questions right before the jab, asking who my emergency contact is and what my address is, just seems like time wasting.

I have volunteered in more than half a dozen different vaccination centres over the past couple of years. They all have different processes.

Sometimes it is more efficient overall to have a process that isn't hugely efficient but has less chance of something going significantly wrong and taking a lot of work to fix. Each centre has different resources - some have a computer for each vaccinator, others just have one or two for the whole centre. The fact that there's a queue around the car park is irrelevant. If there wasn't a form to fill in the wait would be just as long waiting for the vaccinators to be ready for you. The paperwork isn't slowing anything down.

@halcyondays

I’ve never been asked for an emergency contact when going for a jab.
There is a box to tick on the data entry screen. I was told early on to tick "no" but I'm sure some people ask & complete it.

The emergency contact was one of the few things I was asked. I actually think that's sensible - to ensure they have the appropriate details for this specific occasion given that there a small possibility of an adverse reaction.

The other things such as allergies, anticoagulant meds etc were dealt with efficiently by having a laminated sheet of about ten yes/no questions to read as you walked along the long corridor between the entrance and the medical checkin. So they could skip a lot for people who were all no.

Apart from the medical questions right before the jab, asking who my emergency contact is and what my address is, just seems like time wasting.

I wasn’t asked these at either of my appointments. They just did name and DoB to check my appointment, and then the medical questions.
I don’t know if it’s relevant, but it was done at a vaccine clinic being run by my GP surgery.

It's never felt that bad at hours - as you moved along to next person next bit of info - next queue.

However with DD2 -12 - we had all that and were given a usual consent form but I we weren't allowed to fill out.

We had to queue to wait for one of two nurse to go through whole thing with us who but then proceeded to read the form to us - and I still had to sign. They were taking ages doing this -with bog standard form - which we still had to take to vaccinator who also did some basic checks.

So it acted like this huge bottle next and the vaccinators behind were clearly getting a bit fed up and were very quick to claim people - and a massive queue formed waiting for this bit.

Couple of weeks earlier with DS and we were allowed to do form oursleves when in the queue so they didn't have the huge delays.

I did wonder why - and what had happned to put this extra check time delaying check.

Iggly · 10/12/2021 12:26

They’d get more jabbed if they had more provision! Centres have been closed near us ffs

inferiorCatSlave · 10/12/2021 12:30

vaccinators behind were clearly getting a bit fed up and were very quick to claim people - by this I mean there were about 15 all together with only at most 4 having someone to actually vacinate and possible a few more do other admin tasks - they were jabbing quicker than they were going through the forms - so were sat clearly waiting.

trevthecat · 10/12/2021 12:39

If a mistake was made due to not asking these questions you would be more annoyed

Glitterblue · 10/12/2021 14:54

I had my booster this afternoon. I'd given all my details when I booked, I had to give my name, DOB and address to someone on arrival and answer questions about whether I work in health care, social care etc, then again the same question from the lady who took me into the cubicle, then the pharmacist who came to do the vaccine asked me if I had any allergies, if I was on any different medication to when I had the first vaccine and whether I'm on any blood thinners. We had the first 2 done at the GP surgery and we were in and out in 5 minutes, we were just ticked off on a clipboard. Today we had appointments for 1pm in Boots and the whole process took 45 minutes.

Angel2702 · 10/12/2021 15:07

I’ve never been asked anything other than name don and nhs number, for the booster the date of last vaccination. Whilst in the queue was asked the screening questions about travel and COVID symptoms but that’s it.

oviraptor21 · 10/12/2021 15:09

I just had name date of birth and address. Nothing written down, just checking it matched with their on-screen details.

Kendodd · 10/12/2021 15:15

They have to make sure they have the correct person in front of them.
I volunteer at a vaccination hub and we've been told of people who don't want the vaccine paying vulnerable people to pretend to be them and have the vaccine to get the NHS pass.

Also, agree with pp, some people (the op) will moan about anything.
