Omicron.

Just read this today. I had covid March 2020, have long covid. Haven’t been vaccinated yet due to resulting heart and mcas issues.
Can anyone reassure me please

I've had covid early (March 2020) and I just recovered from Omricon this week. I know I'm just one case but omicron was much milder for me. Only a tickly throat, fever and headache for about 3 days before I got the test result but by then symptoms were almost gone..covid I had a had cough for about a week and then slight chest pain after but after another week all gone.

Not trying to wind up the OP, but I thought the general consensus on COVID in general (regardless of variants) is that it will be endemic and we will all get it numerous times over the course of our lives.

OP, if you have had COVID before, it will no longer be "novel" to you, and you have low risk of getting very ill. Try not to worry.

[quote Hankunamatata]It looks like from research that omicron can evade immune response from previous infections. Some quoting 3x more likely. The severity isnt very clear yet

3x is not quite fair - that's right at the top of the confidence interval. 2.39 is the central point estimate if you don't want to use the confidence interval.

That study doesn't appear to include an estimate for the original probability of re-infection, which surely is the key variable here. If the original probability of re-infection is 1%, then the probability of re-infection is now 2.39%, whereas if the original is 10% then the new probability would be 23.9%. Unless we have that stat, "2.39 times more likely," is not very meaningful.

@Innocenta I’m not in the U.K., ok? I didn’t say whether I had a formal exemption or not, did I? Do you need to know all the information on my case? Why would that be helpful to you? This is a decision I’m making at this moment, to do with *my body and the last 21 months of illness and the impact on me and my young family. My consultant is in agreement.
I came here to ask if others knew more about Omicron and the possible higher risk of it reinfecting those who previously had covid.

Hi @Getthefireon - You certainly shouldn’t share any information you don’t feel comfortable sharing. Smile I don’t ‘need’ to know anything about you, but I am concerned that you are at least verging on spreading misinformation about the safety of the vaccines and what is really a hardline contraindication. It’s important that others with MCAS don’t stumble upon your thread and decide that it is good evidence for not being vaccinated.

Of course it’s your right to be cautious and avoid giving details while talking about your medical situation online. I sometimes do the same thing! I can understand where you’re coming from. But the vaccine is a more complex issue than if this were a thread in General Health talking only about your specific issues.

After all - being unvaccinated, you are relying even more on others being vaccinated! So you surely don’t want to inadvertently dissuade people who might be unsure?

Innocenta · 04/12/2021 10:16

@morticiamarkle How would you have preferred me to approach the issue? I'm totally open to constructive criticism! Smile

@Innocenta 👍Have a good weekend, see you.
