Any one else lose their sense of space wearing a mask?

Is that what I mean? I can't "feel" my position in the same way as usual, I'm more likely to bump into things and I can't judge distance.

I was on the tube at the weekend, dutifully wearing my mask at all times, but the escalators were really scary, I couldn't judge where I was putting my feet!

Yes, me too - that's exactly what happens. Makes navigating crowds really stressful.

NecklessMumster · 07/12/2021 09:05

Yes, a bit. I feel less in control. Plus it seems to push my specs up a bit so I can't see properly and then the lenses fog up more in this weather

MLMshouldbeillegal · 07/12/2021 09:07

Very much so. It's disorientating.

It worries me a LOT that you see so many people driving with them on. I know it's compulsory for taxi drivers in Scotland at least, but it seems so dangerous.

Hoppinggreen · 07/12/2021 09:09

I find all my senses are impaired in masks.
I can’t see as my glasses steam up, I can’t hear people when they speak to me and I feel generally disoriented
But I’m not medically exempt so I wear one

LizziesTwin · 07/12/2021 09:10

I’m a volunteer driver have to wear a mask when I have service users in the car with me so wear a mask. I don’t like wearing a mask on tube escalators but I’m getting used to it, I feel they do affect my peripheral vision.

middleager · 07/12/2021 09:38

Yes. I also wear varifocals and between these the steam and my sense of balance/space, it's not easy.

Then I see half the chumps in my home city don't even wear masks. Compliance is about 50% in shops here, so while I'm practically falling over and recently had Covid anyway, they're just doung what they want anyway....

SusannaQueen · 07/12/2021 09:43

Yes, I thought this was just me! I think it's because I can't see my feet, masks with the clip on nose clips help a bit as they keep it more out of my line of vision. But I do feel really clumsy.

Greenhillfaraway · 07/12/2021 09:48

My special awareness just goes to pieces when I’m wearing a mask. It’s quite disorientating. I still wear a mask when I need to though.

thewhatsit · 07/12/2021 09:51

Yes I hate it. I stumble a lot more, I think because I can’t look down very well.
They also make me sick wearing them while moving (public transport). I think that’s the vision thing too.

Anti-fog wipes are a game changer.

User378436 · 07/12/2021 10:14

Yes, my spatial awareness is not that good anyway as I have very poor sight in one eye but masks do make it worse,

octopusrus · 07/12/2021 10:22

Anti-fog wipes are a game changer.

Could you possibly recommend a specific brand of anti-fog wipes? I tried some cheapy ones and they didn't help at all so would like to try again!
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/12/2021 10:30

I've bought some masks from Brilliant Masks and wore one for the first time yesterday. My glasses didn't fog up at all, but the downside for me is they are quite thick and I had to leave a shop so I could take the mask off and breathe properly.

Riskyrice · 07/12/2021 20:55

Yep, I think because my glasses steam up so I have to push them up onto my head, so I can't see properly. I'm asthmatic and masks seem to set me off coughing too, and the bloody elastic sets of migraines when I wear one all day at work.

I definately think some people find wearing a mask easier than others, even of they don't particularly like it. The second i have a mask on I'm a total mess, I hate the bloody things!

Toastytoads · 07/12/2021 20:58

I have dyspraxia and I'm so clumsy In a mask. It's horrible

Icantremembermyusername · 07/12/2021 21:07

Me + mask + supermarket = shrill, disorganised shopper. I still wear it, and try to tone down the crazy that is me. My vision is foggy, I have a hearing loss. I am extremely left handed so if I end up at the wrong side of the self service tills every thing goes wrong.
I tried a supermarket delivery but the subs made it impossible!

Scarby9 · 07/12/2021 21:08

I find stairs really challenging in a mask.

Malteser71 · 07/12/2021 21:15

I have a bizarre diagnosis of positional vertigo and vestibular migraine. I can’t balance very well. If you add a mask, my senses are totally shot.

So I don’t wear one.

LilyPond2 · 07/12/2021 21:20

Yes. I also wear varifocals and between these the steam and my sense of balance/space, it's not easy.
Very much relate to this! I push my glasses slightly down my nose to stop them steaming up, but that then mean I'm looking through a slightly different part of the lens.

TinaYouFatLard · 07/12/2021 21:25

I thought it was just me that couldn’t walk down stairs in a mask. I’ve been weird on stairs since I broke my leg a couple of years ago and put it down to that!

MarysEasyCooking · 07/12/2021 21:47

Yes!

Elnetthairnet · 07/12/2021 21:52

Anti fog spray for glasses is a game changer - loads of different brands available

Taswama · 07/12/2021 21:56

Not just you.

SlashBeef · 07/12/2021 21:59

Yes! I'm so glad it's not just me.
